Natasha Richardson Flown to New Hospital

Natasha RichardsonUPDATE 2:00 PM ET -- The hospital tells TMZ Richardson is sedated and suffering from brain swelling -- but, contrary to some reports, is not brain dead. We can't confirm the accuracy of the hospital's statements, or the other reports circulating the web -- fact is, right now we just don't know.

UPDATE: 1:37 PM ET -- We're told Richardson's jet was scheduled to take off from Montreal-Trudeau Airport. A rep for the airport said the jet is either still there or has just taken off.

We're told Natasha Richardson has been transported from the hospital in Canada via ambulance. CTV says she boarded a private jet -- we do not know where the jet has gone, but we believe it's New York City.

Richardson was accompanied by a medic team for the flight.

31. I grew up in a rural area and people with head injuries were always flown to larger hospitals. If the person is stable, they should be fine to transport.

32. There are conflicting reports and the source Perez sited has pulled the original article, so while it may be true take this talk of her definitely being dead with a grain of salt until it's official.

33. Just for info, if she was one a plane, it was a Lifeflight type of plane, which is basically a flying Intensive Care Unit-and that isn't an exaggeration! I know because I worked on an Advanced Life Support ground ambo (very rare) and many of our patients were taken off planes on full life support. TMZ just managed to state it in a very confusing way. Surprised..?

43. Here's the latest...According to multiple reports, actress Natasha Richardson is being airlifted to a new hospital and is still alive.

Time Out New York is reporting, however, that the actress is "brain dead" and will not survive.

Monday afternoon, Lindsay Kaplan of Time Out New York sent out the following press release:

http://www3.timeoutny.com/newyork/upstaged/2009/03/rip-natasha-richardson-1963-2009/

EXCLUSIVE: Time Out New York learns of actress's untimely death. She will be greatly missed.

Last night it was reported that the actor Natasha Richardson had critically injured her head in a skiing accident at the Mont Tremblant resort outside of Montreal, Canada. Although public reports have not yet confirmed it, sources close to Richardson’s family and friends say they have already been told the awful news: She did not survived the accident.
This precipitate loss is a terrible one. Richardson was only 45 and had two adolescent sons; our thoughts go to them and to her husband, the actor Liam Neeson. The theater world, too, is bereft by her departure. Richardson has been the most verdant new branch of one of the great English theatrical family trees: the child of Vanessa Redgrave and the late Tony Richardson, the niece of Lynn Redgrave and Corin Redgrave, granddaughter of Michael Redgrave. She has pursued the family business with uncommon class and distinction. On Broadway—in Anna Christie, Closer, A Streetcar Named Desire and especially in her Tony-winning turn as Sally Bowles in Cabaret—her work has been elegant, smart and forceful. She will be missed.
Shakespeare’s words from Cymbeline cascade to mind:
Fear no more the heat o’ the sun Nor the furious winter’s rages; Thou thy worldly task hast done Home art gone, and ta’en thy wages; Golden lads and girls all must As chimney-sweepers, come to dust.

As they were the only ones reporting this, PerezHilton.com emailed Time Out New York asking, "This is 100% true????"

Lindsay Kaplan wrote us back, saying, "Unfortunately, confirmed to us by friends of the family. Terrible news. I used to be their boys' camp counselor."

After more than 40 minutes, Time Out New York emailed us again to clarify, saying:

Okay —

Sorry about the confusion. We spoke to source, who confirms "brain dead and will not survive", and therefore, her friends and family are mourning her unofficial death.

My apologies with the semantics issue.

Please let me know if you have more questions — I have copied Michael Freidson, TONY's editor in chief.

Semantics issues?????

Lindsay Kaplan and Micael Freidson should be ashamed at their irresponsible journalism! Especially with something SO serious!
