Manson Gang Hideout -- The Smoldering Remains

TMZ has obtained a photo of Charles Manson's Death Valley hideout after a mysterious fire gutted the infamous building earlier this week.

Charles Manson

The fire completely gutted the inside of the structure known as Barker Ranch -- officials are unclear if it was set intentionally. An investigation is under way.

Back in '69, Manson and his gang of murderers retreated to the cabin after slaughtering Sharon Tate and seven others. Manson was arrested at the cabin -- and the structure has since become a tourist attraction.

Officials tell us they're already getting offers from groups who want to rebuild it.

19. The fact this place was still standing and people were paying to see it is sick. It should be totally removed and destroyed. Anyone benefiting off the death or loss of another persons life is totally disgusting. Many people died at the hands of Mason and his followers. He didn't have to physically do it himself, he ordered it to be done and brainwashed his followers to commit the crimes they did. He should of been put to death just like the rest of his gang.

21. I recently saw show on the Barker ranch. Some forensic investigators got a permit to dig for possible remains of members fo the Manson family. The people who own the ranch don't let people go there. They did everything they could to make these people go away but a judge allowed it. After their daylong alotment of time to dig, it was called off and they had to leave. I imagine lots of people are happy this is up in flames now. Let it go....and let those poor souls rest in peace.

Re Wiki:
In early 2008, after decades of persistent rumors of additional Manson family murder victims, forensic investigators performed testing at the ranch for possible buried human remains. Using state of the art technology not available 40 years ago, investigators located several sites consistent with possible clandestine graves. In May 2008, investigators conducted a “dig” at the sites; however, further searching by authorities was called off due to finding no evidence or victim remains during the search.

23. drew - spahn's movie ranch and Barker ranch are 2 different places. Barker ranch is very remote in the desert. Spahn movie ranch was a movie set location that I think, was in LA.

24. Sure it has historical value, just like the Jack the Ripper Tour in London has historical value. As a society, we're fascinated with killers.

But to rebuild it for the sake of rebuilding it as the place where Charles Manson and his crazy b****es hid out just goes to show that his brainwashing still continues to affect the general public. Don't treat it as a memorial to his evil actions. Leave the place as it is, and let time and nature take its toll on it.

25. It is my understanding that the Barker Ranch was quite remote, but people visited and squatted there regularly. Someone probably burned it down by accident.

26. I doubt it had any historical value. It was a rotting out old place and nobody has lived there since before Manson was squatting there. I think people still went out there to squat and visit. But, it was a dump and probably would have been condemned if it weren't in the middle of nowhere.

27. It is very difficult to get to, so someone probably did not go out there to burn it down. It was probably a squatter or someone who started it by accident.

28. uh, WRONG..... people live under free will, ultimately it's up to the individuals to make the decisions for themselves, not the person telling them to..... but none the less, the crimes are a part of history, and the reasoning, and the psychology behind it is fascinating, always will be...

29. To Drew: Spahn Ranch is in Chattsworth, CA and the Barker Ranch is located in Death Valley. Manson lived in Spahn ranch BEFORE moving to the Barker Ranch. But the family did reside in both locations for various lengths of time.

30. Spahn Ranch was in Chatsworth, in the Santa Susana Pass.
I went up there after the murders, and went horse back riding up there.

The Manson Gang had long left or were already in jail.

... but there were still some rough looking guys up there hanging out. We offered them hashish in lieu of renting the horses but they wanted the money.
