Conflict Over Travolta Death

UPDATE 1/5 -- Within hours, an autoposy will be performed and the coroner is expected to release the cause of death. Stay tuned.

There's a conflict brewing between the Bahama PD and John Travolta's camp regarding the time line of Jett Travolta's death.

People who are with Travolta are bristling at the suggestion Jett might have been left unattended for more than 10 hours, but this morning cops say they are sticking to their story. Meanwhile, we've learned Jett had suffered from grand mal seizures in the past and had taken anti-seizure medicine which the Travolta's say did not work, so the medication was stopped.

As for the time line, we're told Jett, his family and his two nannies had been boating on January 1. They returned to their townhouse at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel at around 6 PM. Jett was tired, went into his bedroom and went to sleep.

We're told nanny Jeff Kathrein watched TV in the adjoining room. The other nanny, Eli, returned to the townhouse at around 11:30 PM. Both Jeff and Eli turned in at around that time. After Jeff got up, he went into the bathroom and discovered Jett laying on the floor.

As for when Jett was last seen, cops say it was the at around 11:30 the night of January 1, when he went to the bathroom. Michael McDermott, John Travolta's lawyer and close friend, says Eli or Jeff may have gone into that bathroom during the middle of the night so the time frame would have been compressed.

McDermott also tells TMZ when Jeff and John Travolta administered CPR there may have been signs of life -- as in there may have been some respiratory function -- though that is not confirmed.

We're told Jett's disabilities included the inability to communicate well, in addition to some physical disabilities. As a result, there was a baby monitor in his room as well as a chime on the bathroom door. It's unclear if the two nannies slept through any signs of movement. The townhouse is relatively small -- around 1,000 square feet -- and the nannies and Jett were all on the bottom floor.

McDermott told us it's not unusual for Jett to sleep 12, even 16 hours a day, so Jett not being present is not unusual.

As for cause of death, the coroner will presumably determine that tomorrow.

As for John Travolta and Kelly Preston, McDermott tells us "they stopped crying long enough last night to try to write a press statement, which they haven't finished."

A number of celebrities, including Tom Cruise, have called Travolta and Preston offering condolences.

UPDATE: 12:38 ET -- Cops in the Bahamas PD tell TMZ "With lots of emotion that goes through a family in a time like this, it's understandable to come to your own ideas or terms, but we have an obligation to assure and convey with our public that the information we give is solid. The investigation is ongoing, but we stand by what we have said."

46. By the way, according to experts, Kowasaki's does not cause seizures, which Jett Travolta has suffered with. For the Travoltas to say that Kowasaki's has caused his illness seems incorrect. Epileptics need treatment. Many epileptics lead full and normal lives, thanks to the many meds. available to them.

47. How horrible; these people have suffered a terrible loss and now everyone is questioning their parenting?! It was said that Jett often slept for 11-12 hours. Why does this have to be turned into a circus? The media is putting a nasty spin on things to make some money. We all know how the media twists words around...why buy into that and condemn these people. I could care less if they worship teletubbbies...who are we to judge? The Travolta's deserve our sympathy not an attack because they are rich and can afford to have 2 nannies.

48. Rest in peace Jett...

People will always have their opinions...they want to dig deeper to make others look bad. All I know is Jett's parents loved him..how could they not? Every parent loves their child more than life! We all do our best to make the decisions for their lives and pray at the end of the day that we made the right ones. We all believe in what we want to believe in and have faith in that belief. ....who really knows if there is a God or whatever one believes in That boy was an innocent person, pure and gentle and I know he will go be where he is safe and young, and happy for eternity. Where ever that may be. It's called faith and in this world now a days...faith in anything is hard to find. . All I know is he is someones' son, brother, nephew, neighbor and friend who was there one day and gone the next. Let this family grieve as you would want to grieve.
It is not anyone's place to judge anyone. Take a step back and take a good look at yourselves first.

50. The article makes it sound like Jett was not even staying in the same house as John, Kelly and Ella. It sounds like Jett was staying in a separate little bungalow with the two mannies.
Also, has anybody noted that Jeff Kathrein just completed a scientology "drug rundown" last year? Jett's nanny had a substance abuse problem and wasn't fired? Isn't Jeff Kathrein the guy with John in the infamous kissing picture?

51. I, personally do not believe that Kelly and John gave their son anti seizure medication, ever! They may have had him detoxified and whatever else that cult does but no way would they be allowed to give him anti seizure meds. No way!

Secondly, I have a baby monitor from Sears that cost me maybe $125.00, the sound on that devise is so sensitive that I had to move the camera to the farthest cornor of my father's room...he has dementia and I use it to keep an eye on him. I can't sleep with the sound of my dad breathing, even when I turn the volume down to 1/2 it can still pick up the slightest sound. If my dad roles over in his bed I can hear it like he is next to me..so how is it that with a monitor on this young man that two nannies couldn't hear him fall and even if they weren't around when he fell, how is it that they couldn't hear "no noise" at all from someone who is obviously prone to being loud and perhaps clumsy. My guess is that these nannies were enjoying their vacation just as much as John and Kelly and that monitor was off..I can move the screen to any room I go to in order to keep an eye on my dad and listen for his needs so it is not a stationary devise..something is strange about this kids death in the fact that it was preventable if he was given the proper meds and 2ndly if the nannies were paying attention and did have a monitor the sound would have alerted them whether there was noise or especially no noise...

Kelly and john are hostages of scientology, maybe more John because he doesn't want his homosexuality to be revealed but that is no way to live John..god,. if Lindsay Lohan can come out of the closet so can you.

52. I would imagine there's more than one anti-seizure med, particularly for something as serious as Grand Mals. Who determined it "didn't work?" A doctor? Or the Travoltas, who may have given it a shot for two weeks, and taken him off it, because it was grating so much against their Scientology belief system?" Probably the second choice. A doctor would have tried something else for something so serious, not just said, "Oh well...here...just have nannies watch him." That's not how it works.

The Travoltas deny he's autistic, yet he is a 16 yr old teenager who has two male nannies, a baby monitor, a chime on the bathroom door, sleeps 12-16 hours per day? And they have an 8 yr old daughter? If they're not watching over an 8 yr old as much as they're watching over a 16 yr old, that poor child didn't have "Kawasaki syndrome." He had autism. And the Travoltas will STILL...even after his death...refuse to admit it, because admitting it somehow means (to them) that they had some "flaw" that they created this, and it goes against their belief system. Well, ok, now it looks like their belief system was a part of what ultimately killed him.

God bless Jett Travolta. What good were two male nannies nearby, a baby monitor, a chime, and family...if no one heard the child die on that same floor of a 1000 sq. foot house? Those parents could have all the PEOPLE and THINGS they wanted around him. But what they didn't have was medicine and medical help that they chose to use.

53. Just for everyone's information, I have been on every anti-epileptic drug for the prevention of severe migraine headaches.
One worked but for 3 years but I was like a zombie on it and wished I were dead. It influenced bad thoughts, impatience and a host of other feelings that were not me. That one stopped working and I found another with no side effects that did work but only for awhile. The others did not work at all. About 10-12 tried in all. So it is actually possible that they did not work or else the side effects were too horrible to live with.

I also saw on a KTLA interview out of Los Angeles last night when they interviewed a neighbor of John's that this genteman was well aware that Jett had autism. I would suspect that so did all of John's friends and associates but he just did not want to go public with the label. I don't blame him. People can be cruel and it could have affected his image which equals his revenue, which equals his ability to pay for 24 hour care at home for Jett as opposed to an institution.

I'll bet most of you don't know that Regis Philbin has a son. He does and he's mentally disabled also but Regis never talks about him for the same reasons. And Regis is as Catholic as you can get.

54. I find it hard to believe that 2 male nannies with a nursery monitor did not hear this kid crash to the floor. If both turned in at the same time, who was providing the 24/7 care this child needed? Something is not right.

55. Teenagers sleep alot, whether they are disable or not!!!!!! Leave the parents alone....If you have never lost a child you do not know what they are going through...They at least have someone else to talk to the press for them. Other parents who have lost children similar to this situation don't have that luxarcy, so don't berate them for it. My prayers are with them at this time and for the next coming years...... God Bless Ms. Rici

56. I can't believe the comments I'm reading! Who cares about the families religious affiliation...they have lost their son. Has all compassion left this world? I'm a mother who has buried a daughter, the pain never leaves you. Stop judging and start praying for some type of peace for these two parents. They will spend the rest of their lives questioning everything they did, or didn't do, in the last hours of their sons life. They don't need strangers adding to the guilt.

57. I can't believe that some of you people actually seem GLAD that this tragic thing has happened. They LOST their son. Whom they loved immensely. Can you not just be sad for them? What if it was your child? Would you want people to say you're going to burn in hell because of it?

And what does Tom Cruise offering his condolences have to do with anything. When someone has a family member to die, that is what your friends do, offer love and support. Just because they are Scientologist, doesn't mean they don't hurt and need the people that love them around them at this time.

My heart breaks for them.

58. I lost my 19 year old son almost six years ago-it is the most painful thing a parent ever deals with, & contrary to what well meaning people say, time does not heal. Time softens the rough edges, but there is no healing from the loss of a child. I hope & pray that the Travoltas learn how to live with the pain & eventually create a new "normal" kind of life. As for "Mrs Bushmann"-I do believe that you need to rethink about who will burn in the fires of hell. Anyone who is that quick to attack parents who have just lost their child when it has been obvious from the beginning how they loved him is the "evil" one. You should be ashamed of yourself!!!

59. Scientologists don't believe in medication
So thus he had possible seizure that could have been kept under control of meds? Hmmmmmm good ole Ron Hubbard
See that is just crap!!!
My deepest condolences to his family

60. Absolutely no one has the right to judge this family or what they believe in. If they did not want to disclose the childs illness to anyone, that is there right! They get to choose their religion, be friends with Tom Cruise, have 2 males nannies and have medication choices, guess what it is called America, land of the free. They do not have to discuss their decisions with any of you. They provide for their children the best way THEY WANT TOO!!!!! Their child has died regardless if he was sick or hit his head. My heart goes out to all of the family!!!!!
