John Travolta's Son Dies

Rand Memorial Hospital in the Bahamas tells TMZ the son of John Travolta died today.

We're told 16-year-old Jett was vacationing with Travolta and wife Kelly Preston.

There have been reports that Jett was autistic, though Travolta has denied it, saying he suffers from Kawasaki Syndrome, a condition which often leads to heart disease.

UPDATE 5:15 PM ET -- Police just released more details. According to a report, Jett was last seen going into the bathroom at their private suite at the Old Bahama Bay Resort sometime yesterday. The body was discovered by the caretaker, Jeff Michael Kathrein (pictured bottom right with Travolta in 2006), at 10:00 AM today. The report says Jett suffered from seizures.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.

UPDATE 4:54 PM ET -- A police spokeswoman says Jett hit his head in a bathtub.

UPDATE: 4:40 PM ET -- Restview Memorial Mortuary and Crematorium in the Bahamas tells TMZ Jett's body would be transferred there on Monday.

UPDATE: 4:00 PM ET -- Travolta's attorney Michael Ossi says Jett suffered a seizure at his family's vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died on scene.

Robert Gidel, president of Ginn Properties (which owns the Old Bahama Bay Hotel), tells TMZ, "The Travolta family has become like family to us at Old Bahama Bay and we extend our deepest sympathies to them."

1667. Some people are plain rude or simply have no braincells.
First of all the Godpraying folks here.. shut up please! The Travoltas don't believe in your trinity.

Anyway, this is just terrible as it would be for any parent regarding their social status. They've lost their child unexpectedly. And no strength in the world will heal that loss.

As for people commenting on how they treated their son, you folks most me kidding! Can we come to your house and see how you watch your kids? I'm sure the John and Kelly as parents wanted to protect their vulnerable son from the media. Kudoos for that. Look at this little clip and see the concern of John (his facial expression) as the camera point at Jett.

They for sure won't read TMZ, but I can only wish them my best for the time to come.

1669. God Bless the Travolta/Preston Family...but if any of this is true...if they knew there was something wrong with their child and refused he/she help...that is straight up neglect...does anybody else agree that this is a wake-up call to other Scientologist families? You have to heed your childrens' warning signs...PLEASE don't let Jett die in vain! Peace, J.

1672. I think it's absolutely devastating that some of these comments were allowed to post. The Travolta family deserves no crap from anyone over this tragedy ... You people with your assumptions, blaming religion, assuming whether or not they provided treatment, suggesting they hid their child ... ought to be rounded up and put together forever and far away from the rest of those that only wish them peace and hope that they may be able to pick up and carry on for the sake of their other child and themselves.
The only thing of which I know is certain, is those that dare to speak without care or thought of others, especially in the wake of such a tragic personal loss, have nothing but the same coming back upon them... one day, you just wait. And don't bother to ask, "Why me?" The rest of us will know why and keep our mouths shut about "your" misfortunate retribution.
What you elect to practice, will in time, consume you; it's your own damn choice. You choose, but choose ever so wisely.

1674. My heart goes out to John & Kelly on their loss....anytime a parent loses a child it is very devasting!

But - having read up more about Jett and how it was pretty obvious his son had autism (not Kawasaki Syndrome that they were disguising him with) and they did nothing to acknowledge his true condition and get him the proper treatment! This angers the hell out of me. I have autistic twins and they are thriving and learning so much because of early intervention (they were diagnosed @ age 3). They still have a lot of hurdles to overcome @ age 5, but in my gut, I know they will grow to be productive and independent adults!

If the Travolta's were covering up Jett's autism, because of their Scientology beliefs, I am so disappointed that they would put that dumb cults beliefs over their childs welfare!! Autism is so common (1 out of 150 children have it!), that their "celebrity" could do something to help find a cure and help others with the exact same problem!

I have so much more I would like to say to the Travolta's and again, although I am saddened by their loss, I feel bad that Jett had to suffer through seizures that they probably could have gotten treatment for and therapies that could have enhanced his quality of life.......All because of Scientology.....what a load of crap!

Sorry for the disrespect....like I said, I love John Travolta alot, but this really disappoints me!

1675. My condolences to the family. My only concern is that the last time that Jett was seen was on Thursday night, and the "caretaker" found him the next day at 10 AM. As a mother, I check on my children all throughout the night. I would have definitely known something was wrong with my child prior to 10 AM. Where were the parents? If Jett had a history of seizures, in my opinion, he should have been monitored more closely/frequently. I am so sorry for their loss!

1676. For many years they have been rumors that John Travolta had a kid with Autism. How do they live a young adult that is sick going to the bathroom alone. Why did it take until next day to check on him. If you see the video when he is arriving somewhere with the family, you can see how John Travolta is holding the little girl hands and his son's hand. If a father is holding his son hands so protective, is because you can see in the video that the son does not look like a healthy young man. A 16 years old would walk alone without holding the hand of the dad.

So I just feel so bad that for their lost. But if I have a son so sick I would have a nurse next to him.

1678. While some of the comments are cutesy and trying to make light of the situation, please remember that a loss has been suffered. While we may not agree with the Travoltas and their choices in religious matters, a human life has left the world. This child was important to them, and we don't know that he was never in public. The paparazzi can't chase around celebrities all the time, and Jett may have preferred to be reclusive. I hope the humor here is meant to add levity, and not make fun of someone with a disability. Give them time to grieve. I've said a prayer for them.

1679. They never wanted him around anyway. They were always taking the pretty photogenic daughter to premieres and all that and Travolta talks about his hopes for her following suit with an acting career. I guess now that the son isn't around to drag them down they can get back to the biz. I hate Travolta and his cowering wife.
