Travolta Suspect Resigns

Sen, Pleasent BridgewaterOne of the three people charged with trying to extort money from John Travolta has resigned.

Sen. Pleasant Bridgewater has tendered her resignation from Parliament today, releasing the following statement:

"Yesterday, 23rd January is a day that will live in my memory as a nightmare. In my capacity as a lawyer, I acted within the bounds of the law and within the bounds of my ethical responsibility to my profession. How these innocent actions can be so misconstrued, so perversely twisted to mean something other than it was, is a mystery.

I assure the Bahamian people of my complete and total innocence and I am satisfied that when the full story comes out that I shall be fully vindicated. I will then take all appropriate and lawful actions for redress and to protect my good name.

I have spoken to the leader of our Party the Rt. Honourable Perry Christie. I have told him that while I am completely innocent, that I believe that while I fight these untrue and unfair charges that I should not put the Party through this ordeal. I have thereby indicated that I will resign from the Senate with immediate effect so that I can devote my full energies to the legal battle which now faces me.

I want to thank the Leader for his confidence in me and for allowing me the privilege of serving the country and the PLP. I want to thank the wonderful people of the Marco City Constituency for all their love, encouragement, prayers and support. I thank all people of goodwill who have sent words of encouragement. I thank my family and my counsel for all of their assistance. I am unbowed and I fully intend to fight so that I shall be vindicated. Please continue to pray for me."

16. #11 - Anna Nicole + respect. Two words that I never thought I'd see in the same sentence... LOL

17. I respect the comments made by all!

However, please note that these two politicians are not members of the present Government The Free National Movement, (FNM) they are members of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), the party voted out of office on May 2nd, 2007, severd only one term due to SLACKNESS, that is not accepted by the majority of the Bahamian citizens.

Also, please do not put all Bahamians in the same category of these two (2) jackasses, and the others in the PLP, whose members for some strange reason loves to befriend celebrities (or any visitor with money) seemingly at any cost. This is disgusting!

Whether guilty or not, for them to be associated by such a disgusting act, is beyond comprehension.

The Bahamian hearts go out to the Travolta family.

Our Country is beautiful and our people are friendly, and your privacy is respected by us.

We love you all!

18. Mariamaria, your comments sounds like a paid advertisement from a travel brochure. Do you work for the visitors center and afraid that all of these celebs and their children dieing there are going to tarnish your rep? If so, I think you have good reason to be worried!!

20. Until we as AMERICANS start boycotting these Islands where there is so much unlawful situations taking place. They kidnap and murder our citizens, they extort our citizens, they do everything they can and then to resign and say she's innocent....are you freakin' kidding me?
BOYCOTT ALL OF THE ISLANDS PEOPLE!

21. No Angie, I don't work in the Tourism Industry. Far from it - however, I love my Country and yes I'm sick to my stomach when Elected Officials or anyone do dumb things that could tarnish my Country.

I know what it is to loose a loved one suddenly. There's no eraser that can make a correction when this happens, so, I'm not pissed just because it happened here in my Country, I'm pissed, because of the pain the Travolta's is feeling and yes, the Jackasses thought to take advantage of his celebrity status. This is messed up!

Elected officials should lead by example - if Mr. Travolta was a "friend" of Obie's and he and his family is treated in this inhumane manner after the sudden death of their son, I'm wondering how he would've treated them if he did not know them.

One day we all will pass - how would we like it if some jackass like these 2 did something like this to our bereaved family.

No one should have to experience such sh....... in life, regardless of what Country they are from.

22. 13. 16. Many wealthy Americans give up their American citizinships to ex-pat and become Bahamaian citizens. Check out Michael D. Dingman, one of many. The tax breaks are extremely advantageous to the very wealthy. I would never accuse a government of being corrupt, as I have no personal knowledge that they are. Let me just say the Bahamas are a beautiful vacation spot, goverened by laws that are perhaps different than those in the U.S.

24.

You very bloggers that vilified Travolta's religion, spit vitriol at them, blogged that they killed their son through in-action, are now vilifying vultures , like yourselves for trying to make a buck, on the people who you verbally lynched.....

Make up your minds...............

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black...........

you people make me laugh. Go read the hate you spewed at Travolta , and now you spew hate at people who tried to make a buck , like the vulture paps who use long lenses to capture "naughty" pics of the stars, and then try to extort them.

LOL.

25. Dan...Is America perfect? Are people not raped, kidnapped and murdered every second of every day in America? Are none of your politicians corrupt? Do people not attempt to extort or embezzle money on a regular basis? And yet you are so quick to judge and condemn an entire nation. Anna Nicole Smith and Jett Travalota were not kidnapped, raped or murdered in The Bahamas, Anna Nicole didn't even die here, although it is unfortunate the events that followed their deaths, but they are just two in the thousands of celebrities that visit on a regular, enjoy their stay and return to America where their chances of someone trying to extort money, stalk them, kidnap, rape or even murder them increases tremendously....so advising Americans to boycott is more than a little bit extreme.

26. it is quite amaizing how some of you guys talk about the Bahamas [[like you live here]] ...

we dont judge all americans by the actions of Rod Blagojevich, The Governor of Illinois.. or George Bush or Dick Cheney..

"They kidnap and murder our citizens, they extort our citizens," (Dan) [Who The **** is [They]..

I guess the USA is perfect right?? Comee on broo.. Don't Say THings Like That.. We depend on tourism...

We have some bad guys... & So do you [The Powerful U.S.A....]

When Hurricane KATRINA hit the Golf coast i personally gave thousands of dollars to the Red Cross to help out.. Im sure i wasn't the only Bahamian who gave to help our Brothers & Sisters to the North...

Don't judge US like that... "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.."

& if you feel like yoou are God, then go ahead and disrespect the people responsible for this act but never judge the Bahamas like that....

27. The Natalie Holloway story is way old... who cares now? Who knows what happened to Natalie Holloway... and lest anyone forget she was at a bar that night... who knows if she just got loaded and then drowned. Wouldn't doubt it.. Check out spring breaks everywhere... it's just about kids getting completely loaded and doing stupid things. It's not like she was somebody important, say like a diplomat, or the daughter of some king or president; she just happened to be from some affluent family. If it was some poor kid, that wouldn't even make it to the local news.

28. How very sad for the Travolta family. At a time when they are mourning the loss of their beloved son, they have to put up with the lowest form of people attempting to extort monies from them. The Bahama's have not changed in forty years. It has always been corrupt. In the 60's & 70's, Americans built beautiful hotels and a few lovely casino's. They employed previously unemployable Bahamians. They gave these people a step up and what did those people turn around and do? Burn the hotels, rob tourists and basically bit off their noses to spite their faces. Their 'government' at the time, turned their faces from the truth and allowed the Bahamian's to act as animals. Here we are, in the 2000's and nothing has changed. The corruption regarding Anna Nicole Smith & her son Daniel's death and now this with the Travolta's. Why any tourist would set foot in the Bahama's, Aruba, Mexico or the like, and spend American money in those places is beyond me. Boycott all the islands, let the animals feed off each other, keep our money here.

29. #27, so you're advocating America should be intervening in the affairs of another country? Some people call that occupation... not too many people look too favorably on that. that would be like Canada coming down and telling us what to do...

Plus, our beaches suck compared to the islands :) The water is much cleaner!

30. #2, I guess that makes up for your face, ya know right?..Anyway, What were the blackmaileres holding over the Travoltas?
