Chris Brown Investigated for Alleged Assault

Chris BrownLaw enforcement sources tell TMZ Chris Brown is being investigated by the LAPD in an alleged assault on a female.

According to police, Brown and a woman whom cops refuse to identify were arguing inside a vehicle around 12:30 this morning when suddenly things allegedly turned violent.

Cops say they received a 911 call, and when they arrived they noticed the woman had visible injuries. We're told she then identified Brown as her attacker. Cops say Brown had left the scene by the time police arrived.

Cops say they are looking to speak with Brown and may arrest him when they find him.

When we called reps for Brown's girlfriend, Rihanna, for a statement, her people told us, "Rihanna is well. Thank you for your concern and support."

UPDATE: Grammy officials have just announced that Rihanna will neither perform on the show tonight -- as scheduled -- nor walk the red carpet for the event. The same announcement has been made about Chris.

48. What I want to know is all the people who say that received calls from the people that work for the hospital and such... I hope everybody realizes that laws are being broken when you release this information and you can lose your job. So I hope its worth it. Just because they are celebrities doesnt mean they dont have the same privacy rights. I bet you wouldn't want everyone to know if you had an STD would you?

55. This is sad. What makes me think it's true is that fact that Chris Brown, if I remember correctly, watched his Mom get beat up constantly by his stepfather. So it's possible. Poor Rihanna. No woman deserves that. I hope all works out for both of them. She needs to get out of the situation if this is in fact true. I don't care what his accomplishments are. All of them are no longer valid once he decides to put his hands on a woman.

56. Shame on any of you who think it OK for anyone to hit any woman no matter the reason. As for the person who says he couldn't do this cause he loves his mother you are deluded and need to grow up. Maybe he learned the behavior from his parents relationship?

60. He assaulted Rhianna. It is no coinsedence that she is not going to the Grammy's and went to the hospital. You people that say that she deserved it should be ashamed of yourselves, no one deserves to be physically assaulted, no matter what. Chris Brown is just a pussy that didn't know how to deal with his insecurity issues. My prayers go out to Rhianna. What would have been a great night for her turned into a nightmare at the hands of a stupid lil boy.
