John Travolta's Son Dies

Rand Memorial Hospital in the Bahamas tells TMZ the son of John Travolta died today.

We're told 16-year-old Jett was vacationing with Travolta and wife Kelly Preston.

There have been reports that Jett was autistic, though Travolta has denied it, saying he suffers from Kawasaki Syndrome, a condition which often leads to heart disease.

UPDATE 5:15 PM ET -- Police just released more details. According to a report, Jett was last seen going into the bathroom at their private suite at the Old Bahama Bay Resort sometime yesterday. The body was discovered by the caretaker, Jeff Michael Kathrein (pictured bottom right with Travolta in 2006), at 10:00 AM today. The report says Jett suffered from seizures.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.

UPDATE 4:54 PM ET -- A police spokeswoman says Jett hit his head in a bathtub.

UPDATE: 4:40 PM ET -- Restview Memorial Mortuary and Crematorium in the Bahamas tells TMZ Jett's body would be transferred there on Monday.

UPDATE: 4:00 PM ET -- Travolta's attorney Michael Ossi says Jett suffered a seizure at his family's vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died on scene.

Robert Gidel, president of Ginn Properties (which owns the Old Bahama Bay Hotel), tells TMZ, "The Travolta family has become like family to us at Old Bahama Bay and we extend our deepest sympathies to them."

1651. if i find out this is a Scientology thing where they did not get their son the proper meds to combat Kawasaki
disease, i will have absolutely no sympathy for them !! I hope and I pray that this is not the situation !!! Look it up on the internet and you will find that there are meds to fight it.....not always can death be prevented, but in most cases It Can...John and Kelly seem to be a loving family.but if they put their son in jeapordy because of this stupid Scientology thing, .than they deserve a life time of grief and as far as i am concerned, Murder of their Son..i can't imagine any parent denying their child of proper meds, That is Insane !!! From what i see, john and Kelly are very level headed people....loving people...who took pride and joy in their children....yet, knowing that they are with this ridiculous Scientology thing..kind of makes me wonder where they are really at..!!!! .they lost a beautiful 16 year old........my heart aches for that child...my heart aches for the parents....my heart breaks for all the people who knew this wonderful family. and children.....within a few days or less or more, they will be burying their only son...picking out a casket or maybe having hin cremated.... 6 feet under....leaving them with only one daughter...and that's it.....I hate to blame this Scientology thing on Jett's death, but I do have an extreme suspician on that Cult......I really do !!!! My advise, good or bad, to Tom Cruise and anybody else involved with this so called holly rolly Scientology better get out while the getting out is good..... before another innocent life is taken taken..it will happen again...I can garantee you that !!!!! screw the Scientokogy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1652. #1556,
No, it's YOU who should be ashamed of yourself. You're so unbelievably judgemental and ignorant.
You don't know, and you have no business knowing anything about these people.
We don't have any evidence that their son hadn't been treated properly by a doctor.
There is NO medical report yet so you don't know anything about the cause of death, yet you have decided what the truth is.
What is wrong with you? If you just keep quite and don't make idiotic assumptions, you won't go through life proving how truly stupid you are. Sorry, someone had to tell you.

1654. 1555 and 1556:
Sorry 1556, my earlier criticism was meant for 1555, who blamed the parents.
1556, your comments were very kind.

1656. I'm so sorry to hear this. I lost my 16 year old daughter three years ago from an illness. Losing your child is the most heartbreaking, painful experience one can go through. You never get over it. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May God bless you and your family during your grief journey.

1659. 1570. I didn't even know that Kawasaki made jet skis.
wouldn't he need a license for that anyway?

I'm sure the investigation will reveal whether he was licensed. I'm surprised we haven't heard yet. I know I will not be taking up jet skis any time soon.

1660. My prayers are with the family ! My question is, if he went into the restroom yesterday, and was found today...where was John and Kelly...thats a long bathroom break !!

1661. TO #1522, 1530, 1560 and others so obviously part of the Scientology PR spin..........IF YOU COULD READ MY LIPS I would say it louder!!! I feel sorry for two parents who have lost a child.........Any parents! Any child!

What I don't feel sorry for are followers of any belief or cult where illness is blamed either on "Suppressive Persons" being in the person's life -- (usually family and loved ones who are then labelled as "SP's" and from whom the ill person MUST "disconnect" from having ANY contact with -- supposedly so they will RECOVER from their ailment! (YOU do some research about Scientology if you don't know what a "Suppressive Person" as termed by the group is.

AND BEFORE you tell ME to keep my comments to myself, LET ME ASSURE YOU I KNOW OF WHAT I SPEAK! MY CHILD has a seizure disorder, my ex-spouse ( AS a Scientologist) dead-set against any form of medical anticonvulsant therapy for our child. HAD I not had the guts to free us from the grapples of this group and their rigidly enforced 'alternate' therapies like "auditing" , purification, monumental vitamin regimes and intensely expensive courses, I KNOW my child would be deceased also.

IF Jett had ongoing medical issues, such as seizures (whatever their origin & whether they were intractable or not ---) being a Good Parent includes being open to ALL avenues of aid for your child ---NOT blindly following the dictates of an outside group.

There are NO do-overs especially when it comes to your children's lives or the lives of your other loved ones. And contrary to the belief that when the founder of Scientology, L.Ron Hubbard, died, he casually "dropped his body" and went on to other worlds..................he is dead, sadly the same as poor Jett.

Having lived through what I have and having said what I did based on my firsthand experience --I still FEEL GREAT PITY FOR THE TRAVOLTAS and sadness at the soul searching that they will undoubtedly go through on the passing of their son.

1662. Loosing a child has to be the hardest thing in the world to deal with. Jett was a handsome young man and is being well taken care of. Our prayers are with john Kelly and Ella.

1664. nd NO ... it is not comforting to think that, yea, I lost my son too, in my arms of a long disease and I still want him here with me. But it unnerved me when idiots would tell me this, again, read your bibles, heaven is a terrific place ... it's here on earth that sucks and it's here where we want and need our loved ones. Just pray for them people, that's really all they need fom us total strangers ... and they will never learn from you, or me. Not unless your in their "circle" of friends and family, not bloggers...

1665. If Travolta has indeed identified the problem as Kawasaki - I wonder if it is because the rest of the symptoms appeared after that illness? It's not unusual for autistic symptoms to be triggered by some illness or event (which is probably why some parents have noted a correlation with vaccinations, which definitely shock the system). Kawasaki symptoms seem to be triggered by chemical exposure, which in turn could have triggered the autistic symptoms if Jett had an underlying susceptibility. Calling it Kawasaki also might have an advantage when dealing with his co-religionists, if they classify autism as a "mental" disorder (everything is really physical...) but accept Kawasaki as a physical disorder.

If reports that Jett was allowed to eat junk food and play video games much of the time are true - that might just be because they wanted to keep him happy. It also might be in line with Scientology thinking about children knowing what they need (I think that's it) and so letting them go their own way is appropriate. But many non-Sci parents would very likely do the same in such a case, especially if they were worried that a child's lifespan might be short. Video games aren't such a bad way to spend your time, anyway - lots of skills involved, and they aren't a passive activity like tv watching.

Anyway - none of this suggests abuse or neglect. Every family is different in its approach.
