R.I.P.
John Travolta's Son Dies

Rand Memorial Hospital in the Bahamas tells TMZ the son of John Travolta died today.

We're told 16-year-old Jett was vacationing with Travolta and wife Kelly Preston.

There have been reports that Jett was autistic, though Travolta has denied it, saying he suffers from Kawasaki Syndrome, a condition which often leads to heart disease.

UPDATE 5:15 PM ET -- Police just released more details. According to a report, Jett was last seen going into the bathroom at their private suite at the Old Bahama Bay Resort sometime yesterday. The body was discovered by the caretaker, Jeff Michael Kathrein (pictured bottom right with Travolta in 2006), at 10:00 AM today. The report says Jett suffered from seizures.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.

UPDATE 4:54 PM ET -- A police spokeswoman says Jett hit his head in a bathtub.

UPDATE: 4:40 PM ET -- Restview Memorial Mortuary and Crematorium in the Bahamas tells TMZ Jett's body would be transferred there on Monday.

UPDATE: 4:00 PM ET -- Travolta's attorney Michael Ossi says Jett suffered a seizure at his family's vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died on scene.

Robert Gidel, president of Ginn Properties (which owns the Old Bahama Bay Hotel), tells TMZ, "The Travolta family has become like family to us at Old Bahama Bay and we extend our deepest sympathies to them."

1608. OMG - will you people stop this now.....their were parents FIRST, scientologists SECOND. Their beliefs had NOTHING TO DO WITH JETT'S DEATH. STOP IT. No one was hiding him, he was NOT neglected - he was an average 16 boy who happened to be John Travolta's son. Enough.....let that boy Rest in Peace and let the Family grieve in peace. For all of you who have made these accusations - SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! This boy did nothing but have a wonderful life. Leave him and his family be.

1609. My deepest sympathy to the Travolta family. Parents aren't supposed to 'bury' their children. I can imagine no greater pain than the loss of one's child.
If it's any comfort, John/Kelly, you have the thoughts and prayers of MILLIONS of fans lending you their emotional support at this time.
May Jett rest in peace!

1610. The seizures don't mean that he was untreated. Some people have drug-resistant epilepsy, for instance - they are lucky if the drugs at least reduce the number of seizures. A neighbor had this, and it was considered good if he was down to just a few bad seizures per month plus some more little ones. They kept trying different drugs. Both the drugs and the seizures were killing his memory - he said he would look at the family album with pictures of vacations, for instance, and would hardly remember even half of it. Since the boy died as a result of a seizure and the injury that resulted - there is no basis for blaming the parents or their religion.

Also many kids don't like being taken out and about by their famous parents because the paparazzis are so disturbing. The little ones can at least be picked up and held while running the gauntlet, but they are still often obviously unhappy about it. If he had any brain injuries or really was autistic, he would likely be especially bothered by such things (the flashbulbs would have driven him nuts, likewise the noise). His parents were protecting him be keeping him out of the limelight. The bursts of all those flashbulbs going off from all directions could even risk triggering a seizure for some people.

1611. Who cares if they are Scientologists? THEY LOST A CHILD!!! doesnt that mean anything at all?...

To the people who are against Scientology and have been writing disgusting comments about the Travolta family, Just wait until YOU lose a loved one and somone starts making fun and riduculing them, it'll hurt just as bad...Just because they are movie stars and have their own beliefes doesnt mean you have the right to tear them down.

1612. This is so sad. But Kawasaki's disease is treatable and can only cause heart damage depending on when it is diagnosed and how quickly it is treated. I had Kawasaki's disease when I was 3, I am now 16. It took doctors quite a while to diagnose me and by the time they finally did diagnose me I was able to receive the correct treatment. I ended up with a damaged coronary artery causing me to not be incredibly physically active. If I over exert myself I can have chest pains which can lead to greater heart problems if I don't calm down. The Travolta's son, Jett, had Kawasaki's apparently and as the article stated he died from a seizure. I have no clue if these two things are related because I am no medical professional, but if he had over-exerted himself, depending on what the long-term effects were from his diagnosis of Kawasaki's, the effects could have somehow caused the seizures. That is just a theory but maybe this helps some people out there realize the effects Kawasaki's could possibly have on a person's life and it is not some silly disease that just comes and goes nicely.

1613. Check out this link to their trip to Paris: there was definitely something wrong with Jett.

John Travolta was leading him around, by the hand, like he was a 2 year old. There is also the "caretaker" shuffling behind Jett, directing him to the car. It's just creepy and sad. To think that they would leave that poor kid alone for 12 hours to die in a bathtub is criminal. The poor kid was not right in the head and they didn't look after him. Shame on them.

1616. what a loss! I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child. May the Travolta's find Peace and comfort during this time. Remember it is not for us to question how parent's might raise they're children. People are very afraid of what they don't know....what we do know is that a young man, a big brother, a son is dead. A little respect here.

1618. Think about this: These poor parents are suffering and have lost their beloved child. Anyone cruel enough to blame the parents should feel shame for adding to unbearable grief. You don't have a right to assume anything because you know nothing. I'm amazed at the lack of empathy here.
For all of you who have said mean and judgemental things, I hope if this horror ever happens to you, you'll be treated with more kindness than you have dealt out. You won't have deserved it, but if you find yourself in their shoes you'll finally know how awful you have been in your judgements, jokes, sarcasm, assumptions and general ignorance.
May God forgive you.

1619. Scientology has nothing to do with this. It is a tragic accident. My condolences to the Travolta family. I hope their beliefs comfort them in this painful time of their lives. For all of you that blame scientolgy or don't "agree " with their beliefs-shame on you for being such idiots. Whatever the Travoltas believe is their right and should be respected. Believing in something is better than not believing at all. Who is anyone to judge. Let this family mourn the loss of their child. It amazes me that such stupid people are out there.
