61. If this was a "Bush" presidency press meeting, I'd lay my last buck that you all would be supporting the reporter.........bitching about his freedom was being violated. But don't worry, Obamanation is going to get rid of that nasty "F" word real soon.

63. That would be the day when I give up my property for a ? (you name it..jerk, joke, trash, zero or .......) like Gibbs. Real close to "taking my gun from my cold dead hands" you know. Of course, obama seems to have the arrogant feeling that is REALLY is that god (small case) that some of his tax cheating followers think he is. Free speech should and must reign. I realize that is was poor manners, but Helen Thomas and the rest of the liberal press corp has had zero manners for the previous 8 years so why start now?

64. Gibbs is such a putz. President Obama needs to find a new "face" and "voice" for his administration. Gibbs is making a dismal presidency look even worse.

65. Good for Gibbs. That's so direspectful to Gibbs.
He could have put his phone on "silence". I do that all the time when I go into business meetings. As a matter of fact we are told to put the phone on "silence" or "vibrate".

66. this is not about freedom of speech people. This is about respect: respect for yourself and the people around you. Your cellphone shouldn't be ringing that loud at a press conference; that's disrespectful. If you don't want to shut it off completely, put it on vibrate.
... The dude holding the conference is pretty ridiculous too for asking for the phones... this isn't freaking highschool. He shoulda simply told them to leave the room

67. the first one was funny when he took the guys phone (think teacher in a classroom, you know for the very few people on here who have been to school), but the guy who talked, he was just being an ass, and I don't think he should be invited back to the WH for press conferences. What a dolt.

68. All you 'tards whining about "wah wah what about free speech?" better go brush up on your Constitution. "Free Speech" doesn't mean, "I get to talk on my cell phone at a White House Press Conference if I wanna." This is an example of rudeness - I wouldn't expect adults to talk on their cell phones in a nice restaurant, let alone at a freaking WHITE HOUSE PRESS CONFERENCE. WTF were they thinking?!?!

69. Not about free speech, for you idiots claiming that --- it's about COURTESY. You don't let your cell phone ring in movie theaters, in exam rooms with the doctor, in class, while attending a speech (be it at the White House or a graduation ceremony), while dining in a very expensive restaurant, at plays, etc.

Those of you who see nothing wrong with that are self-involved, rude, ghetto-techno trash.

I work for a doctor -- a fat 25 year old girl this week let her phone ring FIVE times while the doctor was trying to examine her -- each time, she ANSWERED it, and had short non-urgent conversations. The fifth phone call, the doctor asked her to turn it off, and she got all defensive with the explanation that it wasn't her fault -- these people were calling HER, she wasn't calling THEM. Rude AND a low IQ!

Good for that press secretary -- he was very nice about that rudeness!

70. I agree, good riddance. I'm surprised they don't turn on a cellphone jammer or something for these events when important people are speaking, can pick one up online for like $50.
