Celebrity Justice
Rob Lowe Spanks the Nanny in Court

Rob LoweRob Lowe just won a huge victory in his bitter lawsuit against his former nanny -- and it's a decision that will have a big impact behind closed doors in Hollywood.

Lowe sued Laura Boyce for allegedly violating the confidentiality agreement she signed, by blabbing all over town that the Lowes did horrible things around her. Lowe claims Boyce was telling people his wife, Sheryl, did things like walk around naked in front of the nanny and comment about the penis size of the nanny's boyfriend -- claims the Lowes deny.

In a stunning decision yesterday, the judge in the case rejected Boyce's claim that the confidentiality agreement was invalid, on grounds it violated her freedom of speech rights.

The judge has effectively told a bunch of celebrities it's still safe to hire help and make them sign agreements that they won't spill secrets for fun or financial gain.

31. I fail to see what the Lowe's have done wrong. Does the contract say that his wife WILL NOT walk around the house naked? On what grounds does the nanny place blame on the Lowes? The nanny signed a contract and then willfully went about breaking said contract. She didn't have any grounds to sue.

32. I agree with the Judge's ruling and with comment #17. Working for celebrities or non-celeb as a nanny has it's ethics just like all other profession. Being a nanny is no different from being a nurse in a hospital or other facility. Privacy/confidentiality is at stake. At this day and age, a trustworthy nanny or nurse is a treasure. That's why they make you sign an agreement unlike before when intergity is valued highly. Of course, they will use everything they can out of their experience working for a celebrity or any celebrity to make money. Why not? Everybody needs money. But, at stake is their integrity, trustworthiness, self-esteem (if they have) and their job. Like what comment #17 said, she should have left and work for another. Was there greed involved? Because I don't see why nakedness of your employer should be used. It's not a public place, it's their house. So where is abuse or sexual harassment there? They trust you. Doesn't it make you feel good that you are trusted? Of course you can sue. Why not. But for wrong motives or no motive at all, THE JUDGE'S RULING IS WHAT YOU GET. ACCEPT IT, DEAL WITH IT AND FIND A NEW NANNY JOB AGAIN IF YOU CAN. BUT...EMPLOYERS, BEWARE!!!

33. What? People can't walk around their own houses naked now? And how would Lowe's wife know anything about the size of the nannies boyfriends penis? Sounds like the nanny was the one who brought up that subject. This is all stupid, I'm glad Lowe won his case, he's already been set up enough in his lifetime.

34. You go Rob! When I lived and worked in Dayton Ohio, Rob's father was my attorney. Chuck and his family are the greatest people, and even though Rob had his share of problems early on, he's turned out to be a fine young man, a very good actor and a good human being. Anyone who say's any diffferent just doesn't have a clue to what they are talking about. There is just too much BS in this world about others. If you can't say something nice, don't open your stupid mouth! I should be so lucky my boys grow up to be half the man Rob is!

35. Wow, #6 that is really well articulated. Perhaps Gloria Allred is too busy with her media appearances to draft a proper complaint.

This would be the same position re: liability clauses in business contracts. A liability clause does not permit someone to be professionally negligent.

36. Well......the judge may have ruled, and he may have won - but isn't the damage already done? Even if the allegations are false - they're still "out there" and this would be true for everyone. The claims may be false, but it's like accusing someone of rape - they may be innocent, but the stigma remains.

37. This woman is just a gold digger, looking for some way to make a quick buck. If she didn't like the way she was being treated, which I am sure didn't happen over night, or the way the Lowes lived, I am sure they weren't holding a gun to her head to make her stay. So quit complaining, and go get yourself another job somewhere. It doesn't matter how her lawyer approached the agreement, and omni, you are way over your head with ideas, as you know as well as everyone else here, that when it comes to murder, that doesn't hold up anyway, quit trying to be so outlandish.

38. As if being a Hollywood's #1 Liberal ass-kisser wasn't enough to keep his career going. He WAS welcomed back to the fold years ago, after a scandal when he and a male "friend" videotaped themselves having sex with an underage girl.

All while attending the Democratic National Convention.
