John Travolta's Son Dies

Rand Memorial Hospital in the Bahamas tells TMZ the son of John Travolta died today.

We're told 16-year-old Jett was vacationing with Travolta and wife Kelly Preston.

There have been reports that Jett was autistic, though Travolta has denied it, saying he suffers from Kawasaki Syndrome, a condition which often leads to heart disease.

UPDATE 5:15 PM ET -- Police just released more details. According to a report, Jett was last seen going into the bathroom at their private suite at the Old Bahama Bay Resort sometime yesterday. The body was discovered by the caretaker, Jeff Michael Kathrein (pictured bottom right with Travolta in 2006), at 10:00 AM today. The report says Jett suffered from seizures.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.

UPDATE 4:54 PM ET -- A police spokeswoman says Jett hit his head in a bathtub.

UPDATE: 4:40 PM ET -- Restview Memorial Mortuary and Crematorium in the Bahamas tells TMZ Jett's body would be transferred there on Monday.

UPDATE: 4:00 PM ET -- Travolta's attorney Michael Ossi says Jett suffered a seizure at his family's vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died on scene.

Robert Gidel, president of Ginn Properties (which owns the Old Bahama Bay Hotel), tells TMZ, "The Travolta family has become like family to us at Old Bahama Bay and we extend our deepest sympathies to them."

1636. For the love of God, get the facts before commenting! And don't comment if it's mean spirited.
#1. Their son whose NAME was Jett, didn't have a jet ski accident, he had an apparent seizure.
#2. His parents didn't hide him away (as evidenced by all the pictures of the child with his parents in public).
#3. His parents weren't opposed to medical treatment. He was being treated for seizures.
#4. His parents don't owe any of us any information whether or not he was autistic. It's not anyone's business.
#5. Their religious beliefs are no one's business and have nothing to do with the tragedy.
#6. Some things are just none of our business. Have some respect and compassion.
#7 Send your love and hold your mean spirited judgements. Remember, carma.

1644. 1544- that is their choice, it sucks, but it works the same way as parents who shun their gay child or even worse send to places that force them to be ungay because the magical priest and fairy tale book of Jesus says being gay is supposedly a sin. these "camps" have been proven to cause terrible mental scars. I'm sure the Travolta family loved Jett but merely didn't believe in using medication, which people do for many mental and chemical disorders (depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder). it is sad that they chose not to use medication, but i heard that he slipped and hit his head and THEN had the seizure.

1647. I am a bereaved Mom and my heart goes out to the Travolta family. I hope, somehow, they actually read this and go to DailyStrength.org and to the bereaved parents section. They can remain anonymous. There is no pain as intense as that of losing a child. Ever! I am wishing them peace on their journey.

1648. It's so hard to loose a child, probably the most heart breaking experence a parent will ever have to live through. Hopefully you will lean on each other. May your son be at peace, in the arms of God. My heart felt sympathies to the entire family.

1650. I predict that the controversy over jet ski safety will be a HUGE issue now. I just pray the jet ski lobby is not too powerful to prevent Congress from passing strict regulations. We need to do whatever is necessary to prevent more tragic jet ski accidents.
