Howard Stern Exposes a Screeching Beyonce

If you've ever wondered what a cat sounds like when it's being strangled, then you're gonna love the supposed raw, unedited, "board mix" of Beyonce Knowles from her "Today Show" performance last year -- courtesy of Howard Stern.

The King of All Media ran the supposedly leaked audio clip on his Sirius radio show yesterday.

Talk about something "fierce"...

229. I'm a studio engineer and have done production and live sound. I don't know if Beyonce "really can sing," I have no dog in that fight. But I've worked with singers who really CAN sing their *sses off, and some that only THINK they can.
So this was a live TV shoot in the middle of a city plaza ? You can't imagine what a nightmare that is. A TV producer is not going to be springing for a full outdoor staging with pro monitor mixer and sound reinforcement tuned to fight the feedback, traffic noise, AND reverb, if they can get away with singing-to-tape. Pure economics. I have NO DOUBT that she did NOT have proper montior sound, and if you done any singing on stage, you know that when your backing music is loud and drenched in reverb and can't really hear your own voice, your pitch is going to SUCK.
Yeah, she hits some stinkers. Really, really rotten pitchy notes. They stick out terribly, and Autotune cannot fix notes that aren't at least CLOSE. But all things considered the rest of the notes sound fine - her vibrato and projection and phrasing aren't amateur quality - she's hitting 3 octaves - and most of the pitches are good. It's highly unethical for the mixer to solo-record her voice and then release it, and the network would be well within their rights to fire him or blackball him or his organization if he's a contractor.
