"Idol" Judges Lack Southern Hospitality

The judges on "American Idol" need to learn a little sumthin' about their southern slang -- before they crush another innocent gent.

A contestant on last night's episode was given a quick "no" from all four judges and on his way out told them, "Take care and be careful ... in whatever you do."

All the judges took the remark as a threat -- but in actuality, odd as it may be, "be careful" is a common parting expression in some areas of the south.

After Paula's ordeal with a stalker, it's easy to see how the judges might be a little overly defensive.

47. I agree with most of these people. I have lived in KY all of my life and am proud of it. We say "be careful" to each other all the time and that is exactly what we mean. We want whomever it is to be careful, whether it means while driving or whatever. We want them to be safe. I too think the judges owe him an apology. They were very RUDE. Maybe he couldn't sing the way they wanted but they didn't have to make him look like a fool. He had no idea that he said anything wrong so when he stopped to see why they were concerned, it made him look confused. I think it is ashame. I don't know if I will ever watch AI again!!!! BOTTOM LINE JUDGES-YOU NEED TO APOLOGIZE TO HIM AND ALL OF US WHO ALSO SAY BE CAREFUL ALL THE TIME!!!

48. Randy is a decent judge and all round nice person , but those other three are complete arse holes, real, true to life, arse holes, if you looked arse hole up in the dictionary all three of their pictures would be next to it. I've come across many arse holes in my life but to get three out of four on the same show must be some kind of record, or is it prerequisite.

49. I couldn't believe the way Paula and the rest of the judges acted. It really made me mad when I saw that. I live in Southern Missouri and that is a very normal way for people to speak here. We always tell people to be careful when we leave them, they leave us, and even when we hang up the phone. It's called manners. Maybe the judges should take some lessons!!!

50. This is an instance where we have the power. Boycott the show and it's advertisiers. Flood them with complaints.

51. How rude!!

That's just a southern way of being polite. Just yesterday a girl at work told me to be careful when I was leaving. Should I be worried about her attacking me??? *L* Hell no...she was being nice. We tell each other down here to be careful because we CARE about people. End of story. Paula is stupid and so is Simon. Randy should've spoken up.

52. I am not a fan of American Idol...just a fan of TMZ! I am from KY myself, and I tell everyone to 'Be Careful.' I end most of my converstations with a simple, 'Be Careful.' Never has there been any type of underlying meaning in this phrase. To me, and most people that I know, this is just a simple act of kindness and concern for ones' wellbeing! These people are idiots!

53. the "threat" reaction was ridiculous. it was obvious the guy bore no malice and was only saying "take care" .. the judges all looked like fools and the poor contestant was completely confused and embarassed.

54. I never saw the show, but that is STOOPID, I Live in the south and we say that all the time, well i say that all the time, take care, be careful. Maybe they are trying the raise the rating that is why they are making a BIG DEAL OUT OF NOTHING. Maybe if they dont understand the language, Then they outght to stay away from the SOUTH.

56. I live in Louisville Kentucky and can back up the "be careful" salutation, but their reactions were simply classless. Shame on you Paula and Simon!

57. Boy, this is really hard to believe. I actually missed this show last night while at church. oh, by the way the preacher said for everyone to be careful. Was he threatening all of us - DON'T THINK SO.... It is time for some people to eat some humble pie and apologize. Here in the South if you are threatened by someone I guarantee you, you will know it. This poor guy looked so confused, he definately didn't mean anything by it.

58. When they kept showing that portion of the show that was coming up next, I thought the guy was going to say something awful. Being from the South...this is a very common expression that is said to people as you are parting ways. It's common courtesy and shows you care about people. It's not a threat!! It was so ridiculous how they treated that poor guy...and didn't even bother to stop and think before accusing him of something so ridiculous. They should definitely apologize to the guy...in some way. Not only was it insulting to him, it was insulting to a lot of people they way those judges acted.

59. I was appalled by the way they treated this guy, when he told them to be careful. I say the same thing all of the time. Or, "take care," or something similar. Paula was a retard about it and Simon (I swear he acts like a femme fatale) practically swooned. I felt bad for the guy. THEY NEED TO GET OVER THEMSELVES!

60. Fist of all they need a Gong to stop these people from carrying on, after they are told no.The Judges of the show should be complaining to the producer and director of the show, they let the most annoying non singers go on and on,even after they were told they cannot sing, and I am witnessing a new low, that the capable and I d' say talented singers are made to beg for a shot in Hollywood ,while the mediocore singers get through. I know they have to have some bad with good, but why are they making decent singers beg?? As for this guy the editors of the shop were having a field day they tried to make him look as menacing as possible, he couldn't sing but he didn't threaten anyone such jerks!
