Fans to Ringo: We're Looking Through You

4/4/2009 4:57 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Rock 'n' roll rule #1: Drummers get no love.

The Beatles: Click to watch!
Ringo Starr got a painful reminder of that outside Radio City Musical Hall on Friday night. It was near silence for Ringo's exit, and just a few minutes later -- Beatlemania-revisited for Paul McCartney's.

The two living Beatles were rehearsing for tonight's benefit concert where, guess who, is the headliner.

someone saying ringo has no talent is maybe the only thing that makes me laugh harder than people saying they think paris hilton is ugly.

from wikipedia...
Lennon said of Starr:
“ Ringo was a star in his own right in Liverpool before we even met. Ringo was a professional drummer who sang and performed and was in one of the top groups in Britain [Rory Storm and the Hurricanes] but especially in Liverpool. ... Ringo's a damn good drummer.

Drummer Steve Smith said:
“ Before Ringo, drum stars were measured by their soloing ability and virtuosity. Ringo's popularity brought forth a new paradigm in how the public saw drummers. We started to see the drummer as an equal participant in the compositional aspect. One of Ringo's great qualities was that he composed unique, stylistic drum parts for The Beatles songs. His parts are so signature to the songs that you can listen to a Ringo drum part without the rest of the music and still identify the song

Many drummers list Starr as an influence, including Dave Grohl of Nirvana/Foo Fighters, Orri Páll Dýrason of Sigur Rós,[27] Max Weinberg of the E Street Band, Danny Carey of Tool, Liberty DeVitto of Billy Joel's band, Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden, Eric Carr of Kiss, Phil Rudd of AC/DC, Phil Collins, Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater and others.[28] According to Collins, "Starr is vastly underrated. The drum fills on the song "A Day in the Life" are very complex things. You could take a great drummer today and say, 'I want it like that.' He wouldn't know what to do."[

and for the person who said his singing was painful to hear..... i'd rather listen to him sing yellow submarine, with a little help from my friends, or photograph over anything sung by anyone who has ever been on american idol.

Paul is more gracious and charming in interviews. Ringo can be a bit big headed and arrogant.

My first comment got rejected. Wish I could really write what I want you to see.
Victoria I really believe you interviewed Ringo. Or more believably your imaginary friend in the mirror. Really you did.
Oh, Yoko if you buy into this parasite's fairy tales tell me what song she's written and sung that has had any remote appeal to the masses the way Paul McCartney's music has.
And Elm Street Coach you need to learn that what you wish upon others should be visited upon you. In due time you sick turd.

Well, I LOVE the 'Silver Beatles' and I grew-up 'hangin onto the coattails' of all of that mid-60s 'British Invasion' stuff...and they DID change the planet, didn’t they...from '64 to '66??? But when JIMI showed-up in Oct '66 he blew them ALL away, didn't he? - and to this day - he continues to, doesn't he?? - #1 Guitar -Player of ALL time??? Repeatedly... JIMI’s been ‘dead’ for what? 39 years now??? Hmmmnnn,...
With ONLY the finest regardsssssss, and with only the upmost of RESPECT... but the TRUE 'talented' Beatles are, sadly gone, aren't they??? The ones with ‘the most in the pouch?’ Very Sad, but oh, so, painfully, true... Paul might as well have died back then, like they conjured that he did, w/Abbey Road and the bare feet and all that bs... And Ringo? Well, he's a drummer for what 60+ yrs now...and still a nobody... ‘nuff said? THE GOOD DIE YOUNG...

Glad to see so many glowing reports of Ringo and what a wonderful person he is - I'll take everyone at their word. But the impression I've gotten, just from seeing how he interacts with his fans, is not a very positive one. Glad many of you set me straight. Frankly, if I ever saw Ringo and Paul on opposite sides of the street, I doubt I'd go to either one.

ive always hated paul too. he was the no-talent pretty boy one. i never thought i'd be agreeing with yoko ono on anything ever because ive never wanted to destroy a fantastic band or isolate and deteriorate a lead singer but... yeah paul mccartney just always wrote "fun, sun, run, done, love, from above" kind of rhyming lyrics that are shallow and sophomoric and can still be found to this day in early britney spears album ballads. bleah!

oh and i hope toofastforyou! finally dropped dead from kindney failure from sitting in front of the computer refusing to move to go to the bathroom for days on end because they so desperately needed to be first on every post for some reason. im going to take an educated guess and say that toofastforyou! is probably a woman between the ages of 35 and 50 who hasn't been on a date that wasn't over the internet since about 5 years before the sanitation strike... or just an 11 year old. either way i hope you die. really. i really just hope you die. you are why other countries love to bomb the crap out of us. because we live in such decadence that somebody can just sit around their entire life with nothing better to do than to make it their life's work to be first on every comment page... osama, just get it over with i totally understand dude! allah jihad indeed!

19. Paul is more gracious and charming in interviews. Ringo can be a bit big headed and arrogant. Posted at 8:03PM on Apr 4th 2009 by laura

Didn't he pull a stunt here several months ago, lecturing his fans about not writing him anymore and that everything received after a particular date, would be unanswered and tossed out? Seems he was tired of answering fan mail or tired of the attention.

Seems like he forgot that it was his fans that put him where he is today - rich and famous.

Thought he was being a ungrateful, spoiled a$$hat. You can't lecture your fans like that just because they want to send you fan mail. If you don't want to answer it, then hire that task out and have someone else do it.

It wasn't necessary to be hateful like that.

I think people just don't recognize Ringo, though he's had the beard for 30 years! Paul looks almost the same as he did back in 'the day' so I think that is what it's all about. As for comparing The Beatles to The Jonas brothers? Every generation compares someone to The Beatles! IN the 70's it was The Bay City Rollers, in the 80's it was Duran Duran, in the 90's it was a tie between N'Sync and Backstreet Boys. NONE of them ever changed the world the way The Beatles did. Sorry for those who don't get it.

Oh whatever. Ringo is far better looking at this stage in their lives.
