Bale Apologizes

'I Acted Like a Punk'

2/6/2009 2:11 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Christian Bale just finished publicly begging for forgiveness for that F-bomb filled, on-set explosion, saying he took it "way too far" and he only did it because he "cares too much" about the movie.

Christian Bale
Bale called in to to L.A.'s "Kevin & Bean" morning radio show on KROQ and spilled his guts on the incident apologizing like crazy and explaining how things were never going to get violent with the guy he verbally attacked because the dude is a huge "ex friggin' football player ... not little orphan Annie!"

Oh, and he really wants you to see his next movie.

Not sure that Bale can deny now the incident with his mom and sister a while back - that's some serious anger problem. Regardless of being 'in the moment' in a scene, no matter how idiotic the guy was for walking behind the scene, the explosive way Bale acted does not excuse. You're an actor, Christian - not a heart surgeon or cancer curer. Stop taking yourself so bloody seriously.

Oh, isn't it just great how Christian Bale excuses his unprofessional behavior because he "cares too much" about the movie. Sure, he cares about a movie more than he cares about the feelings and dignity those people who are the unwitting targets of his irrational rage! Of all the self-serving pseudo-apologies I've ever heard, this is one of the worst. Perhaps Bale should consider changing his given name, since there's not really much "Christian" about his behavior. How's this name? NARCISSUS!!!

There is NO valid reason for him to react with such a tirade of filthy language like that! When someone expresses themselves in such a vulgar and rude way, that tells me a lot about a person. WHY did he wait to apologize after it became public?? Could he just be trying to salvage his public image??? Hmmm. Saying that he "acted like a punk" is putting it way to mildly! He needs to come back down to earth and begin treating people in the way that he wants to be treated. He needs to build a bridge and get over himself because he's not as important as he thinks he is!! They sure don't make role models like they use to! He's just immature, sad, and pathetic!!!

Hey, naysayers, let's go over two things.

A.) Bale DID apologize to the DP the same day of the incident back in summer '08.

B.) For those who say he's only apologizing because the recording surfaced, how should he have apologized? When the tape wasn't public, when a private matter had already been dealt with? So he could apologize for something we had never heard, and thus making us seek out the recording in the first place? What sense does that make? That's creating a story where there isn't one.

Cares too much!?!!. Actor!?!! Isn't that akin to the check is in the mail, not c..... in your mouth and Puerto Ricans? When interviewing they always tell you to say, "I learned a great deal" about jobs you could not stand. This reminds me of that. I also wonder if he apologized after the tape was released or before. Working together for the rest of the shoot means nothing, they were under contract - what sort of work relationship did they have? I'd love for him to be on a set with Streep or someone of that caliber and have him try this. When he gets to Broadway after the film jobs dry up to try and legitimize himself will he go off on people that get up to pee? Cough? Have a sneezing jag? In any event all that matters is that the film does well. Forgive me for saying this but they'd do business with Hitler if his movies made money. Distracting movie stars (he's not an actor - stage credentials please) on a shoot is a mistake, movie stars reaming ass, while satisfying for the star is not justified. Two wrongs don't make a right. We all do it - it's never right.

you know if he hadnt have said so many curse words people wouldnt be blown up about it
i actually agree with him.
hes a passionate actor and takes his work very seriously
so if some guy keeps coming in and ruining his scene for a stupid light he should get pissed
especially since he mentioned it to the guy before hand

all the people who originally called him all these horrible things without knowing the background should be apologizing.
its ridiculous

i loved him before this and i have even more respect for him now after hes apologized
he seems like a genuinely good guy

Say what you will but this was great free publicity for an otherwise very average sounding movie. Lucky Christian, if it works he can ride this wave, arranging to have his outbursts taped and released at critical moments, until he's in Beneath the Planet of the Salivating Terminators Part XVI. I wonder if it was all that Sushi that he eats?

In this American industry more than any other, I think we should only "buy American"! This is a no-brainer. If you want to make a high budget movie about an American Superhero: We need a great American actor. Not an arrogant foriener who has a great way of faking an American accent. Just don't bruise his ego and don't forget to walk on eggshells and NOT on his private set! BUY AMERICAN!

Wow.. there are an incredible amount of complete and utter idiots commenting here.

I find it very interesting how a person just like you or me happens to have a bad day (And he was also right, on top of that), and here come a bunch of self-centered, ignorant, stupid people posting in comments trying to be as nasty as possible to someone they don't personally know who just happens to be an actor.

And quite frankly, no matter what Bale may have done or said here, his apology sounded completly sincere. I lke how people assume that he "never would have apologized had the tape not came out" yet he also states that the incident was already patched up BEFORE that happened. It just proves the ignorance of hateful, ignorant little jerks on the internet that love to get their childish little cheap shots in, despite the fact that they have absoutely no idea what they are talkin about, and who frankly, do not deserve to voice their incredibly mornic "opinion"

Moreover, at least Bale seems to have made the effort to own up to his diatribe. Something that not a single one of you mindless trolls are capapble of even doing yourselves, after passing judgement on an actor that you do not personally know, whatsoever.

Not only that, but to begin with, the DP was in the wrong here, anyway to do what he did, from the very start. Bale overreacted and at least had the decency to admit that, but yet so many of you show zero understanding of this, nor do you exhibit the slightest bit of willingness to understand that.

I find it very irritatingly hypocritical that despite what you may think about Bale's tirade, so many of you sound at least 10 times more hateful and vicious than anything he has said, in your ignorant responses.

Maybe all of you hateful little punks should stop condemning Bale and look in a mirror. He owned up to his behavior, yet none of you can do the same. Pathetic.

Mr. Bale's apology is quite lazy and not enough. How effortless it is to have his handlers and KROQ do all the work in providing him with access to media and all he has to do is say I'm sorry.
Apologizing to the director of photography should only be his first step, because I'm sure, that too, was set up by his handlers and a very tight-knit group of Hollywood insiders.
No, Mr. Bale should contact each member of that film's cast and crew individually, and in person, one at a time, to apologize to them. That means everyone on that cast and crew, from its investors to the person who cleans the toilets.
And he should arrange and set this up entirely on his own. Only then, when he experiences first hand these professionals as real people will he really begin to comprehend what a "punk" he is and was.
I would then go on to say that he needs to apologize to every professional in the film business, but that would be wishful thinking on my part.
He has made us all look bad, and that cannot be forgotten.
Forgiven, yes. Forgotten, not a chance.
His rant is now my ring tone.

I, for one accept Bale's apology - it was sincere and filled with humility and shame. Bale is an intense actor and not a prima-donna. Terminator was filmed under a grueling schedule of 16-18 hr days, 6 days a week - tempers were bound to flair. Remember his own mother and sister were shaking him down for money around this time, he was dealing with the release of Dark Knight and the reminder that one of his co-stars, the brilliant Heath Ledger was not going to share in the accolades and success of an emotional and physically draining movie and masterpiece. Bale should have taken more time off before plunging into Terminator Salvation - but from what I have heard this movie really will make us all understand the intensity and mindset of all those that worked on the set. I wish him well and feel no need to beat him any more than has been done.
