Oprah Pulls Columbine Episode

Oprah WinfreyToday's episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" was supposed to mark the 10 year anniversary of the massacre at Columbine High School -- but not anymore.

Oprah just announced on her website she's decided to pull the episode: "I decided to pull the Columbine show today. After reviewing it, I thought it focused too much on the killers. Today, hold a thought for the Columbine community. This is a hard day for them."

Instead, Oprah will air an episode about a mother being released from prison.

16. Wonder why the anniversary of Columbine merits a whole show when the anniversary of the OKC bombing was yesterday and it was only mentioned on a few stations. We should never forget any of those we lost, no matter where.

17. I totally agree with Oprah's decision, we need to hear more about the survivors and less about that killers.

18. This is a horrible anniversary for all involved. To the idiot who said to 'get over it', obviously you are not playing with a full deck. I feel Oprah's decision was also a good one. Lets focus on the survivors, and what we can possibly do to prevent these types of tragedies, and not the cowardly, egotistical, killers.

20. The reason the OK bombing wasn't mentioned, was people forget. No matter what we say or how we feel about a devastating situation, time heals all wounds. The bombing was 14 years ago... in 4 more years you won;t hear much about Columbine either. I'm not being callous or mean I'm just stating a fact most people won't admit. 9/11 will take a lot longer to forget, but 20-30 years down the road, on it's anniversary people won't mention that much anymore either.

21. A very classy decision. We all know their names, we know what they did, we need to focus on the victims who were lost and the survivors.

22. Thank you! We wil not forget, but do we need to be reminded every few years about these tragic events... NO... and certainly do not need to give these two killers any more attention. I am sure their families were also devasted. I cannot imagaine a son of mine doing such a horendous crime. Thank you Oprah for pulling this show.

Wow, are you really someone's mom? So, if a bad thing happens in your family, it is better to let it be forgotten and not remembered, acknowleged, honored or discussed? This is why history is important, we need to remember what has happened and try to prevent it from happening again, and moreover, it is important for the news media to note these anniversaries in such a way as to honor the victims. I don't thinkk there is anything wrong with not naming the culprits in any incidence, since there seems to be boat loads of crazys out there looking to get their name in the papers.

Always remember never forget. Columbine, OKC, or 9/11, or the Holocaust, or slavery are not someting to be "gotten over!"

24. It's the right thing to do. Otherwise, copy cat wanna-be-physcos will see how much spotlight the killers get and will aspire to to the same thing they did to gain fame and notoriety.

25. Don't be so callous folks (you know who you are). I lived in this community ten years ago and still live here today. People have 'moved on' -- to the best of their ability. But let me share something with you: I drive by Columbine High School every day while taking my son to preschool and not a day goes by that I don't think about those 13 beautiful people that lost their lives to evil. Yes, it's no different from those who perished in Oklahoma City and we mourn for them as well. However, what happened at Columbine is still very much a part of the lives of us who love and live in this community and while we will 'move on'... we still grieve and still wish the world didn't hold such horrible people who cause such evil. All of this is our right. Don't tell people to get over it when you have no idea of the pain something like this caused. Thank you Oprah for making the decision to pull the show.

26. I am really disappointed the show was canceled. I was really looking foward to a show of the survivors and how they are overcoming this ordeal. A show of how to get through grief and hard times is really needed these days. I think a tasteful and respectful show of the survivors and a tribute of the 13 that parished could be done without giving the shooters any glory.

27. I'm surprised she pulled her head out of this one. This woman is all about what she cares about and nothing else. She is convinced we all watch her show to hear what she thinks and not her guests. She contradicts herself by promoting Dr Oz versus Paula Dean and blows her ass up on fattening greasy foods while talking about weight loss to the rest of us. I can't watch her anymore because she talks over the top of all her guests and her Friday shows SUCK. Someone else had to have convinced her to pull this. She will do anything for attention!

28. Well if she thought that about the show...why didn't she change the theme to be more about the families instead of the killers????

30. Kinda surprised the show was pulled. But then again, I was going to discuss this in class at the high school where I teach. Changed my mind. Decided that something that happened 10 years ago when my students were only 5 or 6 might not be a good topic for discussion. Should we forget? NO! Here's hoping the survivors are doing well and that this sort of tragedy doesn't happen again. We can only hope that we have all learned from this unthinkable act.
