Gary Collins Busted for DUI -- Again

Gary CollinsWe've learned Gary Collins -- the former Miss America host and talk show host, has been arrested yet again for DUI.

Law enforcement tells TMZ Collins was busted at 9:16 last night by the CHP just south of Montecito, on suspicion of DUI. Law enforcement sources tell us Collins refused a field sobriety test but was subsequently given a blood alcohol test.

Collins -- former host of "Hour Magazine" and "The Home Show" -- was taken to the Santa Barbara County Jail where he was booked and released.

A year ago Collins pled no contest to DUI in an accident that resulted in the death of the other driver. Collins was not prosecuted for manslaughter, in part because the other driver caused the crash by making an illegal left. Collins is currently on 4 years probation. If he was driving drunk again, he'll almost certainly go to jail.

Back in 2002, Collins was found not guilty of DUI in Mississippi.

151. As for "angels in snow" comment re "plead and pled", sorry old chum -- before the English language fell into disgrace, the word "plead" (pronounced PLED) was used always. For instance, "Joe Jones PLEAD guilty" or haven't you read a real book lately? My God, I do fear for our language. We say "no problem" instead of "you're welcome". Kids now say "Yeah" instead of "Yes". The idiotic word "irregardless" is getting way too popular. The term "I couldn't care less" has changed to the nonsensical "I COULD care less". Want more? Pick up a dictionary, pal.

152. In Scandinavian countries, the first time you are convicted of drunk driving, you lose your license – forever. We are a country who takes the right to drive a car as something like a birthright to the point that we can kill and mutilate people driving under the influence and get a suspended sentence. I lost a friend and co-worker 15 years ago to a drunk driver. My friend had been in a fender bender in the rain and while exchanging insurance information standing between the cars, a third car piloted by a drunk returning from a football party slammed into the rear car, slamming the two together, nearly cutting my friend in two. She was 25 and died lying in the mud on the side of a highway. His sentence was to serve two years of weekend and holiday time. My friend lost her life. He lost his weekend liberty for two years and was convicted of a THIRD DUI a year following that, his third. He is still driving.
Regardless of Mr. Collins sentence, if indeed he receives one, he should NEVER be allowed behind the driver’s seat of an automobile again in his life.
I am myself a 20 year recovering alcoholic. Here but for the grace of God go I...

153. Gary....be ashamed. You're a little old to not have it more together than you seem to. Go to rehab...do something to try and help yourself. You were such an upstanding role model back in the day. Of course, you were probably doing the drinking back then and just not letting the public see too much of it. Poor Mary Ann (if you're still married). What she must have to contend with. Sad.

154. The first DUI accident was caused by the OTHER driver who DID NOT die. Mr. Collins should not have been driving impaired at any rate. I like Gary. I think he was a fine actor. However, he needs to call a cab if he wants to drink.

155. To Jean Summers the misunderstood cheerleader.

I just read your #111 post. If your husband is a surgeon and you have heard first hand the terrible damage drunk driving has done to people's lives, how could your statement even come to your mind?? I haven't been adversely affected by drunk drivers, as in losing anyone close to me, but I read the papers and have enough compassion to feel other's pain. If you are unable to feel other's pain, you are called a sociopath (sp?).

Someone that has a young daughter that can't visualize her life being taken by a drunk driver before making such a immature, selfish, stupid comment such as tyours, has questionable character to say the least.

If you want to be taken seriously, take that ridiculous cheerleader crap off your signature line. I can't think of any story that it could have originated from that wouldn't provoke negativity.

157. This guy is washed up, why do you think he drinks? He needs to go to the slammer. He obviously won't learn any other way. Why do they keep letting him off the hook? Are they waiting for something completely heartbreaking to happen? Get a bike old man.

158. Mr. Collins clearly needs help. With his alcohol level he had to consume many drinks in an hour. I feel sorry for poor Mary Ann Mobley. She is not in great physical condition and doesn't need this. I think with him being on probation that he will probably get some time for this. Though celebrities can hire the best defense to get them leniency. Obviously, the rehabs and AA meeting didn't help him. I am sure no one will want him to host a television show any-longer.

159. People, stop dissin' Gary Collins. He's a good bro, like myself. Were both in the entertainment industry and for that reason alone I feel people think it's their right to judge us. Although i don't drink alcohol, I smoke crack. People make mistakes, you gotta give them another chance and you should forgive them. I learn't that from my stay at 'Sober House'.
