John Travolta's Son Dies

Rand Memorial Hospital in the Bahamas tells TMZ the son of John Travolta died today.

We're told 16-year-old Jett was vacationing with Travolta and wife Kelly Preston.

There have been reports that Jett was autistic, though Travolta has denied it, saying he suffers from Kawasaki Syndrome, a condition which often leads to heart disease.

UPDATE 5:15 PM ET -- Police just released more details. According to a report, Jett was last seen going into the bathroom at their private suite at the Old Bahama Bay Resort sometime yesterday. The body was discovered by the caretaker, Jeff Michael Kathrein (pictured bottom right with Travolta in 2006), at 10:00 AM today. The report says Jett suffered from seizures.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.

UPDATE 4:54 PM ET -- A police spokeswoman says Jett hit his head in a bathtub.

UPDATE: 4:40 PM ET -- Restview Memorial Mortuary and Crematorium in the Bahamas tells TMZ Jett's body would be transferred there on Monday.

UPDATE: 4:00 PM ET -- Travolta's attorney Michael Ossi says Jett suffered a seizure at his family's vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died on scene.

Robert Gidel, president of Ginn Properties (which owns the Old Bahama Bay Hotel), tells TMZ, "The Travolta family has become like family to us at Old Bahama Bay and we extend our deepest sympathies to them."

1594. I can't stand it when I see lies so let's get some things straight. From discussions with Scientologist friends they are against psychiatric drugs, BUT are not against medications for real physical conditions. Scientologists are not Christs Scientists who don't take any medications whatsoever. Scientologists do take medicines for physical ailments.

1595. Hey "fool", Don't take up for Whitney.....She is a moron. Hey John and Kelly, sorry for your loss! Jett looked like a good kid. I lost my mom 3 mos. ago, and understand the hurt. Good luck!

1596. My heart goes out to the family. It makes me sad because it is so obvious Jett had a disability and John and Kelly were in denial. John could have done so much and given so much to help other children with disabilites like his son. As a mother, it was obvious it was not Kawasaki Syndrome that killed that prescious child. My prayers are with the Travolta family!

1597. As a longtime "original" fan of John Travolta's, my heart really goes out to him. I am reminded of a time long ago - more than 30 years now, when he lost his then-fiance, Diana Hyland, to cancer. He was devastated by the loss, and it would be many more years before he would meet Kelly Preston, and she would become his first and only wife. With two children and unbelievable wealth, theirs seemed to be a fairytale life - until now.

And as far as celebrites go, I can't think of a nicer guy who truly deserves all the best in life. Like many others, I feel like I "grew up" with him, and can only imagine what he and Kelly and little Ella must be going through. I don't know much about Scientology, but I know that's what John believes in, so I hope that their faith can help the Travolta family find some measure of solace and comfort at this deeply saddening time. RIP Jett Travolta

1598. The very thought of losing my child...unimaginable. The sadness I feel for anyone who does...indescribable. I pray that faith will carry the Travolta family and all of the other families faced with this incredibly difficult and life changing trama to an understanding and accepting peace.
In prayer,

1599. How amazing that some of you claim to know the cause of death before the autopsy! I certainly hope if tragedy comes your way, you would not be judged as harshly as you judge this grieving mother and father.

I am a catholic yet I do not look down on nor do I judge one religion to be over another. I see religion as being in people's heart. Are they kind, giving, considerate, empathetic, generous with time, love, money.... do they set a good example for others....does their persona exude love for others? THAT IS RELIGION. I don't care if you call your chosen follower of faith God, Jesus, Budda, Dali Lama, Hubbard or Mickey Mouse. If there is love in your heart for yourself, family and others, that is being of good faith. John and Kelly are all of these. Both have participated in and have started many charities and are advocates for children in need.

Right now, they are not Hollywood royalty nor A-List stars, they are a grief stricken Dad and Mom who deserve privacy and the best intentions from any human being. Shame on all of you judgers and those who feel sick humor belongs in this forum.

John, Kelly and Ella Travolta, I pray for peace of mind and heart...and acceptance. I believe Jett will look after you always and his love will live on in you. Bless you all.
