John 3:16 -- 86'd from Final 4

3/23/2009 10:21 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Some religious dude brought one of those "John 3:16" signs to the Siena vs. Ohio State NCAA Tournament basketball game the other night -- but as soon as he put the sign up, some random security guard rushed in for the steal and ripped it down.

FYI -- Siena happens to be a private Catholic school. Apparently Jesus isn't allowed to attend away games.

Frag the paps, You are a dangerous person if you think you have the right to itimidate someone in their freedom of expression. I won't let anyone tell me what I can and cannot say! Freedom from religion you moron means you don't have to agree and practice another persons religion. YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO CENSOR OR SILENCE THEM!!!! EVER!!!!!! Take a long hard look again at the Constitution. YOU don't get to decide what is personal or appropriate for public consumption.

Christians-the only group that you can persecute. What country are we living in again? What about The Bill of Rights? He cannot hold up a sign, but I have to see towel heads everywhere I go. Why should I have to tolerate that?

Thank you, Frag. I completely agree:

Freedom of Religeon is also freedom FROM religeon. Would anyone be a big fan if I sat in the crowd with a big sign that says there is no god and you are all stupid for believing a fairy tale? Peoples personal beliefs should be just that....personal. Keep it to yourself and nobody gets offended. It's when people say my god is better than your god that we get planes flying in to buildings.

I think the guy should have been able to show his sign -- just as long I can attend his church and wave around "Go Ohio State" signs during the service. Seems like a fair trade.

The Bible is a highly edited, confused mishmash of political manipulations by sloppy, desperate storytellers, directed at stupid, gullible people, all between groups of fighting desert tribal tricksters in very primitive times. You can't take any of those writers seriously.

The Romans were wiping out all sorts of cultural diversity and if Jesus did ever exist, clearly the only thing he wanted to do was get the "David" bloodline back in power and kick the Romans out. But for someone so famous and such a revolution starter, funny that there was no mention of him by anyone else at the time! Gee, because he's a myth for rebels to be inspired and united by, created after 70AD by people planning a rebellion against the Romans?

100% of everything Jesus supposedly said and did is completely borrowed from older, different cultures, particularly the Egyptian stories of Horus, Isis and Osirus. Much of his teachings were very Buddhist in nature, not Jewish and once you know that material, you know the writers of the gospels were VERY inexperienced with those other cultures and subsequently VERY sloppy and created many mistakes and much confusion. Thinking capacity of the target audience was expected to be very low, obviously.

None of the gospels were written by those involved in the stories and none were written within 30 years of those days except for the Gospel of Thomas, which came first in the sequence, by maybe some very angry person with leadership skills AND a good imagination. Interesting that after Jerusalum fell to the Romans in 70AD, all these gospels start showing up. Of course it's all political brochure material, all fiction. Around the world about the time of 1AD, there were many other healthy cultures who knew the difference between mythology and reality, unlike those reading "gospels". The people writing the gospels knew it was fiction.

The only question is, what was the value of the myths to the other, older cultures? Forget the middle east, anything they had they got second-hand. Head off to Egypt, India, China and especially northwest Europe, where you find the origins of much healthier, much older, much more intelligent, well-meaning and advanced cultures.

EVERYONE has a right!! EVERYONE!! Why is it that the only people who have a right to speak anything about religion, the only ones who have a right to complain, are the ones who don't believe? I don't understand that, I never will.

IT DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT WAS ON THE SIGN. I WAS AT THE GAME AND YOU WEREN'T ALLOWED TO HAVE SIGNS. THATS IT PLAN AND SIMPLE NO SIGNS ALLOWED!!!

While I do not condone signs at games, jerking the sign away in that manner constitutes battery and theft under the laws of almost every state in the USA without question. Legally, the guard can ask for the sign OR demand the sign else the person be ejected from the game, but snatching it away in such a manner is in fact a criminal offense. This fan should be seeking legal counsel as the guard, the service the guard worked for, as well as the arena itself would be liable in this case which is legally speaking a cinch to win.
