USC Coach Drills Team on Current Events

The USC football team had to watch some "special" game footage yesterday -- after their coach got wind of their massive brain fart of a performance on TMZ.



There's a post on a USC football website detailing yesterday's team meeting where coach Pete Carroll, "showed the video ... giving the players plenty of opportunities to laugh at each other and also offering a teachable moment. He reviewed some current events with the players, including Biden's role as the next VP and Blagojevich's scandal."

Carroll was also quoted as saying, "Our players were clearly not on their game last night at Lawry's ... We've got some things to work on."

The Trojans are scheduled to pound Penn State into oblivion during their Rose Bowl matchup on New Year's Day.

17. What will end up going down in history will be the only defeat given Penn State this season would be at the hands of the Iowa Hawkeyes. USC will look back and say "We should of take them more seriously.". Even at that, Penn State would still win. Big Ten teams are tough this year.

20. Glad to see SC fan is going for the 'all college students are stupid' approach. Why not ask your players to GET AN EDUCATION while they ball? No, you like em dumb we forgot. Dr. Sample wants to build a university in which the football can be proud.

24. I guess we can omit the "Student," from "Student Athlete" in the case of the USC football team. So much for Coach Petey giving a crap about whether the members of his team not going to the NFL have a functional understanding of current events and issues.

26. To everyone getting excited over this: it's actually pretty funny because these guys are out of touch, or just plain dumb. Obviously, they concentrate on winning football games - not current events, That being said, THEY ABSOLUTELY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHO IS JOE BIDEN. Otherwise, everyone who said that college kids don't pay attention to current events, or that they didn't pay attention when they were a student, that's respectable, but some college students (kids) are also the MOST POLITICALLY ACTIVE AND UP-TO-SPEED ON CURRENT EVENTS people in society. However, I agree that it's a waste of a potentially great opportunity / education. On the other hand, TMZ has the right angle going after these guys because they are at least local celebrities right now and probably for a few more weeks. I saw the video on TV yesterday and it was funny! Totally natural, puzzled responses from these players! I'm pretty sure there were some others besides the quarterback who knew Joe Biden's name.

Hmm, I guess I'll get back to work now.
