Police Investigate Jett Travolta's Death

UPDATE: 11:50 ET. We've learned John Travolta has made arrangements with a funeral home in the Bahamas to ship Jett's body on Tuesday, presumably to Florida. The autopsy will not be performed until Monday morning.

Sources at the Freeport Grand Bahama Police Department tell TMZ the Serious Crimes Section is conducting an investigation into the death of Jett Travolta, the 16-year-old son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, but cops don't believe any crime was involved.

A detective tells us the investigation is being run out of the Central Detective Unit, Serious Crimes Section, because of the high profile nature of the death.

We're told it is still an active investigation and the time line may be important in determining cause of death ... specifically, Jett was last seen going to the bathroom on January 1st, yet his body was not discovered until 10 AM the next day.

It is unclear if Jett fell and then had a seizure -- or if a seizure caused him to fall.

61. Ugh, I'm purging myself of my own guilt for being critical of John and Kelly for not noticing their son was fatally injured for all of those hours. Perhaps the Travolta's hired caretakers that they thought were excellent and they trusted to look after their son. Maybe the caretaker, like so many other lousy employees, just slacked. I don't know. I'm going to quit making assumptions. It's just tragic.

62. A child who is prone to seizures has a former personal trainer as a caretaker? From the looks of John's girth he wasn't much of a personal trainer and his not at least looking in on Jett for so long really doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in this fellow.

63. It is odd that no one checked on him. Doesn't matter what his age was he had a medical condition(s) so more care should have been made to see that he was ok. Simple. How many people would not have checked on thier kid that was known to have seizures and possibly other medical issues?

As for the Kawasaki disease they said that they treated him with a Ron L Hubbard detox from one of his books so at least to appearences it doesn't sound like they went with traditional care.

Dr's have said that it's not likely that he could have still at 16 had any problems like this from it. It's rare for any kid over 5 to have issues from that disease. So it's either he had another medical condition or the Kawasaki's was never properly treated and Jett's illness is an example of what not treating the disease can do.

They are the ones that exposed him to that in the first place by thier own admission on Larry King about the carpet cleaning they always did. Kawasaki is not always about the cleaning agents either a nasty bacteria can exist in wet carpet to that can cause the illness too. I was warned about it when I had both my kids. My Mom wouldn't allow me to come over with the kids for at least 2 days when she had the carpets cleaned in her house.

Once you are sick with that a joke book's detox system isn't going to clean that out. Total blood chelation may have helped a little but once in the cells and organs.....and chelation is really best done by a Dr. and takes several treatments. The herbal stuff won't work as well once really sick.

Being a Scientologists is a dangerous religion. I mean how can anyone follow a "religion" that was created on a bet.??? It's creation was a friggin joke. Serioulsy, a joke.

People should really do thier homework before they get involved in this cult crap. Talk about a bunch of lemmings.

The children are always the ones that suffer for the parents ignorance. They are the ones that are gonna have to live with it. The "what ifs" and "maybes" will be with them forever. Hopefully they learned something from this and will take better care with their daughter.

I'm sure they don't appreciate all the questions people are throwing around when thier son has died but all this was so preventable. I think that's why so many people have these questions. People just can't understand the lack of commom sense and ingorance of the obvious.

It's sad from beginning to end.

64. I don't care what religion/cult/spiritual orginazation you belong to, the loss of a child, be it sudden or due to long term illness is a tragic event under any and all circumstances. My thoughts are with the family. May their son rest in peace and the family find comfort in their memories.

65. Jett was born Autistic, and as the parents were scientologists, any neurological disorder is not believed in, ie. remember Cruise on post partum depression etc. So, they made up the Kawasakai story, and did nothing to help their child with early intervention etc. And, if they have any intelligence, would know that would have helped him! And the medication would have probably saved his life. As a parent of an autistic child, I despise them for not going public with it and helping research into Autism and the cause. Travoltas brother Joey has made wonderful films about Autism, interesting???

66. I just find it so disgusting that people on here continually bashing the Travolta's parenting. Nobody knows what exactly was wrong with Jett, and nobody knows how they delt with it. Were any of you bashers fly's on the wall at their home? NO! Your judging without knowing. The Travolta's have sufferd a horrible loss. Right now all they need are our prayers. Oh, and nobody knows the circumstances of Jett's death either. He could have gone into the bathroom at eleven PM on Thrusday night and fallen. His parents could have been asleep! The caretaker saw him go in the bathroom! He did not look so disabled that he could not use the bathroom on his own. Let's not judge and let ego get in the way! Leave the family alone to mourn the loss of ther beloved son.

67. " If the kidd was severely retarded his death was a blessing in disguise.
Taking care of such child is a lifeong, terrible burden."

I've heard people saying such horrible things as you did usually because they aborted a baby for similar reasons. And your "terrible burden" is only such if you are so self involved you'd think that.

You, and people like you suck. I wish we could kick you off the planet.

68. 'Secondly--Scientology does NOT advocate for people with serious ... blah blah"

Doesn't matter Scientology certainly didn't HELP the kid. Nor anyone else. It's a society full of insecure/mentally disturbed people and those that take advantage of them.

Scientology has a place right in hell with people like #4

69. My Mom's fiance is epileptic - he suffers seizures from scar tissue he had from 2 previous brain surgeries. He has tried all sorts of medication to control them, and can definitely minimize the amount of seizures he has, but still has several per week. A good week would be perhaps 2 episodes. Seziures can be triggered by anything - lack of sleep, stress, lighting etc. Still, his quality of life is severely diminished - he cannot drive, cannot go places alone.

I am really surprised that neither of Jett's parents or caretaker thought to check on him - regardless of his age. Even if Jett was going to bed late the night before and stopped in the bathroom on the way - wouldn't someone have checked on him? SHOULDN'T someone have? I've seen the videos and photos of him - and it's fairly obvious he was not a "normal" healthy teenage boy. The fact that he required a caretaker at 16 speaks volumes.

I feel sorry for the family - the loss of a child is not easy for anyone. And if they were irresponsible in any way (through withholding medication or lack of supervision), then I'm sure that guilt will plague them. I like the Travolta's, regardless of their affiliation with the CoS, and wish them and their daughter, Ella, the strength to get through this tragic loss.

70. This is horrendous, to think the parents had anything to do with this is vile and sick. You guys need to examine your own lives to determine where the vileness comes from and let these parents grieve without adding the guilt. I'm sure none of you have ever left your children alone for awhile with a babysitter thinking they were in good care, much less a caretaker that they had watching over this boy for years, so shut the F** up before trying to put the blame on parents who are probably beyond grief. Keep your stones to yourseslf.

71. #60-Sami: Heads up...The Travolta's don't believe in prayer so prayers don't mean jack sh*t to them.

Just simply say they have your sympathy, your condolences, you're sorry their son died but prayers are not something they want...or join the COS. Now that will really jazz them.

72. To Dawn - you can tell people to "go to hell" all you want, but this child's death was very likely the result of the gross negligence and stupidity of the Scientology cult - and these people need to be held accountable for it. A child is dead, and some of us do NOT want this crime to be swept under the carpet, like you apparently do. If this child's parents were denying him the medication and care he needed because of that damn cult then they are certainly the last people anyone should be feeling sorry for.

73. I am glad there is a police investigation also, BUT the Bahamian police are corrupt, the entire Daniel Smith inquest was a travesty of justice.

75. We all saw Tom Cruise's rant against mental heath profession. Scientology does restrict what kind of Dr's your family can see.
