Carrie Prejean -- The Origin of Homophobia

Carrie PrejeanSo how does a beauty queen turn into the poster child against gay marriage? In the case of Miss California Carrie Prejean, the answer may lie in an ugly divorce that may have cemented her views on gay relationships.

Carrie's parents filed for divorce in 1988 and the divorce and custody fights went on for more than a decade -- it was a divorce filled with homosexual allegations hurled by both sides.

In one of the docs, Carrie's dad describes a confrontation he had with her mom in 1996, in which he recounts an argument in a restaurant parking lot, where "Ms. Prejean accused me, in front of our daughter, of homosexuality."

The papers also quote a court-appointed doctor who said "The mother questioned [within hearing of the girls] whether [her father] was a homosexual or had a homosexual roommate."

Carrie's mom says the "gay" allegations went both ways. In court papers dated May 16, 2000, a report from the court-appointed counselor says "The mother also alleges the father told the girls their stepfather was gay, that all men with mustaches are gay." The father's response: "The father acknowledges talking with the girls about the stepfather's brother being gay, not the stepfather."

Launch PhotosAlso in the docs -- a handwritten letter from Carrie's older sister, in which she recounts a weekend stay with her dad: "One time my sister & I went in the hallway of my dad's apartment, & his roommate's door was open all the way & we saw [the roommate] in bed with another man. I don't think it's right for my sister & I to have to live that way."

So does Carrie believe gays broke up her parents' marriage? We called her rep ... no comment so far. We could not reach Carrie's dad for comment.

For the record, there are other allegations -- absolutely hideous -- in the divorce and custody papers -- which we have elected not to publish.

46. Once again, why should Obama or any other politician have "power" to tell us who can and cannot get married? Leave this to the states or localities and use the lower judicial system to oversee equitable partnerships, not the legislative or executive.

If you don't know what that means....you are dumber than I thought, good luck with that.

48. Why not comments on the actual content of this story? It was about homophobic remarks made by family members.

Why don't people care that they can't spell correctly? Judging by the spelling on this board, no wonder our economy is in the toilet. The country is populated by dolts!

49. So why then is Obama a homophobe? He is also against gay marriage.

Harvey and Mario Lavandeira, miserably failed actor turned gossip monger, are only willing to call out those that won't crush them.
Let's see a piece on why Obama is a homophobe.

Or are those testes tied a little too tight to step into deeper water?

Heterophobes are vicious and classless animals.

50. I think it is amazing how everyone is attacking this woman for simply stating that she believes in what is already the law in her home state of California.

51. Hey #46,
Did you mean FUBAR?

52. Wow, so Freedom of Speech and people having opinions are only allowed if they are the same opinions of the TMZ staff ? Sad. TMZ REALLY needs to stop putting their OPINIONS as facts, and trying to trash people just because they have diffferent ideas. Maybe you guys should look up the definition of Homophobe, because you either have no idea what it means, or you just want to slander this woman for not being in lockstep with you.

54. This is nothing more than a smear campaign. This is waaaaay below the belt, TMZ.

This girl is being bullied and run out of California simply for saying that she was raised to believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman (which is what the majority of Californians also happen to believe). Ridiculous.

No, she means FUBO, my screen name. She suggested we "Americans" should "give our heads a shake". I asked her what the hell that meant.
I still don't know, do you?

56. This young woman, who was AMBUSHED with a politically charged question by a person with an obvious
agenda is being demonized for an answered that is in NO WAY homophobic. In fact her answer revealed that although she respects homosexuals she does not agree with redefining marriage. Is she in favor of civil unions or any other sort of arrangement that would grant equal legal rights to homosexual couples...........who knows????............... because the question was a few seconds sound bite for which Hilton has received much attention at the cost of a young girl who has not been groomed for a political career (aka: she has not been schooled in how to speak from both sides of her mouth like our blusterous politicians)

Additionally, why is the woman being demonized while Hilton, who is known for "outing" homosexuals before they are ready to tell the world about their sexual preference, being treated like an innocent sheep. Having had many friends who are homosexual, I feel with certainty that being publicly "outed" before a person is ready to take this step is very damaging.

In closing, as many homosexuals do not decide to announce their preference until later in life if at all, why is this young woman being verbally ravaged in regard to her opinion in regard to redefining marriage? It doesn't make any sense when many in the homosexual "community" keep their opinions and lifestyle secret until later in life if not forever.

Viciously attacking this young lady, digging up "dirt," questioning her values and religious beliefs (people of faith are not perfect and should not be held to an infallible standard) because of a couple of photo's (which were dug up to merely to hurt her) doesn't help the "gay rights" cause. It may embolden the faithful but for those who see everyone as equal anyway with no particular agenda in that regard, the cruel attacks on this young lady take away sympathies for the gay community who now instead of appearing to be in some instances victims of society, now, in this instance appear to be victimizers.

58. I understand Prejean is from the religious POV, but let's cut to the real chase here, from a socio-political POV, and we will find an activist minority group that seeks special civil rights based on their sexuality. For example, hate crime: Is it worse to murder someone who is homosexual than it is to murder a child? According to the law it is-Children do not get any special assessments in this realm.
Everyone here can agree it is right to be a nice and polite to most anyone we meet, until they start waving the flag of entitlement, of I'm "different" and should be considered special.
I don't hate anybody, but I do hate it when some loud mouth compares his or her homosexual status to being black in the 50's. That is ridicuous, homosexuality is not a physically differenciating characteristic. I'm just over the kid gloves and special treatment, if you want to live as you please, be accountable to others as the rest of us have to be. And many, many, many homosexuals are accountable to the rest of society, without being activists-PEREZ HILTON!

60. I often wonder, what happens after gay marriage is fully legal everywhere? Won't the Polygamists be next to demand their rights? Followed shortly by the "back-woods" folks who demand to be able to marry their sister? Or even more sick, their goat? Where does it end?
