35. I ask myself: 'What would I do in such a situation ? ' There is no easy answer. A divorce creates a lot of stress, does she need that stress now ? She has to think of the children. BTW it was probably a mistake for them to have the two younger children, they were no longer spring chickens. I feel bad for Elizabeth but suspect she is a very strong woman, even with cancer. As for Mr. Edwards, I feel sympathy for him too. He had to go through an awful public humiliation, his political carreer is down the drain. I understand he is ashamed to go out of his house, with reason. What a miserable mess ! Was it worth it, NO ! I feel anger towards the other woman, she knew J.E. was a married man, his wife possibly terminally ill, couldn't she at least ask him to wait, she is seriously to blame. But I agree with the comments that said we shouldn't be concerned with this situation, Mr and Mrs Edwards are adults and they know what they have to do.

36. No doubt that she has been through a lot. But I am appalled that she stood by him and said nothing when he ran for President. She should have given him an ultimatum then of dropping out, or she would go public with what she knew. She was complicit in his lies to the American public.

Elizabeth deserves Edwards. They are both hollier-than-thou liars. Never met a better planner than John Edwards. The "father of the year" started a new family while his current wife is still alive and hitting the campaign trail for him. Boy, if that's not good planning, I don't know what is.

You can't stop this; find a way to deal with it. It's only when the public finds out that wives feel they have to do something. Jackie Kennedy knew all the time about Jack. She counseled Ted's wife to forget it; "All the Kennedy men are like that," and she went on to enjoy the lifestyle. Probably her European background. Poor Joan almost drove herself crazy over Teddy and lost out. Look where Hillary is today after sticking with Bill.

You listed a bunch of Repubs, but what about Bill Clinton getting BJ's by an intern in the Oval Office, or Ted Kennedy driving drunk off of a bridge while partying with someone other than his wife (yeah, she drowned, by the way, as he swam away). Cheating and disgusting behavior happens across the board with politicians.

To the person that said we all make mistakes... Although I believe Elizabeth Edwards kept him around for the kids and b/c she is terminally ill....I don't know about most of you, but if my husband made that "mistake", his suitcases would be at the curb when he came home and his cell phone would be ringing with a call from my lawyer.

42. Did "over it" really say that the Edwards affair was "swept under the rug??" Not quite - it was headline news for quite awhile. I hear the republicans are thinking about Newt for Pres in 2012. Will the right be able to vote for a man who, not only cheated on TWO wives and admitted to having an affair on his 2nd wife while pummeling Bill Clinton in the Lewinsky mess, but also INITIATED the two divorces from the wives he was cheating on! And, Ironically, his first wife was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery when he came in to discuss the divorce!! The Edwards and the Clintons, for good or bad, kept their marriages together, which, under God;s law means "til death do us part." For Newtie it was, until the next mistress/wife comes along. Can the conservatives really vote for such a man? The Democrats never would.
Not condoning what Edwards did, and neither are alot of Democrats. He is toast as far as any future political career. And he is ashamed and hides in his house, as he should. But Fox News seems to LOVE Newtie and the right wants him to run in 2012...just who ARE the hypocrites??
