Will Brown Be Charged with Beating Rihanna?

3/1/2009 5:23 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Now that Rihanna has apparently decided to forgive Chris Brown for that unfortunate beat down, the burning question is whether Chris will beat the rap.

Rihanna and Chris Brown
Here's the lowdown. We're hearing the case will be turned over to the Los Angeles County D.A. next week, and a decision should be made soon thereafter on whether to file criminal charges against him. The two most likely charges: Making criminal threats and domestic violence.

As for a possible criminal threats charge, we think it's now less likely the D.A. will file because of Rihanna's change of heart. First of all, sources tell us the main reason he was arrested for this is because he allegedly told Rihanna something to the effect of, "I'm going to kill you." It's a terrible thing to say, but lots of people say it in the heat of battle, so it's thin to begin with. Add to that -- Rihanna may well testify she never believed he meant it and the case looks a bit lame.

Domestic violence is a whole other thing. When the jury sees the pictures of a clearly battered Rihanna, it's probably more powerful than any testimony she'd give. In fact, if she were to get on the stand and say she started the fight or somehow deserved it, it would not ring true ... especially because he was hardly the worse for wear when he was busted.

And there's this ... given the picture, it's going to be a tough call not to prosecute Brown.

Finally, we're told more than half of the D.A.'s domestic violence cases involve women who have either recanted their stories or have gotten back together with the alleged abuser.

We think a decision could come down sometime next week.

This is all of TMZ's fault. You all are so desperate to get a story, you probably have blown the case anyway. I hope he does get off free just to show TMZ how tainted they made the entire process. No judge would even allow it after this stupid TMZ put the pic out for the world to see (which includes the jury).

It doesn't matter who he is, what his job is; who she is, or whether or not she forgives him.

Domestic violence is AGAINST THE LAW. We need to stop looking at their names and social status. Believe it or not, letting him off the hook can teach some screwed up guys to think it's OK to do this to a woman, because they could get away with it just like "Chris Brown" did. And as a domestic violence survivor myself growing up, this brings back a lot of memories of my Mom, myself and my siblings being bruised like this. I know how powerful a guy's control can be over someone; I saw my Mom go back every time.

The LA DA needs to use this as a phenomenal example to everyone watching that no one is above the law. Get him, boys. Let's show the world California doesn't put up with this %$@# from anyone.

It doesnt matter if she wants to charge him or not. They will still prosecute him and it could end up on the fence of misdemenor and felony. I dont feel bad for him at all. People like him are the reasons Im a criminal justice major, there is no need to beat a woman.

THE CHILDREN ARE NOT BEING PROPERLY SUPERVISED...PERIOD!

I'm NOT saying what Chris Brown did was right cause it wasn't, but next time you women want to hit/slap a man be ready to suffer to consequences, they will hit you back, some of us women hit.slap very hard, Rhianna started the fight but got the worse of it.

I like them both and hope they'll get pass this mess soon, only if TMZ and the rest of you judgemental abusers leave them alone.

I think he'll get some kind of punishment, but it wont be anywhere near what he deserves.

All of the present buying, anger management and getting back with Riri is just a ploy to try and get back in favour of public opinion. He doesn't want her really, he just doesnt want the skid his career is on to get any bigger. I have news for you Mr Brown, you may have Rihanna so under your spell that she forgives you, but everyone else, that doesnt fall in the teeny bopper catagory, still thinks your a spineless tosser.

Ask another Mr Brown how hard it is to try and re-ignite a career once you've beaten you're celebrity partner.

#83 Said: "but next time you women want to hit/slap a man be ready to suffer to consequences, they will hit you back"

Dont tar all men with the same brush, not all of us would hit you back, some actually have the self control to walk away. We are called "real men"!

He should get the same punishment anyone else would get for the same crime. Quite frankly I am starting to get a little annoyed at how easily some celebrities are getting off with the things they do. I mean its defeating the point of the law thats in place anyway when you let someone get off easy. Im sure everyone else is tired of that too.

And to #83 : That was uncalled for. Im not sure if you remember history or not, but women were abused alot more before the law of a man hitting a woman to get charged came about. Cause ya know back in the 1600s it was okay for a man to slap his wife and get away with it. Common Law didnt even cover that Case Law does. Maybe you do deserve to get slapped if you say a man should hit a woman.

He should be prosecuted, but since they are back together, she will probably choose not to press charges. HORRIBLE role model! Too bad she didn't choose herself over an abuser!

I think it is sad that Rihanna is back with Chris Brown although I'm not surprised. Women who are battered will go through the phase of feeling guilt because they had feelings for the guy and think, become convinced, somehow, was their fault. "If only I hadn't...bla bla, then he wouldn't have been provoked to hit me." If it's true that he has laid a hand on her before (rumored around Christmas, for instance) and now has come out to fully beat her, he will certainly do it again. The picture from today of him with a clinched fist, riding a jet ski, having a great time... is totally disgusting. Rihanna, if you see this, please do not continue a relationship with him. He needs serious anger counseling. No one should put themselves in harm's way once they have knowledge of this kind of behavior. And as a celebrity, Rihanna is sending a horrible message to other women- that getting beaten up is OK. In a sense, as a person who many women look up to, if someone else gets hurt thinking that "if it's ok with Rihanna, I should trust my 'man', " the blood from that beating is also on Rihanna's hands. . Think about it, Rihanna. Set a good example to those girls and women who look up to you, go to your concerts, buy your CDs. Be brave and don't send a message to guys who beat their women that it's perfectly fine to hurt her. Say NO to abuse before it happens again because it will. And each time it happens, the situation gets worse. No person has the right to harm another. Period! You'll be doing Chris Brown a favor if you stop it now, too. Maybe he'll get himself straightened out if he goes through in-depth counseling and anger management and knows that he needs to pay the price for doing what he did. Next time it won't be so "pretty", Think about it.

This is for Rhi Rhi

IF A MAN WANTS YOU
If a man wants you, nothing can keep him away.
If he doesn't want you, nothing can make him stay.
Stop making excuses for a man and his behavior.
Allow your intuition (or spirit) to save you from heartache.
Stop trying to change yourselves for a relationship that's not meant to be.
Slower is better.
Never live your life for a man before you find what makes you truly happy.
If a relationship ends because the man was not treating you as you deserve
then heck no, you can't 'be friends.' A friend wouldn't mistreat a friend.
Don't settle. If you feel like he is stringing you along, then he probably is.
Don't stay because you think 'it will get better.' You'll be mad at yourself
a year later for staying when things are not better.
The only person you can control in a relationship is you.
Avoid men who've got a bunch of children by a bunch of different women.
He didn't marry them when he got them pregnant,
Why would he treat you any differently?
Always have your own set of friends separate from his.
Maintain boundaries in how a guy treats you.
If something bothers you, speak up.
Never let a man know everything. He will use it against you later.
You cannot change a man's behavior. Change comes from within.
Don't EVER make him feel he is more important than you are...even if he has
more education or in a better job. Do not make him into a quasi-god.
He is a man, nothing more nothing less.
Never let a man define who you are.
Never borrow someone else's man.
Oh Lord!? If he cheated with you, he'll cheat on you.
A man will only treat you the way you ALLOW him to treat you.
All men are NOT dogs.
You should not be the one doing all the bending...compromise is a two-way street.
You need time to heal between relationships....................there is nothing cute about
baggage... deal with your issues before pursuing a new relationship
You should never look for someone to COMPLETE you...a relationship consists
of two WHOLE individuals...look for someone complimentary...not supplementary.
Dating is fun...even if he doesn't turn out to be Mr.. Right.
Make him miss you sometimes...when a man always know where you are, and your
always readily available to him- he takes it for granted.
Don't fully commit to a man who doesn't give you everything that you need.
Keep him in your radar but get to know others.
Share this with other ladies..... You'll make someone SMILE, another
RETHINK her choices, and another woman PREPARE.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate
them, a day to love them and an entire lifetime to forget them.

I thought Chris Brown was pretty stupid for beating the crap out of Rhianna, but it's pretty clear that Rhianna's just as dumb. Let's face it, this was bound to happen. She never left him before she while she was taking a beating and no one knew, and now the world knows and she still doesn't want to leave him? Good luck Umbrella Girl, you're going to need it.

May be you can have your own version of PUNK'd on MTV, you'll be the star over every episode. Crazy Ho.
