Patrick Swayze Hospitalized

Patrick Swayze has checked himself into the hospital after he came down with pneumonia.

Swayze was supposed to take part in a presentation for his show, "The Beast" -- but when he couldn't make it, the president of the A&E network informed reporters about the situation, at Patrick's request.

"He asked us specifically to go forward with today's panel. We wish him the very best with his recovery."

Swayze revealed last year that he is battling pancreatic cancer.

79. Dear Patrick and family...I am so sorry. I went through the same thing with my own husband of 28 years and 4 months and 5 days. My husband was 49 yrs old. He passed away Dec. 17th, 2003 of pancreatic cancer. He was a big strong guy like you Patrick. Two doctors told him to go to mental health and didn't think anything was wrong with him. He passed away 4 months and 5 days after the date of his diagnosis. He went in the hospital with pnuemonia and he then had to go to Hospice. There was nothing more they could do for him. He developed a fistula and became septic. I pray for you and Lisa and your family. It is literal HELL to go through. My husband had 11 chemo treatments with GemZAR. Sorry Patrick. Love U

81. I also watched his interview with BW. It was hard to sit and watch without having sadness and tears.
He is a wonderful inspiring human.....to work 12 hour days filming his new show and on weekends having his chemo treatments was shocking to hear.
Most all of us have had family members or friends that have had cancer and chemo treatments......it really takes a toll on your body and mind.
Partrick Swayze should be commended for his courage. strength and postive attitude!!!!
He holds a special place in many of our hearts!!

82. I'm praying for you to make a full recovery from this pneumonia Patrick and for the cure you and many have been waiting for.
You are such a good man. God bless you and help you through this.

83. #18 was blunt and to the point but informative. I hadn't realized that Patrick's immune system might not be able to fight off the pneumonia and that he could die from this rather than the disease itself. When I saw him doing his interview with Barbara Walters the other night, I could see his breathing was somewhat compromised so he probably already had the pneumonia. Yes, we're all going to die but the scary part is knowing that it might be a lot closer than thinking decades in the future. This is terribly sad. I felt like I knew him after seeing the interview....he is so brave.

86. Dear Patrick, I know that you are tired, and feeling pretty crummy right now, but I'm quite sure that you know that with God ALL things are possible. God loves you, and he will help you through this and any other battle/opstical you might face. Lean on him now, and ask that he cleanse you with the blood of Jesus; let that blood spilled on the cross make you whole! You have so many people who love you; family, friends, fans...but most of all GOD LOVES YOU!! I'm quite sure that millions of prayers are being offered up on your behalf tonight; I know that I'm saying one for you. I also know what it's like to face cancer; I found out I had stage 3-B breast cancer in May of '2000. My youngest son had to have his kidey removed due to cancer last year (hw was only 23 1/2 years old), and we're still trying to find some way for him to see an oncologist..in the meantime God is protecting him. You see; I do know what I'm talking about when I say that God still works miracles, and all you have to do is ask and have enough faith to be the size of a mustard seed...'He will do the rest! May God bless you and cradle you close to his heart always,
Robin

89. The great Michael Landon was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer at the same age as Patrick. As optimistic as he was, Michael was gone within 6 months. Patrick is defying the odds and I pray he continues. .

90. Sadly, as one poster mentioned, this is very bad, and I would love to see a miracle happen, something that would all give us hope, but miracles are getting fewer and further between nowadays. I've seen the effects of pancreatic cancer, and it is a horrible, upsetting disease. I would love to see him beat this, as he beat his alcholism, and live the rest of his life with his family. I don't, unfortunately see that happening, but I desperately want to see it happen. I lost my dad to the disease, two years ago, and if Swayze beat it, it would greatly benefit other patients in the long run. It is so sad that Pancreatic cancer, while the most aggressive type of cancer, is one of the most under funded and under researched. It really needs more funding to develop a cure. If funding was increased, who knows how many lives could be saved.

Alot of people have unfairly claimed that Swayze brought it on himself, due to his smoking and alcoholism. That is unfair and mean, in many respects. My dad had stopped smoking for over 15 years before he was diagnosed, and enjoyed only the seldom drink, never going overboard ever in his life, and often preferring a soda over an alcoholic drink, or sticking with tea. He still got the disease, and my mum, my brother and myself miss him every day.
