She's Responsible for the "Twilight" Zone

2/25/2009 1:13 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Inspired by a dream she had, Stephenie Meyer only wrote the "Twilight" books, not the nightmare that was the cheesy film adaptation.

The 35-year-old new J.K. Rowling arrived in Vancouver to do some more press for her teen vampire series.

Wonder if awkward closeups, long pauses and bad acting were in her original draft?

In what universe is this woman the new J.K. Rowling?! Even Stephen King said she wasn't a good writer! The Harry Potter characters are mulitdimensional and you see their emotional growth through the series. At the end of the Twilight series, Bella was as clingy as she was in the first book. And for her to practically stop living because some man left her? Please!

This Republican is voting for Obama!

The only reason why JK sold more books than Stephenie is because Harry Potter may appeal more to boys. Twilight may be viewed more as a love story, but the boys are missing out because the series is fantastic. ;)

Yes, HP appeals to boys and girls. JKR has range and talent and can draw in greater audiences, not just preteens and their moms.

Somehow, I knew the adaptation from book to film would be a mess. J.K. Rowling had final say in everything when it came to the Harry Potter films. She knew too many changes would ruin it for the viewers. Apparently Stephanie Meyer didn't do the same thing and the director, etc. did what they wanted with cheesy results.
Comparing "Twightlight" to "Harry Potter" is like comparing diamonds to plain glass anyway.

Hey I'm not a teenager but I thought her book were great! I do wish though that she wrote the books for a more older crowd. I think the movie would have been a lot better. At least they would have had an older crowd for the cast. I love Edward in the movie. Perfect choice! He's absolutly georgous! I do hope they do a lot better on New Moon. And I hope they continue and make movies out of the other two books! I don't care what the writer looks like! She's an awesome writer!! Keep up the good work and please bring us a fantastic New Moon!!!

Just me

I dont even understand how you can compare the two authors material. Completely different books and story lines.
I enjoyed each series very much. Anything that keeps me away from my brainsucking tv!
Anyway, my point is they are both talented authors. If you dont like mushy storylines stay away from Twilight because it is about the angst of teenage love.

The Twilight Saga are the best books i have ever read!!
The movie sucked real bad however, Chris Weitz will do a better job with New Moon.
Robert Pattinson did an AMAZING JOB playing my love Edward Cullen.
Stephenie Meyer is a great author.

The original subject matter was badly-written, cheesy, shallow abstinence porn. The actors did the best with what they were given.

Please! Those books were equally bad - just as the movie. The ideas were good but lacked depth and thus was a literary cop-out. I hoped, hoped that Hollywood would take a seemingly interesting premise and deviate from the book. For once, I would have liked the movie to not be like the book. No such luck!

can we please not compare this hack writer to JK Rowling! no, I'm no Harry Potter fan girl (I actually really disliked the 6th book), but JK Rowling has far more talent than this woman. the first book was barely unreadable, entire chapters full of bad writing (just how many times in one chapter can she state just how beautiful/Adonis like/model-esque/perfect Edward is?). her limited writing ability is well known in the writing world (check out what Stephen King had to say about her) and even critics who reviewed the movie noted the "purple prose" and bad quality writing of the source material.

most of the crazy fans of this saga are immature teenage girls and lonely mothers whose idea of good literature is junk like People magazine and some equally dumb "chick lit" like Confessions of a Shopaholic. these "twilight zoners" claiming the Twilight series to be the best books ever obviously haven't read much, probably never read the BEST vampire book ever, Dracula, never read highly influential and creative young adult fantasy books like Wizard of Earthsea, A Wrinkle in Time, The Golden Compass etc.

don't get me wrong, I know the world needs trivial books like the Twilight series (I'm sure it's a fine beach read) and similar texts, but I hate the fact that this series is so hyped up by idiots whose base of comparison is probably junk found on the shelves and bargain bins of local drugstores. Twilight is nothing more than a glorified Harlequin trash for teens w/ vampires. not quality writing. and Stephanie Meyer will soon be just a flash in the pan, someone even her most vocal fans will be hard pressed to remember years from now when they've discovered quality creative works

if the movie sucked, well, look at the source material and stop placing all the blame on the director. hell, they're probably going to make the movies better than the books in the end (not that hard really)
