Chris Brown -- No Plea Yet

3/5/2009 8:47 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Chris Brown and his attorney Mark Geragos did not enter a plea to the two felony charges. In a proceeding that took roughly 4 minutes and 20 seconds, the judge granted Brown's request to move the arraignment to April 6th.

It is unclear why they wanted to postpone the case -- possibly to conduct further investigations or possibly to strike a plea deal. We just don't know...

Based on our information, it seems Brown wants to avoid a trial at all costs because the picture of Rihanna taken one day after the incident -- which has not been seen anywhere publicly -- is unbelievable.

During the proceeding, Brown signed a waiver of presence, allowing his lawyer to act on his behalf -- meaning he won't have to show up to any minor court proceedings before April 6th.

Brown, who stood emotionless in court, spoke only four words to the judge -- "yes," "yes," and "yes ma'am."

After Brown's request to continue the case had been granted, the judge warned Brown, "You are not to annoy, harass, molest, threaten or use force or violence against anyone."

Chris Brown / Rihanna Launch PhotosThe judge asked Rihanna's attorney Donald Etra if there was a "no-contact order" in place, to which Etra replied, "Miss Fenty [Rihanna] does not request such an order."

Etra is famous for repping Snoop Dogg in multiple court cases throughout the years.

Maybe he would get farther if he realizes you refer to the judge as your Honor not Ma'am....I'm just saying....

I think the judge should have put a no contact order in place until April 6 just to be safe. JMO

Maybe they are working on a plea agreement, and the judge didn't want to waste the court's time.

Regarding whatever photos which exist, I think that if Rianna wantsw them to be public, then fine. Otherwise, keep them under confidertial.

The only person in that court room that seems to be taking the situation seriously is the judge!! Somehow Chris Brown will get off on this one. Nice to know that when he's beating the crap out of someone he also bites like some kind of wild animal. All this and he's only 19!! Probably wanted the continuance so he can "fit in" to a few more anger management classes and that'll show the world what a great guy he really is. Hope his career goes into the dumpster because of this!!

Chris you look pathetic. Please remember he stood emotionless in the court room. Which means he feels no remorse for what he did. I hope he gets jail time a lot of jail time! There is never an excuse to lay a hand on any woman.

being a 3rd year law student with a full year experience working in a DA's office in NY on domestic violence, I think the arraignment proceeding was pathetic. First, Rihanna's attorney should not be conversing with Chris Brown's. That attorney should be advocating Rihanna's best interests, which we can all agree do not include communication with Chris Brown. Rihanna's attorney should be standing next to the DA. Second, the temporary order of protection allows for communication between Chris Brown and Rihanna. This is an absolute travesty that the Court would allow interaction between the two before the investigation is over. The interaction is likely to pressure Rihanna into not testifying or cooperating with the DA.
The presentation today proves that much change is needed in the education into domestic violence and the way the Court handles such cases.

"this is Crazy but im glad he continued the case cuz i bet she started it... plus she aint pressing charges or a restaraing order so leave him alone damn

So what you're telling me is that Chris is such a cowardly nancy boy that when a woman 'starts' something with him he is gripped with uncontrollable irrational fear and must defend himself and in fact go on the extreme offensive against someone he could easily flee from?

whatever

Wow amazing that her attorney shook Chris hand and introduced himself tohim in open court like that while in session. But then when it was all over and he asked if Chris had any questions and you heard Chris say he didn't quite understand all what was going on. Then to hear RHIANNA's lawyer say she wants this over with as fast as possible. I know we weren't supposed to hear all that but WOW goes to show we are living in a different world and privacy is a thing of the past. Gone are the days you can have a private conversation with a lawyer.

STFU: I fell out of my chair laughing at that comment. Well said! And for all you other Chris Brown defenders your comments show your ignorance and self worth. I felt sorry for Rihanna at the beginning of this fiasco, but as someone pointed out somewhere the fact that she went back to him, refused a no-contact order and won't press charges sends the message to her young fans that it's okay to get beat! What a damn shame!!!

Hell No, why she is still with him, this is outrageous! They are going to wait a month, get him in somekind of help programs, come back in a month and say, he has been such an angel, and been in anger management, and they will slap his wrist, and in about a year, he'll be in trouble again, because no one took this serious, not even dumb, and sorry to say stupid, no backbone Rihanna.
