When Miley Cyrus transformed herself into Hanoi Montana for this photo -- she had to know it would turn into bad fortune. 
The OCA -- a group "dedicated to advancing the social, political and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans" -- is fuming at this photo of Miley and pals for using what they have deemed an offensive, stereotypical gesture.
The OCA sent us this statement: "The photograph of Miley Cyrus and other individuals slanting their eyes currently circulating the Internet is offensive to the Asian Pacific American community and sets a terrible example for her many young fans. This image falls within a long and unfortunate history of people mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent...
...Not only has Miley Cyrus and the other individuals in the photograph encouraged and legitimized the taunting and mocking of people of Asian descent, she has also insulted her many Asian Pacific American fans," said George Wu, executive director of OCA. "The inclusion of an Asian Pacific American individual in the photo does not make it acceptable."
"OCA hopes that Miley Cyrus will apologize to her fans and the APA community for this lapse in judgment and takes the opportunity to better understand why the gesture is offensive."

I am everybody of Asian descent that I know think that the photo is offensive and racist. You notice the
people who are white are the ones in the pictures doing their pulling eyes.

does not get it: there are people who use the N word for the African Americans
and who are fired for using the N word. The photo is analogous to
those same people who uses the N word and paint themselves black, wear
fake big lips, wear fake wide noses and taking the photo eating watermelons which
is cetainly offensive to African Americans and then claims that the photo does
not make fun of those African Americans.
It is the OCA who is rascist by even making this a racial issue. Has anyone bothered to notice that ALL the kids in the photo have their eyes squinted EXCEPT the asian guy? Its obviously a gag photo that had an inside joke involved. Obviously, the group was not insulting their asian friend - has anyione bothered to check with him on the true gag involved? These are all just kids. This was a private photo that someone decided to leak for their own purposes.
It was a joke people, lighten up! Only "minorities" make such a big deal out of it, I mean really, do I go around getting all freggin' offended by Michael Jackson bleaching his skin trying to act white? NOOOOOO!

for all the comments defending miley and her actions i.e. "get tougher skin", "white people should be offended by the asian guy holding his eyes wide", etc...look at the big picture. you seem to forget that caucasians hold just about all of the political and economic power in this country since they are the majority. minorities are not equally represented in politics and government. that's why they are minorities. this is a huge deal to the minorities who are trying to improve their social status. so by differentiating somebody's looks based on race in contrast to the CAUCASIAN MAJORITY perpetuates an unequal playing field. more importantly, it prepetuates the majority continuing to be the majority and making sure the minority stays where they are at. so you can see how this can manifest in society and the work place with favoritism, hiring practices, promotions, opportunities, etc. so the slanted eye gesture shows that "you are different", "inferior", "not like us" and a group is typically only concerned with its own intersts and survival.
now i am not saying miley is a racist, maybe just ignorant, but her actions definitely perpetuate the overall problem especially since she is a public figure. and if there is ever a time IN THIS COUNTRY where asians hold the majority in population, economic and poitical power, then i would be able to fully understand all the comments defending miley's actions.
$4 billion dollars for being a 16 year old? This is ridiculous. If it was "racially oriented", she would obviously have a problem with Asians and wouldn't be sitting next to one in the picture.
