"Idol" Judges Lack Southern Hospitality

The judges on "American Idol" need to learn a little sumthin' about their southern slang -- before they crush another innocent gent.

A contestant on last night's episode was given a quick "no" from all four judges and on his way out told them, "Take care and be careful ... in whatever you do."

All the judges took the remark as a threat -- but in actuality, odd as it may be, "be careful" is a common parting expression in some areas of the south.

After Paula's ordeal with a stalker, it's easy to see how the judges might be a little overly defensive.

121. Now I remember why I never watched the show after the first season and not regularly then. Simon is a professional a-hole, Paula is a has been that never really was, and Randy Jackson, well, what can you say. Um. People all over the U.S. use the expression "be careful" it's completely normal. The judges have shot themselves in the foot this time. Hopefully the ratings will continue to decline and the miserable show will finally go off the air never to be seen or heard from again.
By the way, here in N.C. you would know when you are threatened. Most of us start off with F**K YOU and go from there.

122. As a southern girl, I can tell you that "be careful" is something we say to people all the time. It's not a threat at all. It's just good ole' southern hospitality.
If a southern person threatens you, you'll know it. We don't tend to use vague threats lol.

123. Well after what Paula has been going thru i think any thing would make her more paranoid than she already is... maybe it was a certain look he gave that the viewing audience did not pick up on..some slight innuendo that we missed. And then again...maybe it meant nothing at all but with all the crazies out here you just don't want to chance it. I live up north and we never say Be Careful...we might say "take care" or Stay Safe and i guess that pretty much means the same thing. Better safe than sorry in any case I believe.

124. I feltbad, he was very sincere, YET, I would have taken it as a threat probally if someone was to tell me to be careful. It's sad, cause it's actually nice for someone to look out for your safety.

125. Oh wow. So Paula let's some random chick stalk her for 17 years and it's endearing but a guy tells the panel to take care and be careful and she freaks! Hrm...ridin that crazy train a little hard. Oh "celebrities" are funny:)

126. They need to bring him to Hollywood during the finals, bring him onstage and give him a public apology. I'm a Yankee girl and I say be careful all the time. These prima donnas need to get a grip!

127. Maybe if Paula wasn't doped out on benzo's & booze and Simon wasn't such a prick and all of them weren't so full of themselves they wouldn't have taken that as a threat. I'm from Kansas City,Mo which I don't exactly consider "the south" but everyone around here says "be safe"& "be careful" all the time. I'm not exactly sure why anyone would ever take that as any sort of threat unless they were honestly just that egotistical. Unless they way the guy said it was Creep-tacstic then maybe I could understand. But then again, people in LA just aren't genuinely nice in general.

128. I know this guy from school. He is a nice guy just a little different. I agree he did pick the wrong type of song to sing for that show. I was thinking it was gonna be a good laugh but felt sorry for him after I seen the show

129. They obviously aren't that scared or threatened otherwise Paula woulda left the show long ago because of that other gal. Seems MONEY helps make them not so scared.

132. As infuriating as it was that the judges were so quick to jump to conclusions, it was just as bad that Fox kept showing the moment before each commercial break where the judges were asking if he had a gun, if he was threatening them, etc. The Fox network completely built it up to look like something horrible happened so they're just as much to blame over this hoopla as the ignorant judges are. This good ol' country boy was made to seem like he was psycho all in the name of higher ratings. Fox could've taken the high road and edited this properly. I hope Mr. Mudd sues all of them for defamation of character!!!! Be careful, y'all...

133. I'm so offended by this drunken, drugged nutjob I wrote every address I could find on American Idol & Fox. What the hell did she think it was, auditions for The Sopranos? Did he look like a gangster out for revenge. This is something I say to people I care about every day. He was trying to be nice to a bunch of self important jerks who thought he was a hick & an easy target, someone Paula could use to keep the "stalker" publicity going a little longer. They embarrassed him on national tv, not due to his singing, but because he was trying to be genuinely nice. JERKS!! I REALLY REALLY hate Paula "junkie" Abdul now, before I only pitied her. They need to kick her off that show. But before that, they need to issue an apology on air to that poor young man.

134. Being a southern belle, but recently transplanted to another region.....this appalls me!!! I still use the phrase, :be careful" on a daily basis. Now I wonder if maybe someone will mistakenly think of my good nature as being "threatening". What a pity that the judges are so out of touch with humanity!
