John Travolta's Son Dies

Rand Memorial Hospital in the Bahamas tells TMZ the son of John Travolta died today.

We're told 16-year-old Jett was vacationing with Travolta and wife Kelly Preston.

There have been reports that Jett was autistic, though Travolta has denied it, saying he suffers from Kawasaki Syndrome, a condition which often leads to heart disease.

UPDATE 5:15 PM ET -- Police just released more details. According to a report, Jett was last seen going into the bathroom at their private suite at the Old Bahama Bay Resort sometime yesterday. The body was discovered by the caretaker, Jeff Michael Kathrein (pictured bottom right with Travolta in 2006), at 10:00 AM today. The report says Jett suffered from seizures.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.

UPDATE 4:54 PM ET -- A police spokeswoman says Jett hit his head in a bathtub.

UPDATE: 4:40 PM ET -- Restview Memorial Mortuary and Crematorium in the Bahamas tells TMZ Jett's body would be transferred there on Monday.

UPDATE: 4:00 PM ET -- Travolta's attorney Michael Ossi says Jett suffered a seizure at his family's vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died on scene.

Robert Gidel, president of Ginn Properties (which owns the Old Bahama Bay Hotel), tells TMZ, "The Travolta family has become like family to us at Old Bahama Bay and we extend our deepest sympathies to them."

1996. Anyone noted that Kelly Preston´´s website was down end of last week, but got out shining this week? Must have been really busy with website during the weekend mourning time or was it the scientologits? Maybe her carieer will take up now...

1997. I was a bit harsh on my comments on Travolta family, just hate all money driven cults which attack when you are down.
Haven´t lost a child, just felt the teribble fear as my son had to do the obligatory military service, and the thought that my only son would be sent to fight in e.g. Irak to defend oil or whatever. Fortunately my country only has peace corps, I accept defending our own borders. My experience of autismn is from my long term relationship with a wonderful person, who has an autistic son. The son was always with us in restaurants etc. The daily routines were important, and to take him out from his own world which were love of tv, netgames, and some compulsary movements. He is intelligent in his own way, he was diagnosized as midly autistic. It is hard for the parents, many things that normal children catch easily, they have to learn from the beginning. Difficult is when the age comes, for example in a amusement park, when 5 year s old can do what he cannot do, and he knows it. I do not believe in drugs, best is to try to get the child out even to walk for a while with a dog, the pets seem to bring a lot of comport. He is at a special school daily to learn and enforce the weak points as the balance (simple gym) , drawing, music etc. I do not know what Travolta´s did, all is always better said than done.... I once read that what ever the parents do for their children, at the end they feel that they did something wrong.

1998. How can autism and his son's death be related? And he denied treatment for autism? What treatment???
How can you judge a man at a time like this? You should all be ashamed of yourselves. John Travolta chose Scientology, that is his right. And no, I am not religious in any way but I don't think people should pass judgement. His 16 year old son died, that must be heartbreaking. Imagine yourself in him and his wife's shoes, would you think it was OK for people to make jokes? I think not.

2004. So so sad - i've been doing alot of thinking - I don't think he was ashamed of Jet - I think he was protecting him - our world is a harsh and very mean to Special needs people - Lets say he was Austic - all the people in his face trying to take pictures would have upset him - I think they loved Jet and I know they are devestated - I don't agree with their Beliefs but
Jet is gone and they are hurting.....

2006. To those of you who criticize the Travoltas for not giving their son medication, and suggest they should be charged with some crime: medical error, which includes adverse effects from drugs, is the third leading cause of death in the United States. The medical establishment as a whole should be charged with a crime for not taking enough care and caution in treating their patients, and letting doctors act like cowboys with no supervision. You may have a better chance at survival if you reject medical treatment--there is no guarantee that the treatment will help you, and it might kill you.

2008. I got caught up in the gossip last year about Jett's autism, and was one of those who could not believe the Travolta's would not acknowledge Jett's disability. The fact that they were in denial of his autism, or the fact that their faith would not let them believe or allow them to believe his neorlogical disability was beyond me. I thought this was a family who could really bring so much good by acknowledging it. I became an unfan of John Travolta's after reading everything I could on Jett.
With that being said, My heart breaks for this family. Regardless, they loved Jett no matter what. No one should loose a child and the grief they must be experiencing no parent should have to bear. I have come to realize that whatever disability Jett had it didn't matter. Some people are more equipped in talking about it and some are not. I don't think they loved Jett any less because of it. I am a mother of a son who has Down Syndrome, and I am one that wants to get the correct information told about my son and his disability, I however prefer that he is a person first and his down syndrome is secondary. I just don't think the Travolta's dwelled on his disablity, and by doing so they preferred not to discuss it. And my heart still breaks for them. Rest in Peace Jett.

2009. John Travolta looks impeccably dressed but his son looks as though he has a soiled sweatshirt on. I love the photos of Jett and his mom, but the photos of him and John seem so staged. I don't understand the adoration of John, especially Hollywood. There is something too controlling about him, a bit scary. The cremation was so fast and it seems like things have to go as Travolta planned. I wonder about his control issues with his son. Why didn't he allow him to be photographed outside of his home? The youngest daughter has been seen more. Was he embarrassed to the point of hiding him?

2010. My prayers are with you and your family. I hope this poem I wrote may bring some comfort to you.
MY GOD ---- MY CHILD
My child…..
The most precious gift from God that was given to me on loan.
My eyes filled with happiness as I gave thanks to our God on the day he loaned me his most precious gift.
The amazement of unconditional love that filled my heart was given by my child.
The desire God gave me to support the dreams of my child.
The trillion times I prayed for God’s teaching giving wisdom to my precious child.
The times I thanked God for the strength I needed going through the rough times with my child.
Tears my child and I shared with God as we went through troubled and sad times.
The countless times laughter was heard throughout the house sharing lighted hearted moments with my child.
Love, support, wisdom, strength, laughter, tears, happiness, sadness and contentment are feelings rolled into one from the day my child was born to the last.
The contentment my child gave is filled with happiness to last my life time on earth.
The hardest of all was the sadness within my heart when God decided he needed my child in heaven for a greater task.
The joy of knowing my child will always be special and did fulfill the greatest of love throughout my body is cherished for ever with beautiful memories.
Thank you God for your unconditional gift!
But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God . Luke 18:16
