UPDATE 5:32 PM ET : Kiefer Sutherland has been officially charged with misdemeanor assault in a late night altercation at a Manhattan nightclub.

UPDATE: We've learned Kiefer was NOT arrested. He received a desk appearance ticket. He's inside the PD getting it right now with his attorney, Blair Berk.

Kiefer Sutherland has left his apartment in Manhattan and, a source says, he is headed to the 1st Precinct to turn himself in.

21. Kiefer is an alcoholic struggling with sobriety. He has a very long history of angry and violent behavior fueled by booze. As a result, his "perception" of what went down is completely unreliable.
I hope he can get it together.

29. I'm in 100% agreement with #21. If keefer is in denial while sober, that his drinking problem will only escalate into something more dangerous for himself or others, then all of those on his payroll support his addiction. Too bad for someone who is as talented as Robert Downey Jr., yet RDJ realizes the negative results from his past addictions and behavior. Acceptance to ones addition, while clear headed and making the needed changes on a permanent basis, is the one and only place to start. Perhaps another stint in jail will finally get the message across.

30. No good deed goes unpunished. Poor Kiefer thought he was being a gentleman & coming to the defense of that crazy Brooke Shields. Wonder what her initial reaction was when the guy bumped into her. I'm sure he just responded to her responce. I am with Keifer here. Apologize to the guy for the mis-understanding & move on.
