Police Investigate Jett Travolta's Death

UPDATE: 11:50 ET. We've learned John Travolta has made arrangements with a funeral home in the Bahamas to ship Jett's body on Tuesday, presumably to Florida. The autopsy will not be performed until Monday morning.

Sources at the Freeport Grand Bahama Police Department tell TMZ the Serious Crimes Section is conducting an investigation into the death of Jett Travolta, the 16-year-old son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, but cops don't believe any crime was involved.

A detective tells us the investigation is being run out of the Central Detective Unit, Serious Crimes Section, because of the high profile nature of the death.

We're told it is still an active investigation and the time line may be important in determining cause of death ... specifically, Jett was last seen going to the bathroom on January 1st, yet his body was not discovered until 10 AM the next day.

It is unclear if Jett fell and then had a seizure -- or if a seizure caused him to fall.

46. I do not believe for one second that the Travoltas did anything intentional to hurt their son. Their only mistake was getting involved with Scientology!! They were not trying to hide their son...but keep him away from the cruel media spotlight. I have two autistic sons and I dont love them any less. In fact, i love them more..and my protective instincts are even stronger because I know they are vulnerable to the mean comments from the outside world. I know they loved their son and my heart truly goes out to them during this tragic time. If anyone should be held accountable its those power hungry scientologists that will stop at nothing to get their way and brainwash all their members! Down with Scientology!

47. Why in the world are you commenters so hateful???????? There is a special place in hell for people like you. John and Kelly are wonderful parents. Jett was far from a burden for them. They love him and would not have traded him for anything. My prayers go up for this sweet family.

49. Where is Tommy Boy and Katie's public statement? And Kirstie Alley's? And all the other COS Hollyweird's condolences?

I'm surprised that Tommy Boy hasn't had his mug in front of the camera.

51. Firstly--poster #4 you are incredibly callous. Having a child who is developmentally delayed or severely retarded does NOT mean it is such a burden on the family that death is something to rejoice about. Saying someone is better off dead because they suffer from ANY ailment is such a gross generalization that your comments simply illustrate your ignorance and lack of human dignity.

Secondly--Scientology does NOT advocate for people with serious diseases/injuries to abstain from seeking and following medical advice. This would include taking anti-seizure medications, etc. They do not recognize psychiatric illness as being something that can be treated/cured with psychiatry. They even consider it harmful to do so. I strongly disagree with that position, but Scientology is not the only organization that holds these beliefs. Mormon's, as an example, do not permit blood transfusions even in life and death situations. Bear in mind that there are degrees of belief. If you examine the Christian Bible, you will find many things that people are supposed to and not supposed to do. Hard core fundamentalists may practice the beliefs to the letter, while mainstream Christians do not. No matter what your perception of the Travolta's you may have, you don't know if Jett was on anti-seizure medications or not.

Lastly--the death of a loved one is always heartbreaking. When I was in nursing school my instructor told my class a story about a woman who gave birth to a stillborn child. The mother had taken illicit drugs early in her pregnancy but quit when she discovered she was pregnant. The doctor who delivered her baby said "Congratulations, you killed your baby". My instructor then proceeded to ask for a show of hands from the people in my class who would have said the same thing. In a class of about 40 students, 35 hands went up. I was so disgusted I actually said "Ya'll are F-ing crazy". Except I used the whole F word lol. The point I'm trying to make is this--imagine your parent or spouse is obese or has high cholesterol or something of that nature. If they died of a heart attack or stroke, would it be appropriate to announce to the parent, child, or spouse "Congratulations--you helped your parent/child/spouse commit suicide by serving them McDonald's and allowing them to have a Twinkie".

Peace to anyone who has experienced the pain of losing a loved one. For those who want to relish in their pain--be careful of what you say. You never know what may happen to you or your family. Not everyone is blessed with perfect health and can avoid any type of lethal injury. How would you want people to react to your loss?

This is sad, but I think if I owned a private jet, as they do, I'd bring the body back myself. It just sounds so sad that they all flew there as a family on John's plane and now poor Jett's body is being "shipped" back. With their resources I'd bring it back with the family plane.

53. Hey #46 (Gran): See you in hell then cause you're judging us.

54. Bren, "Wonderful" parents don't let their special needs children go unnoticed all afternoon and all night and let caretakers check in on their children after all that time. I'm sure they are sick and heartbroken and beyond devasated, but I don't know how you can call them "wonderful" parents.

55. I'm glad there is an investigation. I'd want to know, where the caretaker was at the time of death. I'd want to know the times of everything death, sighting at the bathroom, everything. I hope this truly was an accident, but how much can they really trust this 'caretaker'?

56. Never Heard of Kawasaki syndrome .My heart goes out to the Travolta family.I never even knew John's son had Down's syndrome.

57. The "caretaker" has also been known in the past as John Travolta's "personal trainer."

58. Stop all the nonsensical and suspicious conservative mind crap!!!! These are two loving, devoted, and nurturing parents who couldn't harm a flea. Everyone, including these wonderful actors who have been successful in protecting their children from the harsh limelight of Hollywood these past 16 years, will soon know the cause of death. One can only imagine the grief they not only bear right now but will the rest of their lives.

The Bahamas always hold investigations when there is a death of a foreigner in their country. Had there been any arrests for foul play (during one of their lengthy investigations) it would have taken place with the death of Anna-Nicole's son as that story warranted suspicion at the time and continues to justify suspicion even though time has marched on!

59. My thoughts and prayers to the Travolta family. My question is...what take them so long to find out that he's not been around for quiet some time since he's supposed to be mentally challenged?

60. What a bunch of miserable people making silly comments about this accidental and tragic death. This one is the dumbest of them all:

If the kidd was severely retarded his death was a blessing in disguise.
Taking care of such child is a lifeong, terrible burden.
