A visibly shaken Tom Cruise finally opened up about the death of his good friend's son -- describing Jett Travolta's death as "horrific" and addressing Scientology's role in the tragedy.
Struggling to find the right words, Cruise addressed the emotional topic during a taping for tomorrow's episode of "The View," where he claimed his religion does not prohibit people from seeing a doctor and getting proper medication.

18. I'm saddened by the fact that society as a whole has found it acceptable to poke fun at this man's religion, whatever it may be, in such a horrible time in his life. No parent should ever have to experience losing a child, no matter who you are, rich or poor, it's a horrible tragedy to lose a child. Shame on all of your negative comments.

20. I do have sympathy for Jett and wish his soul r.i.p. but man why are people so selective with their sympathy when a young man was shot in his back by one who we as taxpayers pay to protect us!? Where is the national outcry and sympathy for that??? Forget about race man look at what we as humans do to eachother and wonder why this country is picking up speed towards an inevitable downfall!!!

Notice these cult members always are very specific to say "go to the doctor, take medication for your PHYSICAL illnesses"--the problem has always been that they do not recognize autism as a physical illness, so they are snaking around the issue! Why didn't Babs push him and say, "well then, WHY do you think the Travoltas opted not to medicate Jett for this very serious condition, thus leading to his tragic and untimely death?" I would have LOVED to see him stumble all over THAT one.

24. why does he take so long to answer? because he doesnt have a script to memorize and he has to think. Tom Cruise never graduated high school, so having an intelligent thought for him is tough unless it is scripted or he is in front of his disciples at the church. other than that, I thought it was in VERY POOR taste for Barbara Walters and the View to sucker punch him with this line of questioning. A friend of his just lost his oldest son. Leave him alone.

26. He said take care of your PHYSICAL ailments. The Brooke Shields thing had to do with mental ailments, not physical ones. There must be something with the mental problems that scientologists don't agree with taking medication for. I think he seemed totally genuine. Also, TMZ did a good job on this, very classy.
