Morgan's "Friend" -- He Was Drinking Before Crash

2/25/2009 6:00 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Morgan's FreemanThe woman who was injured in a car crash with Morgan Freeman last year claims the actor was boozing all over town before he got behind the wheel.

According to a lawsuit filed today in Mississippi federal court, Demaris Meyer claims on the night of the crash, she first met up with Freeman at dinner -- where she noticed "throughout the course of dinner and afterward drinks were consumed by Freeman."

Meyer then says she left dinner and met up with Freeman and others at a friend's home. She claims Freeman "had at least one more drink" while there. She claims Freeman then invited her to stay at his home for the night -- guaranteeing her not only her own bedroom, but her "own house." She says she agreed.

Meyer claims at around 11:30 PM, while Freeman drove her to his home, Morgan lost control of the car and "ran off of the right side of the highway." Meyer says she suffered a broken left wrist and right scapula, a torn labrum in her right shoulder and numerous bruises and lacerations.

At a press conference today, Meyer said she and Freeman were "just friends" -- despite widespread rumors that she was his mistress.

Meyer is suing for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, permanent disability (short term memory loss) and additional damages.

He didn't force her into his car. She went willingly, apparently a couple of different times into his car that night, knowing full well he had been drinking. I'd love to know how many drinks she had? Why didn't she take her own car home after she "met up with him", after visiting with friends. Why didn't she just take her own car home?
Pathetic...

Seriously...Gloria Allred has defended some low lifes before, but as fas as I'm concerned she has reached an all time low. I absolutely agree in that this suit makes no sense. You are trying to prove your point in that Morgan Freeman was in fact drunk because you witnessed him consume all this alchohol in various places over a time period of several hours. Then you take him up on an offer to stay at his house, which, still drunk at this point so really...what was really going through your mind?!? At the end of the day when everything is said and done all we will be left with is a lot of time and taxpayers money wasted on this garbage. Friends don't let friends drive drunk...let alone hop in the car with them while they're intoxicated and behind the wheel...so incredibly ignorant!!!

The dumb bitch got in his car on her own free will, knowing he'd been drinking quite a bit.......

Hmmmm. Everyone is so quick to judge. Just a quick guess. Insurance company will not reach a settlement on current and future medical expenses. Loss of current and future medical. Why would Morgan care if she sues him to get to the insurance company because that is who will defend him. His auto insurance carrier. That is what he has insurance for.

No grand conspiracy here.

And yet, she got in the car with him. Perhaps she should sue herself ..for being stupid.

Maybe I am wrong, but I believe she agreed to spend the night at one of the houses on his property as it was closer to her workplace--she had to be at work at 8am--so why did she not take her own car? Why did she leave her car behind and accept a ride with Morgan Freeman, who had been drinking that evening? How would she get to work in the morning?

Why didn't she drive? Or offer to. I am sorry that she was injured but I am not sold on her story.

As soon as I hard Gloria Allred was this woman's lawyer I thought something was amiss. Allred is only interested in smearing celebrities in order for her to get on the news and in the papers. If this woman knew he had too much to drink, she shouldn't have let him drive, let alone gotten in the car with him. I am sure there were plenty of people at the party who would have given Freeman and this woman a ride to his property. I can see if she wants him to pay for what her insurance didn't cover (his insurance should cover these things), but I think she is being a gold-digger. There was no mention of a brain injury, so why is he responsible for her short-term memory loss?

I can't see here where it says it was "her" car they were in but regardless, that is a moot point.

My point is that here in Canada we have a law that basically says if you serve alcohol to person to the point of intoxication and then get into an accident and hurt themselves or someone else, you are equally liable for the injuries. I'm not sure what the laws are in the State where this occurred but I would be interested to know if your State does have a similar law.

If so she could be held legally liable for the accident just as much as Morgan as she had prior knowledge that he was going to commit a crime and failed to report it, when she saw him consuming alcohol and then driving.

Frankly I think her case should be thrown out, and if it is found that Mr Freeman was indeed drunk, the city should file a case against her for the damage to the ditch caused by her failing to report his driving while impaired.

Uh, here's a thought: Don't get in the car with someone that you know has been drinking all night. Honestly, can't anyone take responsibility for their own actions?

So, she knew he was drunk and still got into the car with him. Her stupidity led her to get injured, not his drinking. She should have called a cab for them both.

What an absolutely stupid woman, not to mention a major gold digger. I think it was wrong of him to drink and drive (if that was the case) but she is the idiot who chose to get in the car with someone she knew was drinking prior to driving. Don't they test drivers for drugs and alcohol after they are in an accident? If she was so aware he had been drinking she should have offered to drive, or was she drinking too and wanted him to take the fall if they were pulled over. These people can afford taxis so why don't they take them??!!! I hope she gets NOTHING and has to pay all court costs because she is nothing but a foolish b**ch.

if this woman was dumb enoiugh to get in a car with someone who was under the influence, then let the punishment fit the crime.
