John TravoltaTurns out Pleasant Bridgewater has not entered a plea in the John Travolta extortion case.

Under the laws of the Bahamas, Bridgewater elected not to enter a plea. She's charged with conspiracy to extort Travolta, along with EMT Tarino Lightbourne.

Extortion Plot Revealed
A document signed by famed actor John Travolta instructing a paramedic/ambulance driver to take his son Jett directly to a Grand Bahama airport is the central object of an alleged extortion plot. When it was discovered that the aircraft could not accommodate Jett as a patient, he was taken to the Rand Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed.
According to Police sources, shortly after 16-year-old Jett Travolta died, the paramedic Tarino Lightbourne, met with Obie Wilchcombe, Member of Parliament for West End and Bimini and former Senator Pleasant Bridgewater.

Police say Lightbourne showed them the document, which was not filed with the authorities and suggested that it was valuable. Thereupon, Mr. Wilchcombe telephoned Travolta lawyers and informed them of the document, which he said they should be concerned about.

Travolta’s lawyer Michael McDermott was told that it was incriminating. To which Mr. McDermott responded, "In my part of the world that is extortion."

Police say Mr. Wilchcombe then introduced Ms. Bridgewater to Mr. McDermott.

Subsequently, Travolta’s Bahamas attorney, Allyson Gibson was instructed to meet with Ms. Bridgewater, who was representing Lightbourne.

She, according to Police, told Mrs. Gibson that her client wanted $25 million for the document or that it would be turned over to the international media.

Mrs. Gibson, who is Opposition Leader in the Senate, reportedly asked her ex-Senate colleague whether she knew it was a case of extortion. Ms. Bridgewater, allegedly, felt that it was better for her to handle the matter to save the good name of the country, rather than to allow a rogue lawyer to do so.

Sometime later Ms. Bridgewater and Mr. Lightbourne were invited to meet the Travolta lawyers in Nassau where negotiations continued on the matter.

Police say the persons accused of the conspiracy to extort the funds then set a deadline of last week Tuesday for the receipt of the money. When it was not forthcoming, there were persistent calls to the lawyers from Ms. Bridgewater.

Mr. McDermott then instructed Mrs. Gibson to alert the American Ambassador and the Prime Minister.

According to a source close to Mrs. Gibson, she only telephoned Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham because Mr. Travolta wanted the matter to be resolved quickly.

The source told the Journal, "Opposition Leader Perry Christie was not informed about the matter because Mrs. Gibson did not want Mr. Christie to be dragged into the affair. She wanted to protect Mr. Christie from controversy."

Now, the source said Mr. Travolta feels betrayed by Obie Wilchcombe.

Travolta has given Police a statement and is prepared to travel to The Bahamas for the trial of the accused persons as he wishes to clear the air on the cause of the death of his son. The Travolta American lawyers alleged that Lightbourne claimed that the document could be construed as negligence by Mr. Travolta in the death of his son.

It is said that Mr. Travolta wanted his son to be airlifted to the United States for treatment.

In a statement to the press last weekend, Ms. Bridgewater indicated that at all material times she acted in the interest of her client.

Lightbourne, 47, was arraigned in the Magistrate Court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit extortion.

Ms. Bridgewater is expected to be charged today.

34. ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

But do they actually have real attorneys in places like the Bahamas???

Posted at 3:28PM on Jan 28th 2009 by R.Zimmerman

That comment really pisses me off because all of our attorneys have traveled to places such as Europe and Canada to get their degrees and have worked hard to achieve them we are just as qualified and educated as any other lawyer in any other country. The American press is really taking this too far and are pointing fingers at the wrong people.. how dare they make and assumption of the Bahamian people because of one or two bad eggs. America can't be pointing fingers at us when their own hands aren't even clean. You people really think that America is the world and think you can contradict and rule any country you want but i have news for you if you can't control your own country how in the hell can you control another.

36. I've read everything pertaining to this case. I find this case to be very interesting. While a lot of Bahamian people have not felt Pleasant Bridgewatrer's rath, I have know a few. While she may have a good heart, it is what it is.

I too felt that JT is hiding something about the death of his son because he cremated him as well as he allowed Bahamian Drs. to perform the autopsy. The autopsy should have been performed in the United States, but then who am I. He too will be judged just like us.

Now, to deal with Pleasant. What Pleasant did was wrong, it is and was against the law, the law that she swore to upheld when taking the oath to become an Attorney, but she succumded to greed, just like alot of human beings. Pleasant needed to realize that what goes around comes around. She knew as an Attorney, if JT did something wrong, it was not her duty to approach him, it was her duty to approached the Commonwealth of The Bahamas with the documents that she and/or her client had in their possession, present to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and let them take the case out against JT. After all the document that was signed is a legal document requesting JTrequest and his request should be honored. (The Bahamian people are lucky that JT is not suing the government of the Bahamas) It was not Pleasant's job to approach JT's Attorney personally, so by her doing that, she actually put herself in the position that she is in now.

I will pray for her and I wish her all the best, but if she is found guilty, she will certainly be disbarred and imprisioned. If she is found not guilty, her business is down the drain. She will be at the Court house looking for clients and clients who will pay for her to represent them then and there. No client is going to give her money to hold in escrow, because she will missappropriate those funds. She does have a history, a history that the Bahamian people are turning a blind eye to.

37. OMG!!! people. Get a grip. This family has lost a beloved son. I know the pain, of loss of a child. It is unimaginable. Every day I am sure the Travolta's feel this horrible pain, regardless of how or why Jett Travolta died. How can anyone judge on pure speculations?, What is so sad about this story, is the sensationalism that always surrounds celebreties and their families, without respect to their grief. Whatever was the reason for this alleged extortion will come to light in the upcoming proceedings of a righteous judicial hearing. No one, in the Bahamas or the USA, can say which way this will be finalized. However, I do want to mention to all of the readers, viewers, and interested parties, to please allow this family to grieve, make forward movements to the memory of Jett, and allow them to get on with their lives without any kind of speculative and distasteful accusations about John Travolta whom I saw in the news, every time, holding Jett's hand as if to protect him from the harms of publicilty. Please, let the Travolta's alone, and stop this warring of words, that to me seem as senseless as the tragic death of a 16 year old boy. Let everyone reading this send a prayer of hope to the family left behind. SHALOM Jamie Dakis
