Chris Brown Withdraws From Kids' Choice Awards

3/11/2009 2:59 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Chris BrownChris Brown is officially letting Nickelodeon off the hook, and taking himself off the list of nominees at the upcoming Kids' Choice Awards.

In a statement, his rep says:

"Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans and the honor they have paid him in the way of nominations for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song.

Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated.

While Chris would like to speak to his fans directly about this and other issues, pending legal proceedings preclude his doing so at this time. Once the matter before him has been resolved, he intends to do so."

A rep for Nickelodeon tells us: "We are confirming that Chris Brown has decided to withdraw his nominations from the Kids' Choice Awards. We agree with and respect his decision, and are looking forward to presenting a great event for our audience."

Good for you, Chris. You have made a mature decision here. You need to keep your young fans out of this garbage. When the time is right, please address your fans and give your side of the story. These kids don't know what to think right now...

"4. Removing himself is a VERY GOOD choice. His music might be award winning but his behavior is a disaster and does not serve as a positive role model for the young who are greatly influenced by their heros. "

Right on Harriet. This is VERY GOOD news.

Everybody needs to get over this already, get a life and stay out of other peoples personal business. It's really sad that we feel that all we have to do in life is worry about other personal affairs. Everybody makes mistakes and I would love to see the past of everybody on here and see the squeaky clean life they have had. Nobody is perfect and who are we to say that he will do this again or tell Rihanna who she should be with. Stop worrying about other peoples relationships and get some of your own.

Thank goodness there is some sanity in this whole disaster. Brown is NOT in the position to be a role model for kids. He lost that ability when he used Rihanna as a punching bag.

I think that until he was actually convicted of the abuse, he should have been able to be in the award show. I do realize that there is overwhelming evidence that he did indeed do it, but what happened to being innocent until proven guilty? Maybe it was the best interest of Nickelodeon though.

This is to the comment about Rihanna not being a good role model, if these lazy ass parents would get a clue and teach their children right from wrong they would not need to look to people that they don't even know to be their role model. Stop putting your kids in front of t.v. and computers and letting them blog on other peoples business and help them with their homework, and teach them what they need to know and don't depend on celebrities to do your damn job. This is as dumb as people saying that music makes you commit crimes, not having a stable home life make you grow up and commit crimes. Start putting blame where blame is due. These are two young people that have a lot of learning and growing to do, and maybe if you everybody raise their own damn family and let them alone, they will be just fine.
