TapouT Owner Dies in Horrific Ferrari Crash

TMZ has confirmed the owner of the TapouT MMA clothing line died this morning when his ultra-rare $300,000 Ferrari crashed into a light pole, ripping the car in half.

TMZ has learned Charles Lewis Jr. -- aka "Mask" -- was driving his Ferrari Modena in Orange County, Calif. around 1:00 AM this morning when cops say it "left the roadway, hit the curb, took out a light pole."

"Mask" was declared dead at the scene. A female passenger -- who was ejected from the crash -- was taken to a local hospital, but we're told she's in bad shape.

Cops believe "Mask" was racing a guy in a Porsche at the time of the crash, and authorities have since arrested the guy they believe was driving the other car. That man -- Jeffrey David Kirby -- is being held on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter.

UPDATE: A rep for TapouT released this statement: "It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we must regretfully confirm the passing of our beloved friend, brother and co-founder Charles "Mask" Lewis following a car accident that occurred last night. We are currently in the process of setting up a memorial service in his honor and will release more details as they become available. Many thanks to all for the outpouring of blessings and well-wishes during this incredibly difficult time."

451. I'm blown away by the heartless comments made toward Mask. It doesn't suprise me that our GREAT COUNTRY is falling into such depression. Some people have no respect or integrity even in death. It saddens me to be a part of a group comprised of such disgraceful individuals. RIP MASK...GodBless

452. Isnt it amazing that when somthing like this happens you get a bunch of keyborad commandos that like to run their mouth about somthing they know nothing about.

Not one of you PUNKS would have had the guts to stand toe to toe with Mask and run your mouth, but you talk about him when he is dead!!!

Your just like those PUNKS that show up to Protest at the Funerals of Dead Soldiers coming back from Iraq.

RIP MASK

453. All with negative comments, the man was a human being and unique. Whats wrong with being unique? Cause he made a career and legacy out of bein an bad ass, as most of you seem to think. At least he made it that far. NO ONE DESERVES TO DIE!!!!!! Whether you choose to be nice or an ass hole. You can't please everyone. Sorry he's gone. Maybe cause I'm a bad ass also. Hope you don't want me to die in a car accident. REST IN PEACE BRO!!!!!

454. All of you that have something bad to say about the MASK need to keep there comment to themselfs. Do any of you have any respect? Regardless of what he was doing or not doing is really not the point. The man died and he desevers better. I watched the show with my kids and they loved him and loved what he was. He had a heart of gold and would take the shirt off his back to help anyone because that is the type of person he was. Mask RIP.... The fans that really love you and know what you were about is the only ones anyone needs to be listening too...I loved you....

458. ITS REALLY SAD TO KNOW THAT HE PASSED. THE DECISION HE MADE WAS NOT SMART, THEREFORE HE PAYED THE ULTIMATE CONSEQUENCE. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY. SOME PEOPLE MAY THINK HES AN ASS BUT THATS PART OF WHAT HE HAD TO DO TO MOTIVATE HIS FIGHTERS. HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING AND HAD ALOT OF SUCCESS. SUCKS JUST TO KNOW HE DIED LIKE THAT.

459. The Porsche driver has to be charged with that because he was engaged in a dangerous illegal activity and someone died as a result. He should suffer the consequences of his actions and those consequences were extreme (the death of a human being). How else will you send the message to racers that they could be punished to an extent serious enough to fit the consequences?

If no one had died, he should be charged with racing and reckless driving or whatever. But when someone DIES, he's gotta be charged with something different.

What if the Porsche driver had killed a woman pushing a stroller? Should Mask not have been charged with vehicular manslaughter along with the Porsche driver?

What makes the porsche driver guilty of vehicular manslaughter is not that he was racing. It's that somebody died because he was racing...

460. I have several thoughts on MASK's death- I am going to attempt to post a more useful comment than "MASK is a douche" or whatever else the knuckleheads are posting:

#1- Anytime someone dies, it is a tragedy. Saying bad stuff about a dead person is horrible. How would you like people you didn't know saying bad stuff about you after you are gone?

#2- I wasn't really into Tapout- I'd rather watch Faber kick some butt in the ring than the Tapout show. However, I do recognize (a little too late, now) how much of an influence Lewis and Tapout had on the fighting industry. Kudos to him for pursuing his dream. I to have started a business so I know how hard it is to follow your dream and stick with it thru thick & thin. Lewis should be commended for that and for serving in the US military, if he did in fact serve as a Marine.

#3- I too am guilty of driving too fast, in the past. Married now, can't take any more chances like that. So I can't badmouth the guy for being able to afford a Ferrari and driving a little too fast. I'd probably do the same, but now I think I'd try to keep that sort of thing on the track. I could not live with myself if my bad driving hurt ofrkilled someone. Ferraris are supposed to be driven hard, but on the track, by skilled drivers. For the most part they are known as a little touchy and difficult to drive. The company is a racing company after all. They make road cars simply to be able to afford to go racing each season. Look it up.

#4- I do appreciate the nice comments by the people who claim to have known MASK. From what those people are saying, the guy was a very nice guy and helpful and warm. I wouldn't know, I've never met the guy. But supposedly he's cool. I do, however, find it very interesting that none of those people DENIED that MASK would drive too fast on a public road. No one ever said "Oh hey MASK was really cool, I knew him personally, and he would NEVER speed in his Ferrari and risk hurting anyone". What's up with that? You have to look at the situation- Ferrari and Porsche involved in fatal crash- and your natural assumption would be that the 2 drivers were racing and lost control. I suppose we won't know till they finish the investigation.

Anyway, my main point is that it sucks that this guy died. But did he die because a moment of bad judgement? Perhaps. I just wish he had excersized better judgement when he started up that Ferrari. Life is short, no point in making it shorter for yourself.
