Steroids Scandal on "DWTS"?

DWTS ScandalMove over, A-Roid -- Jewel has now taken your place as the face of cheating in pro sports. Alright, it's dancing ... but still.

Jewel took to her blog yesterday to announce she is battling tendonitis in her knee as she prepares for the upcoming season of "Dancing with the Stars." But Jewel, unlike seemingly every baseball player, openly admits she is taking steroids to help her stay healthy. She writes, "Hopefully these steroids will really do the trick and I can keep bad flare ups at a bay in the future."

It is unknown what ABC's policy is on performance-enhancing drugs in reality dance competition shows. Certainly if Jewel should go on to win, "DWTS" purists will call for an asterisk next to her name....

2. It sounds like these are the type of steroids prescribed by a doctor - not the "performance enhancing" drugs taken by athletes.

3. I'm pretty sure she means corticosteriods, which are used to reduce inflammation, not anabolic steroids. This is really a ridiculous offering, TMZ.

4. Medical steroids are completely different than the performance-enhancing steroids sports stars use. Apples and oranges, people! The steroid injections Jewel is getting are a MEDICINE to target inflammation in the knee -- not to bulk her up or give her an advantage. To disqualify her for using this MEDICATION would be similar to barring Cloris Leachman for taking her blood pressure MEDICATION.

5. She is using corticoid steroids, not anabolic steroids. Two very different things.

6. Jewel is taking the drugs for the right reason. These guys who call themselves men, are using these drugs in order to get an edge.

7. There is a difference between ANABOLIC steroids and immune suppressing steroids. Let's get the facts right here.

8. It's CORTISONE. Not anabolic Steroids. Be serious.

9. Could you people be any dumber?? She is referring to steroids that reduce inflammation such as prednisone or dexamethasome....not steroids to pump up her muscles...This is such a non-story. Slow day, TMZ??

10. Jewel is taking medication! She is on steroids for the anti-inflamatory benefits the give! Come on, do a little reading up on Prednisone!

11. Wow, I usually enjoy reading TMZ because it has an edge over the rest of the news sites, but come on!! She is most likely receiving some type of corticosteroid i.e., prednisone or cortisone, which will help decrease the inflammation and swelling associated with the knee problem. Get your facts straight before you accuse people of things you know nothing about. Apparently the medical field is to complex for TMZ.

12. Seriously, TMZ, get a brain. Or at least teach the staff how to google. The corticosteroids that she is taking are medically approved for arhritis and other musculoskeletal problems. It is NOT the same as the junk the pro-ball players use.

Honestly, sometimes you can be so dimwitted.

13. The type of steroids that Jewel would most likely be using for her tendonitis would most likely be topical and not and injectable and would merely sooth the pain in her joints and conditon the joints to allow greater movement and are not considered a performance enhancer because it is not significantly noticable in the blood stream. These types of steroids are common and works like A535.

14. The only "scandal" here is that TMZ is reporting on this!

adding insult to injury,...you added a poll... brush up on your medicine before posting silly articles.

15. Settle down. As Brenda (#2) noted, what Jewel is taking is probably hydrocortisone - no big deal, and totally routine.
