Natasha Richardson Flown to New Hospital

Natasha RichardsonUPDATE 2:00 PM ET -- The hospital tells TMZ Richardson is sedated and suffering from brain swelling -- but, contrary to some reports, is not brain dead. We can't confirm the accuracy of the hospital's statements, or the other reports circulating the web -- fact is, right now we just don't know.

UPDATE: 1:37 PM ET -- We're told Richardson's jet was scheduled to take off from Montreal-Trudeau Airport. A rep for the airport said the jet is either still there or has just taken off.

We're told Natasha Richardson has been transported from the hospital in Canada via ambulance. CTV says she boarded a private jet -- we do not know where the jet has gone, but we believe it's New York City.

Richardson was accompanied by a medic team for the flight.

273. Think about it for a second. They would no way in hell fly her on a plane if she was suffering brain swelling, she would still be in Canada. I am thinking that she had to have been brain dead before they flew her, no doctor in his right mind would have put her on a plane otherwise. She was most likely still alive when she flew to New York, I think they were just keeping her on support so that her family could say their goodbyes. This is such a sad sad loss.

274. I truly hope that Natasha Richardson will recover quickly, fully, and live a full life. My thoughts are with her LIam (he seems like such a good, humble actor) her boys, and family.

I've heard of serious accidents occurring higher up on the slopes with reckless boarders/skiers (like playing football on skis or skiing too fast and hitting trees), but who'd ever think this could happen on the bunny hill during a lesson? But then again, the Northeast is notorious for very icy mountains. Especially in the spring, when the sun bakes the snow to make solid ice. And even on the flats, if you gain a lot of speed and don't know how to slow down/stop, catch an edge and fall, you can smack your head pretty hard on that ice. Even the Western Whislter/Blackcomb mountains were icy last weekend with no new snow.

Incidents like this remind me we never know what kind of curve balls cross our paths in life, and though it's cliche, to not take life for granted. We're alive so we may as well live happily and compassionately. Otherwise, it's not worth our time....- peace :).

275. Could it be that everyone's jumping to conclusions because some doctors mentioned the "talk and die" issue? I hope so.

It sucks that bad things always happen to good people.

Why can't this happen to someone like Madoff, an AIG exec? Then we can move on and say "next" without blinking.

276. Sympathy to the family but I withhold some for her until the facts are straight, was she wearing a helmet or not? It is mandatory at many of the places so it may be a case of vanity thy name is head injury. I am glad the family flew her to the states if for nothing else for goodbyes but brain injuries are mutants and it is amazing what can be done now vs 10yrs ago. I do also hope she has a living will or a Dr. willing to work with the family if it becomes a quality of life issue.

277. The NY Post is reporting that Natasha Richardson has regained consciousness and is responding to simple commands. Husband Liam Neeson was allowed one last conjugal visit with her brain-dead corpse yesterday evening, which family and friends report went very well indeed. Shortly thereafter, Richardson's dead body stirred to life and asked for a cigarette.

283. It's sad that she is dead. But it shows that safety should always be aheard to (she didn't wear a helmut!).

Maybe she should have seen a doctor fast like the ski patrol told her and requested. Maybe then this death may not have occured.
