Dom DeLuise Dies

We've just learned that Dom DeLuise -- who starred in such classics as "The Cannonball Run" and "Blazing Saddles" and was the voice of Pizza the Hutt in "Spaceballs" -- died last night in a Los Angeles hospital.

We're told he passed away peacefully in his sleep at around 6 PM.

He was 75.

His family just released this statement: "It's easy to mourn his death, but easier to remember a time when he made you laugh."

61. Dom Deluise was on Spaceballs. Not "in person" but he voiced the character of "Pizza the Hut". Maybe people should do better research first on IMDB instead of insulting the TMZ folks.

62. I loved Dom...saw an interview once with Burt Renyolds stating how "childlike" he was. How even if you did the same thing over and over to him as a joke, he'd still laugh and be surprised every time. He was awesome! My condolences to his boys and wife.

67. I don't remember seeing him in Blazing Saddles. What role did he play? But he was great as Ceasar in History of the World Part 1. During a Los Angeles bus strike 30 years ago, he gave me a ride and he was extremely nice. He didn't even try to molest me. Yeah, I know he was married and had kids, but he was also bi-sexual. He was one of my favorite comedians and I will miss him.

71. Aww, he was so funny. I too remember his appearances with Johnny. And of course with Burt and they always seemed like such good friends. RIP Dom and be sure you divide your time in heaven between being a chef and comic, and let George pass around the cigars afterwards.

72. I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Dom and his wife while Carol was working on a play I was as assistant for. He came to hekp out and took the cast and crew to dinner. He grabbed the light over the tabel, threw water in the air and shouted, "Man overboard, Man overboard!" Man, he was funny. Also, he was a stand-up guy. Another time we all went out was to a bar and grill. I was only 18 at the time and they wouldn't let me in. He made a huge stink and fuss about it and they finally let me in with the rest of the group. Dom-you'll be missed. He was truely a class act.
