77. I have a hard time thinking that J.T. didn't do everything possible for his son's health. Scientology is definitely a cult. I have a middle class friend whose goofball of an EX husband donated 40 grand to them when they couldn't afford it. I realize the cult status of scientology. However, I can't see a sane dad ignoring his son's health for any cult.

80. To #51 and others who don't have all the facts, you're confusing Scientology with Christian Science. Scientologists DO accept medical treatment, and the Travoltas have sought medical treatment in the past for Jett. What Scientologists don't believe in is the use of psychotropic drugs - they think that psychiatry is a sham. I'm not a Scientologist, but I kind of see where they're coming from. Everything these days is a sickness or a syndrome, like ADD. Kids always have been and always will be hyperactive with short attention spans, but now we have to put a label on it??

As for Jett, maybe he was autistic and maybe he wasn't. If the Travoltas didn't want to medicate him, that was their choice. How do you know that any medication would have done him good? There are many different forms of autism, and different people affected by it respond to therapy and medication in different ways. And as far as the people who say the Travoltas "hid" their son because they were ashamed of him...did you ever think that they didn't want to subject him to the prying eyes of cruel, judgmental idiots like you?? Many autistic children have trouble dealing with large groups of people or unfamiliar situations, so if he even WAS autistic, perhaps HE didn't respond well in those situations, so they left him at home when they had to go to an event.

It's pathetic and sad that so many will jump to conclusions that there was some kind of foul play or fishiness going on here. I've heard people say "why didn't they check on their son before going to bed?" or "why didn't they know where he was until morning?" This kid was 16, not 6. Anyone with a teenager knows that they enjoy their privacy and they don't need to be checked in on all the time. If he was mildly autistic or just had a developmental disability, he was probably still a pretty self-sufficient child who wouldn't need someone hovering over him all the time. You all think you know exactly how things would go down if this situation happened to you, but you don't. No parent expects their child to die before them. I'm sure the Travoltas never thought it would happen to them either. But it did, and if you can't express some sympathy for them, that's fine...but there's no need to resort to cruel jokes and accusations.
