"Idol" Judges Lack Southern Hospitality

The judges on "American Idol" need to learn a little sumthin' about their southern slang -- before they crush another innocent gent.

A contestant on last night's episode was given a quick "no" from all four judges and on his way out told them, "Take care and be careful ... in whatever you do."

All the judges took the remark as a threat -- but in actuality, odd as it may be, "be careful" is a common parting expression in some areas of the south.

After Paula's ordeal with a stalker, it's easy to see how the judges might be a little overly defensive.

61. I'm from the South too (SC) and in no way was this a threatening comment! IDOL judges made complete idiots of themselves. They need to apologize to him!!

62. I'm from Texas. It's a courtesy to tell people to be careful. I haven't watched Idol this year, but I heard their reaction on the radio this morning. What a bunch of idiots. Seriously. Be careful, means, well BE CAREFUL. CARE FULLY. FULLY CARE. I.E. Don't go acting like an idiot, which all judges did last night.......

Welcome to the SOUTH.

63. Actually telling someone to be careful is not only common in the south, but in the midwest as well. It is as common as saying 'bless you' when someone sneezes--maybe they aren't used to that in celebrityland either. Saying be careful is another way of saying be safe or take it easy on those icy roads, or anything else you wish it to mean. All 4 judges looked clueless-the poor contestant--now watch....he will become a favorite for this reason and end up singing at different places just like that dude that sang 'She Bangs' all over the country-lol

64. Not only are the judges ignorant on cultural issues, a "be careful" is a common southern phrase, meant to be mannerly and show kindness, but they are ignorant in their judging. They seemed to think him completely lacking in talent, but with a bluegrass band backing him up, he would have been pretty darned good in his genre. Sort of John Connelly with a bluegrass touch.

Apparently the judges are only capable of judging talent for music styles they prefer to listen to.

65. I say be careful to my wife and kids and family all the time. But I don't look at them like I am going to choke them while I say it.

66. I say to Paula and the new girl, Simon and Randy - YOU ALL ARE IDIOTS!!! Everyone that lives in the Appalachia Mountains know that "Be Careful" is a kind extention of wishing one safety and love. It is just so rude how you people act, like you all are so above everyone. I listen to you guys and I wonder how on earth you ever got to be where you all are at. Everyone has feelings and it would do you all good to remember that. Living here in Kentucky I felt offended by your words and actions. Shame on you all!! Also, Idol Producers - you should lose the "new girl". She is a dimwit and I won't watch another esposide of American Idol because of her and Paula.

67. 29. I am from the south. (South Carolina) I worked with a guy that looked like this guy and acted the same way. Trust me he meant what he said in a bad way. The look he gave them is the same look that the guy I know has when he is mad. Sure they poke fun of people that come on the show and harsh, but if the people are dumb enough to go in front of them knowing they are like that and can't sing or dress funny.... They have it coming to them.

But this guy is a psycho. I guarantee it. The guy I know would get upset at the slightest thing and say things like that and look at you the same way. Pure evil.

Folks, the above comment is just as stupid as Abdul's comment.

68. WOW! Hollywood types are out of touch. Maybe its the wealth ,living in the Hills or the copious amount of drugs they do. I felt terrible for this guy.Wasn't this show taped before the stalker incident? The south has been getting a bad rap and this type of insensitivity shows Hollywood's true colors. American Idol, Paula/Simon and Fox owes this guy an apology. Maybe they owe the south an apology as well!

69. Also, what got me, was when that guy "the Nerd" guy took a sip from Paula's cup and she acted like he puked in the cup or something equally as terrible! Insulting and humiliating for the young man. They bring in questionably intelligent people (meaning no disrespect at all to anyone) and then make fun of them! This is why I hate AI. And, again, the new judge is just trying too damn hard! This show is really starting to piss me off!

70. Guess the show is so dull that they have to create drama where there clearly is none. Hope that poor guy reads these comments and sees that everyone is laughing at the judges and at the show. That is, assuming Paula and Simon haven't had him thrown in JAIL or anything!

71. The AI judges, judged more then his singing voice. They judged his decendants, his looks, haircut and his southern heritage. The South has been stereotyped by Hollywood. You always hear actors/singers/directors say how predjudice is not tolerable. They used these ideals when they back a political candidate. What, its ok to bash someone from the South as long as they are white?? HYPOCRITES!! What would Fox/AI do if the South boycotted AI??Thats a huge portion of this countries population, and for them to get "the drift" you need to hit them in the pocketbook. That means slumping ratings.

72. Not only were they rude to this guy, but I wanted to slap the new judge right out of her chair when she insulted one of the other contestants. She she made a comment to the girl that was something like "Oh, I get it. I see you were voted wittiest in high school" (that may not have been her exact words, but close), When the poor girl started to cry, the new judge acted like she wasn't intentionally being mean. Yeah right! She knew what she was doing when she said it and she WAS trying to be mean.

73. I'm not from the south and I say "be careful" all of the time. Others say it to me, too, and I think it's a very nice thing to say. I hope Paula and Simon don't have a restraining order on this poor guy by now. Paula and Simon, you owe this polite young man an apology!

74. I lost all respect for this show after the Carrie Underwood season. The judges need to be way more professional. The thing that bothers me the most is when 1 or all the judges openly laugh at people, they need to remember that this contest is for ammitures. The producers need to remove all the screwups by having mini auditions in the line. when AI came to Detroit we had a girl working for us that did have a good voice and looked really good. She came back to work and told us she never got a chance to try out because she was 20people to far back in line and missed the cut while many in front of her were some of these no talent dressed up in clown suits, ect. The judges/producers should issue an apology to that Southern Gentleman.
