Prez Pup Coming to Obama White House Tuesday

4/11/2009 10:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

ObamaWe have lots of exclusive details on the Portuguese Water Dog President Barack Obama and Michelle are getting for Sasha and Malia. The pooch will make its grand entrance on Tuesday, and it's coming from a prominent Texas kennel, with the help of Senator Ted Kennedy's family.

The black dog -- a male -- is approximately six months old. We've learned it was bred at the kennel and sold to someone who gave it back. The kennel is now "re-homing" the dog to the Obamas. The dog was named Charlie, but the Obamas will rename it.

Now here's where the Kennedys come into play. The kennel has sold the Kennedys three Portuguese Water Dogs in the past, all from the same lineage. The dog the Obamas will be getting is from the same lineage as the Kennedy dogs. The Kennedy family will be presenting the new dog to the Obamas, but it's really coming from the kennel.

The reason this all sounds so technical is that there are issues regarding gifts to the Prez. The fact that the pup is being re-homed makes it all kosher.

The dog pictured below (right) is the actual dog the Obamas will be getting, courtesy FirstDogCharlie.com.

#13, I imagine if we lived with an intelligence-lacking president the past 8 years who couldn't identify countries on a map, and couldn't speak on his own without Karl Rove's help (yes, even teleprompters couldn't even help Bush; he managed to screw even that up :) , I'm sure we're OK with Obama considering he's better educated.

Posted at 10:40PM on Apr 10th 2009 by Rick- How is Obama better educated than Bush? When did a teleprompter follow Bush around to every speech? Bush may have mangled a word, but he had a clear understanding of the subject matter, which is a lot more than can be said about the O ne B ig A rse M istake A merica

Hello, all dogs have a right to a good home. And all parents get to choose the kind of dog that their children want and need. Hypoallergenic dogs, like the one Malia needs, must be purebred. The breeder is being concientious in re-homing the dog, as are all responsible breeders. The puppy is receiving training prior to placement, also responsible. What is not responsible is getting an unknown dog with an unknown background that could bite your child. There are wonderful dogs in shelters and there are also dogs that are there because someone could not handle them. This is a free country what happened to personal choice. If your choice is to choose a shelter dog fine. But do not criticize anyone for making a different choice. By the way remember 9/11, if a building falls on you perhaps you would want a purebred dog bred for generations to do that to come and find you. Or if you have cancer you might want a Labrador to find it, as they are the best in world at cancer detection. And if you have allergies get a Portuguese Water Dog for your child!

I will never believe another word from the Obamas, typical campaign lies! Shelter dogs die everyday. It is immoral for him to get the dog from a breeder.

I read TMZ for the interesting stories, please no more Paris

He buys his dog from a puppy mill. Shows exactly how stupid and un-liberal the guy is. He just wants to be a Kennedy or someone famous. Did he bow to the puppy mill owner?

Getting a dog from a shelter is a wonderful thing - I have two shelter dogs myself. But, each family must consider what is right for them, even if they are being watched and analyzed/criticized every minute. I believe one of the Obama girls has a dog allergy, so not every breed will do. And, if the breed that works best is basically a problem-free breed, you will not find many in shelters. (If they had wanted a Siberian Husky, they probably would have had no problem finding one in a shelter.) As far as the name goes, this is probably one of the rare times you know the name of the dog you are getting, especially from a shelter. Any dog picked up as a stray, unless they had a name on their tag/collar, ends up with a new name once adopted. They adapt - they're not stupid and figure things out pretty quickly. The Obamas are under enough pressure - give them a break and let them enjoy their new pet, just like you probably enjoy yours.

so why didn't they set a real example and get a dog from a dog pound ???

and I really hate that sofa-looking dress Michelle wore in that photo. The rhinestones just really were the crowning crap on that thing. She looked over-done and as if she needed advice on clothing. Rhinestones were all the rage during Jackie Kennedy's day, but I don't think she wore them, or anything like THAT dress during daylight hours. It's like "look at me". And yeah I think Jackie will never be outdone. The other most hideous dress of Michelle's was that thing that was black and red-splattered {looked like she was a shotgun victim.....}, that she wore I guess it was the night of the Presidential win. It looked like some cheap crap , it was just very bad taste. Like someone threw a bottle of ketchup on her. What's wrong with her anyway ?

Obama could have found a hypoallergenic dog in a rescue.

IF, however, one believes that a shelter dog will not do for the Obama’s because Malia is allergic, THEN Obama SHOULD NOT have used the promise of rescuing a dog to obtain the vote of the humane community.

Obama has turned out to be a disappointment on so many levels.

Paying a breeder for a dog, so that breeder can continue to breed more dogs, IS NOT rescuing a dog.

So Much for Campaign Promises…

Jane Dillion - Christ! It is NONE of your business where the Obama family gets their dog. You very clearly choose to hate these people for their very existance, and to choose to spew such venom about their choice of where to get their children's first dog is absolutely disgusting. Shame on you!

People have every right to comment on where Obama gets his dog, because Obama used his promise to rescue a dog as a campaign promise to woo the humane community.

Obama pimped out his family’s first dog in the same way that he pimped out his kids on that ridiculous television special that he aired on several stations. Did I believe that Obama, who has been on the road campaigning for two years, reads the Harry Potter series to kids before bed? No. Did I believe that Obama would keep his campaign promise to rescue a dog? No, in fact I was sure that he would find some way to try to spin the fact that he would actually buy a dog.

All of this and more from a man who flinches when a cannon is fired. Obama is already making this country proud. At least Bush did not lie about where he got his dogs.
