Details of Natasha Richardson's Ski Accident

3/17/2009 1:31 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

natasha richardsonWe now know what happened to Natasha Richardson on the ski slope when she was critically hurt yesterday, suffering a brain injury.

We're told she was having a private lesson on a green slope (beginner) at a ski resort in Quebec, Canada. She fell -- we're not sure why. There was no blood and no sign of impact. Two ski patrollers came to her rescue. When they got there she was conscious -- smiling and making jokes.

An hour later, Natasha started to complain of a headache and said she didn't feel well. Someone from the resort called 911, and she was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Natasha was conscious when she left the resort.

Yesterday's news, folks. That no talent was so loaded with green cheese that Frito-Lay could air-lift her hefty crotch to a local hospital! And we aren't talking avocado dip, that sick, effing whore!

Dear FactChecker...in regards to your snarky comment "how does that translate to a serious brain injury"...any injury that involves the brain is deemed to be "serious" in nature, and will be treated by medical professionals as such. my own father died as a result of a subdural hematoma, with uncontrollable bleeding in the brain. If a minor brain injury is not detected and treated with haste, it will become serious and eventually fatal. Therefore, should you fall and hit your silly little head, be aware of signs of brain injury - nausea, slurring of words, headache, dilated pupils. Any of these signs, and you must get to a hospital immediately.

"How does that translate into a serious brain injury? " Whiplash can tear an artery, leading to a clot, leading to a stroke. A relatively minor impact can rupture an aneurysm leading to a brain bleed which leads to excessive pressure in the skull which leads to destruction of brain tissue.

Dear, TELAWYER.

Perhaps you've recently suffered some craneal impact yourself, as you seem to be reading with double-vision.
You interpreted snarky for literal.
The report indicated she fell unaccountably with no signs of impact. One conclusion is that the injury was pre-existing and not caused by a ski fall. The headline, therefore, could be construed as misleading.
Good luck with your next case.

Happened to a kid around my neighborhood. Fell off the back of a pick-up. Hit his head, but he looked/acted fine. Later that night at the dinner table he complained of his head hurting. Family took him to the hospital where he later died.

Wow

Could this have been an aneurysm? Or maybe some other pre-existing condition?

The POINT is, Skully, we DON'T KNOW if the injury was caused by a FALL yet. It could have been a latent, pre-existing condition. So have a seat and take a hold of yourself - we don't want another tragedy on our hands.

Perez Hilton is reporting that she has passed away. Hopefully, it's not true. So, so sad for her husband and children.
