Bush Would Have Been Skewered for Obama Joke

3/20/2009 12:50 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

President Barack Obama made fun of the handicapped last night on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." He was making a joke about his bad bowling skills, but here's the question: If George W. Bush had said the same thing, would people be lashing out more? If so, why?

By the way, Kolan McConiughey, a Special Olympics competitor from Michigan, has bowled three perfect games of 300. Yes he can!

UPDATE -- The Special Olympics has released this statement.

Is anyone shocked by this? Most in the media hated Bush with a passion that was way over the top. Nobody covered Obama messing up reading his precious teleprompter the other day with the Irish prime minister. If it had been Bush it would have been on some youtube remix with 10 million views. . Of course not, only Bush was human enough to mess up on his lines. Obama is a god, right? Thank the real God for fox news.

Being the president he needs to watch what he says! The media is always watching his every move so if he meant it or not he shouldn't says things like that.

I am conservative. That show he wanted to have some fun in Hollywood instead of fix the economic. in Washington. He is not doing good job for the America people. Glad I didn't vote for him.

Mia....can you honestly say that the media has ever been fair and balanced concerning Obama? No, he has had a free ride from day one...wonder why?! He has been handled with kid gloves and if you're truly honest with yourself, you'll recognize that fact! Some of us are sick of the double standard!

Mountains out of molehills

As a caretaker of an autistic child, I am deeply offended by this. Obama needs to buy a clue.

Thank you for noticing this, TMZ. Ususally the media ignores gaffes by liberals. They portrayed Bush, who had a Yale MBA as a dunce. They never seem to call the democrats on wrong behavior. Obama could let every terrorist out of prison, make fun of the handicapped, and destroy our monetary system, and many would not care, just because he is a leftist. It will be interesting how much airtime this gets. If it were Bush they would be calling for his resignation. Without a teleprompter this guy is a loose cannon.

Ted D

As I was minding my own business yesterday, Obama's helicopter entourage flew directly over my house in Los Angeles. The helicopters literally rattled my windows since all 5 were about only about 150 feet in the air, just South of the 10 freeway. The first two choppers flew over and then about 1 minute later the other 3 came appreciation for his rudeness. Obama, stop spending millions of our dollars flying around and acting like a celebrity...YOU ARE NOT special Mr. President! You were elected because you are black not because you have any special talents or skills. Obama is destroying our world and it is evident to anyone who has any intelligence. Say goodbye to the United States of America.

NY Mom

I'm sorry, I thought he was elected to be President, NOT a celebrity. This country is in serious trouble, and he's making an appearance on the Tonight Show? There's a reason no other President has done that, they knew their job was to lead a country, not crack jokes with Jay Leno. What he said is offensive, period. If someone else were to say that, the media would be all over them. Jackie Mason used a word that in Yiddish means the color black, and had NOTHING to do with race. But this moron can say whatever he wants? He should should shut his mouth and get back to Washington where he belongs, and start getting this country back on track. Let's see.......going soft on terrorists, leading the country to socialism, handing over billions to the fat rats who have put us in this mess, insulting disabled citizens. Boy. Aren't we lucky to have him running the show. What's coming in ACT II? Can't wait.

I like the that people are offended by this, I mean I bet most everyone has said something along these lines or worse in their personal life so who gives a shizz.

No we expected Bush to say stupid thing like that. It's shocking for Obama to make such a faux pas. I hear he apologized, as he should. Now let it drop and let him get back to work.

3 Men who brought down Wall Street...

Be sure to read the 'where they are now'!

Here is a quick look into 3 former Fannie Mae
executives who have brought down Wall Street.

1. Franklin Raines: was a Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer at Fannie Mae. Raines was forced to retire
from his position with Fannie Mae when auditing
discovered severe irregularities in Fannie Mae's
accounting activities. At the time of his departure
The Wall Street Journal noted, 'Raines, who long
defended the company's accounting despite mounting
evidence that it wasn't proper, issued a statement
late Tuesday conceding that 'mistakes were made' and
saying he would assume responsibility as he had
earlier promised. News reports indicate the company
was under growing pressure from regulators to shake up
its management in the wake of findings that the
company's books ran afoul of generally accepted
accounting principles for four years.' Fannie Mae had
to reduce its surplus by $9 billion.

Raines left with a 'golden parachute valued at $240
Million in benefits. The Government filed suit against
Raines when the depth of the accounting scandal became
The Government noted, 'The 101 charges reveal how the
individuals improperly manipulated earnings to
maximize their bonuses, while knowingly neglecting
accounting systems and internal controls, misapplying
over twenty accounting
principles and misleading the regulator and the
public. The Notice explains how they submitted six
years of misleading and inaccurate accounting
statements and inaccurate capital reports that enabled
them to grow Fannie Mae in an unsafe and unsound
manner.' These charges were made in 2006. The Court
ordered Raines to return $50 million dollars he
received in bonuses based on the mis-stated Fannie Mae

2. Tim Howard: was the Chief Financial Officer of
Fannie Mae. Howard 'was a strong internal proponent of
using accounting strategies that would ensure a
'stable pattern of earnings' at Fannie. In everyday
English - he was cooking the books. The Government
Investigation determined that, 'Chief Financial
Officer, Tim Howard, failed to provide adequate
oversight to key control and reporting functions
within Fannie Mae.'

On June 16, 2006, Rep. Richard Baker, R-La, asked the
Justice Department to investigate his allegations that
two former Fannie Mae executives lied to Congress in
October 2004 when they denied manipulating the
mortgage-finance giant's income statement to achieve
management pay bonuses. Investigations by federal
regulators and the company's board of directors since
concluded that management did manipulate 1998 earnings
to trigger bonuses. Raines and Howard resigned under
in late 2004.

Howard's Golden Parachute was estimated at $20

3. Jim Johnson: a former executive at Lehman Brothers
and who was later forced from his position as Fannie
Mae CEO. A look at the Office of Federal Housing
Enterprise Oversight's May 2006 report on
mismanagement and
corruption inside Fannie Mae, and you'll see some
interesting things about Johnson. Investigators found
that Fannie Mae had hidden a substantial amount of
Johnson's 1998 compensation from the public, reporting
that it was between $6 million and $7 million when it
fact it was $21 million.'
Johnson is currently under investigation for taking
illegal loans from Countrywide while serving as CEO of
Fannie Mae.

Johnson's Golden Parachute was estimated at $28

1. FRANKLIN RAINES? Raines works for the Obama
Campaign as Chief Economic

2. TIM HOWARD? Howard is also a Chief Economic Advisor
to Obama.

3. JIM JOHNSON? Johnson hired as a Senior Obama
Finance Advisor and was selected to run Obama's Vice
Presidential Search Committee.

Would you trust the men who tore Wall Street down to
build the New Wall Street?

If Bush made these comments, the liberal media would of made it headline news for a week!!!

Why do I get the idea that all the people condemning Obama for this are Republicans with an axe to grind.
How can you all sit there and still stand by Bush... the ONLY President to ever by ridiculed for his stupidity.
In my mind voting for Bush was like voting for Quayle. They were both idiots... unfortunately for this country
Bush stole his presidency and systematically nearly ran it into the ground like every single business he's ever
been at the helm on.

Sure, it was probably a little over the top to make this particular comment, but it wasn't with intent to do harm.
We are not talking about a Lisa Lampanelli comment/joke here. It's all about the intent.
