Ed McMahon in ICU -- Pneumonia, Cancer

2/27/2009 9:25 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

ed mcmahon: exclusiveUPDATE: We've just learned Ed is in the ICU and his condition is "extremely serious." As one person close to him put it -- "It's not great, to say the least."

We're told Ed McMahon has been hospitalized for nearly a month with pneumonia, bone cancer and other medical problems.

McMahon's condition is "serious" which is pretty obvious given his age -- 85 -- and the fact he has pneumonia.

We contacted Ed's rep, Howard Bragman, who confirmed the hospitalization and added, "He's not at Cedars-Sinai" -- a dig on the hospital Ed is suing for alleged malpractice and elder abuse.

whose the idiot that thinks Ed is charity case? Ever heard of medicare? It's something you get after 65, no matter who you are. And it's not free he's been paying taxes forever, unlike octomom he's always had a job. Get an education, and have a little respect for your elders. God bless Ed and his family.

cp #4: At least Ed has done something with his life (for the majority of it) unlike OctoMom. At his age he would be on Medicare anyway just like anyone over 65 and the govt. would be paying for 80% of his care anyway. You are a loser.

From Wikipedia:
During World War II, McMahon was trained as a United States Marines fighter pilot and also served as a flight instructor and test pilot. He was discharged in 1946, remaining in the reserves.[3]
After college, McMahon was re-activated into active Marine duty. He was sent to Korea in February 1953. He flew unarmed O-1E Bird Dogs on eighty-five tactical air control and artillery spotting missions. He remained in the Marine reserves, retiring with the rank of Colonel in 1966 and was then commissioned as a Brigadier General in the California Air National Guard.
Several of his ancestors, including the Marquis d'Equilly, also had long and distinguished military careers. Patrice MacMahon, duc de Magenta was a Marshal of armies in France, serving under Napoleon III, and later President. McMahon once asserted to Johnny Carson that mayonnaise was originally named Macmahonnaise in honor of this ancestor, referring to him as the Comte de MacMahon.[4] In his autobiography, McMahon said that it was his father who told him of this relationship and he went on to suggest that he was not certain of the truth of the story.[5]

For that alone, he deserves the govt. to pay his medical more than OctoMom! God bless you, Mr. McMahon! I hope he is not in too much pain. With cancer and pneumonia he may already be in a coma, though. Might be a blessing.

I've worked with Ed numerous times and he is undoubtedly one of the nicest people in this whole backstabbing town. No one desrves what he has endured this year and I wish him nothing but good things ahead. Be well, Ed!!
