Police Investigate Jett Travolta's Death

UPDATE: 11:50 ET. We've learned John Travolta has made arrangements with a funeral home in the Bahamas to ship Jett's body on Tuesday, presumably to Florida. The autopsy will not be performed until Monday morning.

Sources at the Freeport Grand Bahama Police Department tell TMZ the Serious Crimes Section is conducting an investigation into the death of Jett Travolta, the 16-year-old son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, but cops don't believe any crime was involved.

A detective tells us the investigation is being run out of the Central Detective Unit, Serious Crimes Section, because of the high profile nature of the death.

We're told it is still an active investigation and the time line may be important in determining cause of death ... specifically, Jett was last seen going to the bathroom on January 1st, yet his body was not discovered until 10 AM the next day.

It is unclear if Jett fell and then had a seizure -- or if a seizure caused him to fall.

91. Unless we want to outlaw all but one religion, is that what we should do as American's? I think we voted for freedom of religion?

92. OMG! Any "religion" that allows parents to deny needed medical care for their children to the extent that these children are dying is despicable! You think this garbage should be allowed because this cult classifies itself as a "religion"????? If the adults in this cult want to kill themselves, fine. That is their choice. The children are innocent victims who have made no such decision. THEY need to be protected. And the adults need to be held accountable.

And if anyone truly believes that scientology is a real "religion" they really need to do some research. This is a cult of power hungry nut jobs who worship space aliens.

93. If John Travolta and Kelly Preston had been getting medical treatment or special therapies for their son, there are several laws that prevent doctors and other service providers from commenting on that fact. So….how would we know? But more importantly, why is it OUR business?

And I'm sorry, I have seen my 15 year old go into the bathroom on many occasions and not waited to see her come out. She knows when to go to bed. She showers and goes to bed, and if I am watching a movie or something, I might not say goodnight to her because her bedrrom door is already closed and it really annoys her if I go in there and wake her up. Also, she sleeps till noon, and I rarely wake up at 7am and go charging into her bedroom to make sure she is in there. I would only wake her up and that would be annoying.

94. I think it's pretty clear that JT had his own son murdered because his son announced he wanted out of the Scientology cult. Vacationing in the Bahamas is the perfect place to commit murder and get away with it. Look at all the other mysterious celebrity deaths and high profile crimes that happened there and never saw criminal prosecution.

Congratulations, John. You got rid of your burden and you'll get away with it scot-free.

95. There are many "religions" that deny certain types of medical treatments....regardless they are still considered religions. I don't support them. However, we live in America, and we have Freedom of religion...if if their religion consits of believing in aliens then so be it...call it what you want. I have four kids and I would run across two miles of broken glass barefoot to save one of their lives, that's my choice.

96. Holy Cow, the kid was 16 years old. You think his mother should have followed him to the bathroom.
You know how teenagers are.
I feel sorry for his parents, they seem like such nice people.

97. No. Parents should NEVER have the right to allow their child to die in the name of some idiotic "religion". And if that is what you believe then I hope you never ever have children. And if you do, I hope those children have someone looking out for their safety.

98. For all the people commenting on how they never took him out that is wrong, He has Autisim and sadly John Travolta didn't care to realize that! Autistics don't like to go outside and talk to people that they don't know. I know all about that because I have an Autistic child that hates to go out. And also don't accuse a parent of killing their child. It is bad enough that they lost their f@#$$ing child leave them alone. And an Autistic child at that!!

Take care Travolta Family!! Your are in our prayers!

100. they should be investigating the "scientolonuts" the poor kid had for parents. they should investigate any of the "church's" involvment with his lack of treatment for his original condition of kawasaki/autism or whatever the travolatas are claiming he had before his seizure and fall. just maybe had he rec'd proper care medically throughout his short life, he my not have had any seizures.
for all you star struck numb-heads out there, child abuse/neglect is child abuse/neglect, no matter what your connections or "religion/cult" is and should be investigated thoroughly.

101. What so many of you here are failing to realize, when you say "I don't always check in with my child after he has gone to bed for the night", is that Jett is non-verbal. He is NOT capable of speech. THAT is why he has baby monitors. That is the reason for the 24/7 nannies, and the chimes when he enters the bathrooms. Jett was not a "typical" 16 year old boy. And what happened to him is a shame, and more likely than not could have been prevented. Especially if, as the first reports stated, he spent an entire night laying in the bathroom ALONE.

Since we do not have all the information at this point though, I'll withhold judgment, because losing a child has to be the most gutwreching thing in the entire world. No parent should have bury his or her child. Things just sound hinky right now.

102. Some of you people are cruel, to say the least.

My heart aches for the mother and father who lost their son and the sister who lost her big brother.

Jett is in a better place, so he's okay.

103. While my heart goes out to John Travolta and Kelly Preston for their loss I must concur with others who have mentioned the nameless, faceless parents of the tens of thousands of other children who died in the same 24 hour period who will go unaddressed, uncomforted and unheard. They are no less worthy of sympathy and they also have it, no parent should bury their child. Having nearly lost my own son the day he was born and my older daughter on numerous occasions to somagenic insulin reactions (she is a type 1 insulin dependent brittle diabetic, now tightly controlled, 3 weeks away from getting an insulin pump!) and two MRSA infections (due to her inadequate immune system, diabetics must be very careful about their immune systems) I can only begin to touch on the horror of their loss, and it does make my heart cry out for them.

I hope it is found that Jett's seizure disorder was being controlled with medication and that this was truly death by misadventure. Until a postmortem is performed there's no point speculating on anything, best to just let the family grieve in peace and have some privacy, they do also have a young daughter who doesn't need to be hearing anything untoward about either her parents OR her brother, don't you find?

105. The freedom of religion is the freedom of religious thought. The government can and does control religious actions. Hence, it is illegal to have multiple spouses, to terrorize (in the name of religion), and for parents to withhold medical treatment from their children because of the parent's religious beliefs. Courts step in and order medical help for children, including 16 year old teenagers, when it is required to save the child's life. This is the case in almost every State in the United States. Until the child is 18, the child can not be a martyr for the parents. The problem is that these high control religions (Jehovah's Witness, Scientology, and Christian Scientist) shelter the child's medical conditions and/or waylay treatment until it is too late. They also indoctrinate their children to parrot the church's viewpoint, so as to convince the judges. There is usually an element of coercion, so that others within the religion are ready to rat out the patient if the parents or child waivers in the religious "viewpoint."
