Oprah Pulls Columbine Episode

Oprah WinfreyToday's episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" was supposed to mark the 10 year anniversary of the massacre at Columbine High School -- but not anymore.

Oprah just announced on her website she's decided to pull the episode: "I decided to pull the Columbine show today. After reviewing it, I thought it focused too much on the killers. Today, hold a thought for the Columbine community. This is a hard day for them."

Instead, Oprah will air an episode about a mother being released from prison.

31. Thank you Oprah..I too think it will be so much nicer for all those that might think of this tragedy today to offer prayers and condolences to the families of the victims and those in the community that were affected profoundly. I feel often times the focus is not in the best interests of those who must learn to cope and re-lioving this tragedy is not in the best interests of anyone. You are a Class Act, Oprah - thanks -

33. And she didn't realize his when she made the show? Bull! She got flack from someone and decided to cancel it. What she should have aired was a tribute to the 13 people who died that day - shame on you Oprah!

34. Mother knows best, Your comment proves my point. The holocaust, slavery, ect, those are things people do not think about daily anymore. Just like someone else said, we need reminders because those hurts at some point fade away. Not completely forgotten, but not in a daily, weekly, monthly thought anymore. Especially if your not directly involved in the situation. When was the last time you thought of Abe Lincoln or JFK? How many days has it been since you thought of the Thailand Tsunami from 2004. Or the major hurricanes over the past few years? My point is after time, when your not directly affected, your memories will waiver and you go on. They will not be in the forefront of your every move anymore.

Your an imbecile if you think I meant "forget" literally. Like you can zap your head of any memories and totally forget. People will need reminders of these things as time goes by.

35. HAS EVERYONE FORGOTTEN ??? Yesterday April 19 was the 14th anniversary of the OKLAHOMA BOMBING where many innocent children and FBI agents died. I dont see anyone posting any remembrance of it. REMEMBER OKLAHOMA it was a home-grown terrorist act.

37. This seems strange to me. I am a Columbine student and last i heard none of the administrators would talk to Oprah because no one liked the way she handled the issue the year it occured

38. I wonder if the recent news coverage of children being bullied to the point of suicide is also partly to blame. Since at the time it was reported that the Columbine killings were directly linked to two kids who felt bullied and picked on daily, they acted out against thier fellow students but many more suffer in silence everyday.. and end up taking their own life. Maybe if bullies were kept in check at schools these broken children wouldn't feel pushed to the point of murder or suicide. Or mabye that's exactly what the show was about and it's because of the anniversary someone raised a ruckus feeling like there might be some sympathy shed on the killers.

39. GOOD FOR YOU OPRAH! You're awesome lady! I think a show with the survivors would be more appropriate!

40. Oh and to comment # 8 that's completely untrue there are a lot of people still there that were there when it happened and a few of the new teachers this year were students when it happened. I understand your sentiment and i Feel people pay too much attention to it but please do not be rude about it. Some people will never get over it so you will just have to let it go

41. If Oprah has any sense she will do the same with the show featuring the parents of accused baby-killer Casey Anthony.

Oprah just doesn't have what it takes to interview people like them - and my guess is that that's exactly what the Anthony's are counting on.

42. That's interesting, I wonder if she wished she had a 'do over?"

Interesting decision, and good for her.

43. I HATE that she pulled this. It was meant to give people insight so that we may look for warning signs in the people around us, which I think is really important. I don't like when people say "forget it" and "move on." If we don't study and understand history and what lead to tragic events, they will be repeated when they could have been prevented...

44. I HATE that she pulled this episode. It was meant to give insight and help us to recognize warning signs of potentially dangerous people around us. I don't like when people say "forget it" and "move on." Without studying and understanding history and what leads to tragic events, they will continually be repeated when they could have been prevented.

45. Columbine, Oklahamo City, Pearl Harbor and the Alamo were a LONG time ago. This stupid country clings to every dramatic episode like a bad Mexican soap opera. Move on people.
