Photog Could Get Sacked Over Skier's Shrinkage

SkierThe dude who took the incredibly awesome photos of a skier being dangled with his dangle hangin' out -- could lose his job over the incident.

Marty Odem -- a photographer who works for a company that shoots pics of skiers at Vail Mountain ski lifts -- says he's already been suspended over the pics and believes he'll probably get fired over the incident. The photo company says the pics violate the skier's privacy. No pun intended.

Odom wrote on a snowboarding website that he took the pictures on his day off and was carrying his own camera. Even with the threat of losing his job, Odem claims "the photo is worth it."

And it sooo is.

136. Blaming the photographer is, in my opinion, a divesion. Think about this? If you are a skier and have frequented ski lifts, saftey staff, etc. how could you re-produce ths incident? I think this stinks of a fraud. As one person asked...how did his pants and underwear get down to his knees? My next thought may be related to his fitness...but why did he not reach up and pull, at leaat, his underware back "up or down" as you prefer the association with his position? I am an avid skier, which means nothing, except I am very impressed with, and appreciate the staff that operate these lifts and they are equiped with the latest and quickest safety equipment and quick stop electronics. This stinks BIG TIME.

137. While I'm sure the up-ended skier here would've liked a bigger star placed on him, I think the photographer was within his rights to capture the picture. He was not on the clock that day and had his own camera at the time. If the person not identified and unidentifiable by seeing it (ie, not face visible), I wouldn't comment on its being used. It is a unique, once in a lifetime kind of photo. But, if the person's privacy was violated by identifying him, that's a different story. Then again, there are those that are opposed to any kind of nudity on the internet. The visual editing really don't detract from the impact of the photo.

138. Give the photographer a break! Photographers take MUCH worse photos than this including police shoot outs and blood and gore and anything that you can imagine..... It is not as if the photographer in any way caused this to happen. The dude hanging there with his dangle berries exposed will probably use the photo in court to sue the ski lodge! The photographer only took pics after the fact and everyone of you have looked at the pic at least 10 times by now! Come on...you KNOW that you wish that little red star werent there! lol This is funny! and without the photographer it would not be nearly as visual or interesting.... Lighten up folks!

140. What does any company got to say what an employee does with their own equipment on their own time so long as he does not use his employer's name to his advantage? As far as taking pictures in a public place goes, that is what the entire news media is about. If I were the guy dangling from the ski lift I would happily buy a copy for my own personal files as well as evidence in the event a lawsuit occurs. As far as any exposure of his anatomy is concerned, I will start worrying about that as far as my children might be concerned when God starts having humans born fully covered in hair as an indication that nakedness in and of itself is to be considered sinful.

142. Hello #35, my son was NOT working, he was not "in full uniform". Do ski resort photographers wear uniforms? Not when my wife and I ski. He did not admit to the local papers that he lied about being off shift. And yes, the photos were taken from his personal camera, rather nice one too. Only two of the posted pics were his. Is anyone screaming for the name of the other(s)? Not hardly.
#75, thank you!
To the grammar police, please find something better to do, chase your teenagers when they text, that should give you a heart attack!
Any one bringing politics or John Travolta into the conversation - What the hell are you thinking about?
To Martys detractors I say "bugger off"
to his defenders, thank you, and please buy the boy a beer, ! he likes beer!
Oh, and to the guy who thinks my son should be beaten to a bloody pulp, have his pants taken down and pics taken of the bloody mess. You might want to stay away from those violent video games, you are a weird puppy!

145. It is a shame that some of us have stooped to such a level. I think that the majority of people have forgotten about compassion and courtesey. It is more important to get the story, than anything else. Why bother to think about the other person's feelings, or the affect that an embarrassing picture may have on the victim (yes, this guy is the victim) . Let's not try to help this guy, let's just take pictures and embarrass the guy to death. I hope that the photographer gets fired-maybe next time he'll think about the consequences of his actions.

146. How could anybody dare make such a comment about the late Jett Travolta and his parents? John Travolta and Kelly Preston along with thier daughter are most likely still in mourning over the loss of thier son and brother. Yet you make such a disrespectable comment and something like, and these are NOT your exact words, "Okay, Jett is dead and buried. Now it's off to Colorado!" Where, if any, is your commen decency?
