8 People, 1 Bong Arrested Over Phelps Pot Pic

Michael PhelpsOVERKILL - noun - 1) the amount by which destruction or the capacity for destruction exceeds what is necessary. 2) excessive treatment or action; too much of something.

Eight people connected to that infamous Columbia, SC pot party where Michael Phelps was photographed taking a bong rip back in November have now been arrested by the Richland County Sheriff's Department -- seven for possession and one for dealing.

Included in Sheriff Leon Lott's arrest extravaganza: The suspected owner of the bong -- who wasn't even at the party -- but was allegedly trying to sell the bong on eBay for $100,000, according to WIS.

The bong is reportedly not responding well to Lott's questioning -- and is blaming it on a loss of short-term memory.

Don't worry -- Phelps is still a free man.

46. Think about it. The guy who took the picture(s) will be neccesary to prosecute the alleged criminals. His name will come out and another circus begins.

I thank god every day that I am not famous

47. I say job well done since whoever took the pic and put it out there was being a jerk and hopefully got caught in the sting. I don't approve of drug use, but If you dont' do drugs don't hang out with druggees and and don't snitch unless someone is getting hurt.

48. The whole problem with this...is that people were arrested because of a picture? Since obviously they weren't caught smoking pot during the picture the police have no first hand knowledge of what really happened. This is really screwy.

51. If you don't arrest all these including Phelps then you need to let everyone else off who has been arrested for this. And let's start holding poloticians for the laws they are breaking while in office the whole time too. They should have random drug testing just like any other worker.

52. Stop wasting time and taxpayers money on this and go after some real criminals. legalize weed, release non violent criminals serving time for dealing pot, tax it, save money, make money, eliminate street crime, ...... marijuana is a god given natural medicine, and its exellent for some people. put down the bottle and pick up the pipe.

58. Phelps wasnt arrested becuase they couldnt prove he smoked anything illegal. Yeah they have a picture of him with a bong, but thats not a crime. The picture did not show proof there were any illegal drugs involved. The raid sparked by the picture produced the "drugs". Honestly, I think, or would hope, the sherriff is doing an eye for an eye thing. These people profited off of something that potentially screwed up someones life. Smoking pot shouldn't automatically destroy someones life. Heck, I don't even think it should be illegal...but the people who sold that picture KNEW what was gonna happen to Phelps carreer and I think it's great they're atleast gonna have to waste the profit on fines and lawyer fees. As for Phelps being responsible for their legal fees thats a joke. Had these guys just been cool and not sold the picture none of this would have happened and everyones private life would have stayed PRIVATE.
